Why the changes to Regal Princess

Recommended Posts

So they can fit more people on board and make more money. Also perhaps to follow suit of the family orientated cruising experience they were marketing a little while ago.

Could also be just to bring her more in line with what we have had in the past and what most of us would be used to i think.

Casino is moved from 'Dome' to 'Stage Door lounge' so pax have to walk throughh the casino, to and from the Dining room and showlounge, to get you to put $ in the pokies.

Plus with the pax limits increased from 1590 on RP to 2050 on PD..they need a larger lounge/dance area for the masses.

You won't have to walk past the casino to get to the dining room - Casino will be on Dolphin deck and the dining room is on Promenade deck.

I've seen a few comments that moving the casino was a good idea.

I think The Dome is going to be a bit like Horizon Lounge on Pacific Sky.

It'll be interesting to see how much Pacific Dawn feels like Pacific Sky - since they were originally designed for the same company, Sitmar.

Sorry my mistake..stage door/casino will be on deck 8. Dining room plus Bengal and Addadigo lounges on deck 7. But still casino will be more accessible to the masses. Damn shame pulling out the Princess theatre, great place it was.

When we disembarked RP on 2/10..cranes on dockside appeared to be about to pull pools out, we were told the 6 foot deep pools were going to be replaced with shallow end pools for the tin lids.

Stll a lot of ads in paper for PD cruises, also they are offering PD cruises to those in the travel industry for $50 a day !!

Cheers.

Yes I agree about the theatre, shame that's going. It looked nice in the photos I've seen of it on the net.

I hope they leave one of the pools 6 feet deep! At 6 ft 3 or thereabouts it's good to have a pool with a decent depth, otherwise it feels like you're just in a really wide bath!

So apart from the cosmetic things, (I wonder if they'll add the Australian bird murals in the corridors like they did on Star) it's the moving of the casino, the changing of the pools, getting rid of the theatre, and the installation of the CCTV cameras that are the main jobs, I guess..

My son is a tour operator/travel company owner in Peru..check his site out ..chimuadventures.com (He has nothing to do with cruising so hope I don't get into strife for mentioning him, oh dear.)

Wonder what he can do for me with P&O ?

Yes the PD CCTV cameras every where..big brother will be watching AND security officers vamped up from 8 on RP to 25 on PD, I reckon they will need them too, different clientle to what RP carried...eldery yanks to younger Aussies. More beer more problems, more kids more noise.

Cheers.

Well said there NSWP ...starting to put me off already ..lol  ...it's a fact though the bigger there are ..the bigger the problems ..

The ship is much bigger, but even when it's sailing full, there'll only be around 100 more people on Pacifc Dawn than on Pacific Sun at full capacity.

I also heard today that the Showroom ..will be changed somewhat ..with a bigger stage area .and more lighting put in ...looked nice the way it was ..when I was on board a few weeks back:) Maybe there updating it ?

Maybe they're going to put a 'real' stage in? Perhaps some lovely new seats, and put real seats at the front, rather than those chairs and tables. Apparently it got quite annoying for the people who had to sit behind them.

I hope that they add a splash of colour to her. The Regal was looking a bit on the dull side, so a few bright colours would go a long way to brighten the ship up. Well hopefully not as bright as NCL!!:p

We are looking forward to enjoying our morning coffee in the Dome. We think it will be a great area! And opening it up to families makes sense to me!!

Cheers,

Charmain:)

Just remember to get there early!!;) I remember how popular the Observation lounge was on the Infinity in Alaska. You'd swear they'd slept there the night!!:p

I totally agree with that. I am looking forward to spending some time in the Dome. I wouldn't have stepped inside it if it was a casino.

It is interesting to note the differences in American and Australian cruisers.

I'm with you Jenny. I am soooo looking forwrad to the dome. I think having a casino on there was a watse of good space. But...that's just my opinion.

Definately a setting thing. I can see Jarrods pic in his message and Kyms reply. Would be curious to know, as a few people have trouble seeing pasted webshots pics here, but I see OK.

Don't know if it is a windows security - firewall issue, or webshots or CC.

Cheers

Geoff

We've been on the Regal three times (44 days) and the casino was really, really dead. It was a destination, but a "what the heck" thing when you'd venture near it. The dealers (who work for tips mostly) hated it.

I agree that the casinos on most ships are really dead early in the evening. Right after the last show they tend to liven up.

Firstly, I have heard that yes the casino will be moving to Dolphin Deck, so that more passengers, especially family groups, can enjoy the fabulous Dome.

In evenings, the Dome will turn into a nightclub.

Regal Princess only recently had quite a big renovation, but now they will do mainly cosmetic and a couple of improvements.

P&O only has 29 days as of today, until Pacific Dawn sails out of Sydney!
