My mother has booked at RCI cruise, as you can see below I've only cruised Carnival.. and love the line. When I go onto RCI boards all I see is them talking badly about Carnival. [carnival this.. carnival that!]

Also, the people posting are often very rude.. and not very helpful!

Oh how I miss the good ol' days..

when I was posting on Carnival boards, because I had a cruise booked

with them.

I know what you mean. I always see comments from RCI cheerleaders who say things like, "I never have been on a Carnival cruise, thank goodness, because I know I wouldnt like it."

How could they know they wouldnt like something based on a message board?

Are these folks for real? I guess you dont have to have brains to post, and it makes them feel special to think RCI is high class. They might need that in their lives, to think they have lots of class because they can put down Carnival without ever trying it out.

I cruise both lines and dont understand them feeling all uppidty.

Don't rely on the posters of cc to be your typical cruise passengers whether it is the RCCL board or Carnival board. These posters just make up a very small percentage of total cruisers. Half the stuff I read on here is not our typical cruise experience. I am willing to bet you will love your upcoming cruise no matter what cruise line!

Have a great time!

All of them criticize Carnival.. how tacky it is and what not.

Carnival just lets loose and has fun. There is nothing wrong with that and what does RCI cruisers have to say about that... Carnial is just not high class!?! RCI is having a problem with not keeping up with their older ships.. having having issues of sewer smells coming from their ships.

What do they have to say about that??

I know I will enjoy my RCI cruise.. but the ppl. who post on those boards just frustrate me!

Just go over there and research your cruise and ship. Don't think they would have a problem with that;)

Many people that have never cruised another line defend the one line they have cruised with. Hate to tell you, it happens on the Carnival board alot. Many people consider Carnival the "walmart" of cruising. Have they cruised Carnival? Most likely not. It is fun to try other lines. :D :D

Yes, it happens on the Carnival boards too but I think the worst bashers of Carnival are the loyal RC passengers. I was just over on the HAL board and someone was asking about whether or not to go on a Carnival cruise. Alot of the posters over there said they didn't like Carnival and they had sailed with them, but the way they said that they didn't like it was much more tactful than the way they say it over on the RC board. Also a lot of the posters on HAL said that while the experience isn't the same as HAL, that they did have a great time on a Carnival ship.

I am a Past Guest with Carnival 14 times(#15 coming up), with RCCL 15 times and then multi times with Celebrity and NCL plus a few on others. I post all over the place when sailing with a certain line. I really think you have people that are cheer leaders for all the different lines and then, you have peole like me that love to cruise and go where friends and family want to cruise. I think you make your cruise experience for the most part. You can focus on all the good times or on that little carpet tear in the hall way 2 deck down and around the croner from your cabin. Know what I mean? Just take all the posts with a grain of salt. Go on your cruise with your family/friends and have a wonderful time. Let us all know when you return. I for one would enjoy reading your review.

Think of it as market research.

After you have come back from your RCCL cruise, you can say "Well, I have cruised both and......."

Remember, it is not what "others" think of us that matters...it is only what we truly are that matters ....and that is wonderful!!!

The Walmart phrase came from a popular cruise book, written by a very famous travel editor, Frommers. I think what they were trying to get across was that Carnival offered something for everyone when it comes to cruising, much the same as Wally's World does when it comes to the community. But people have taken it out of context, like they seem to do many other things in the world of print.

I haven't been on a newer RCI ship. Then again, I haven't yet been on a newer Carnival ship, either.

I loved my RCI cruise and would love to sail them again, but I'm on a budget and I don't believe there's enough difference to justify the additional cost.

I'm all about the ports. I don't give a rat's behind if there's an ice skating rink or a rock climbing wall or somewhere to surf!

So why should I pay extra for a ship that has those things. Personally, I think HAL would be a good choice for me because I'm not all that into late-night partying. I have a drink or two during the day, wine with dinner, and a drink or two in the casino or at a show.

But as long as I'm cruising with DD, who is much more into late-night paryting, and as long as I'm paying for two people, we'll stick with Carnival.

I think the two lines are so similar that the RCI loyalists just need to beat down Carnival to justify to themselves that they're spending more money for basically the same product.

Whatever. That's their prerogative. There's no need to bash either, though. Both provide good value for money. And if seeing an ice show makes your cruise, then go for it.

There are plenty of cruising options for everyone. There's just no need to be all snobbish about it either way.

We have also sailed with RCCL before and trust me it was not near as pleasurable as a CARNIVAL cruise. Wonder why RCCL only sails out of Galveston a few months out of the year?. Could it be that they just can't compete???

I have sailed both, and enjoy both lines. I actuall feel that the lines are more alike then different. The one thing I always remind friends/families is that to compare the two fairly you have to compare like size/age/itineraies/length ships/cruises. It is not a fair to compare the Holday and the Voyager of the Seas. Nor can you judge a 3 night cruise to the Bahamas to a seven night exotic western caribbean. Heck even within the same cruiseline, these things can lead to a different experience.

By the way, I love carnival "tacky", it is fun. I love trying a new carnival ship and seeing what the decor is like, every theme bar, etc. I love Royal Caribbean, but they have alot of the same decor on their ships (for example the schooner bar).

To me, everyone has different tastes, that doesn't make one person right and one wrong, it just keeps it more interesting.

sshhh.....we are cruising RCCL over Thanksgiving (Voyager class won out over the chocolate melting cake, but it was close!)

The best way to handle this is to cruise different lines - then you will have a better perspective. You may find Carnival is better in some areas and not so good in others. Only you can decide.

There are some benefits in being loyal, such as the perks for the frequent cruisers. However, I think the better choices afforded by the many lines greatly outweigh any perks from being loyal to one.

Think about it: Carnival goes to lots of places and has lots of ships, but eventually you will have been there before, and you may want to try something different.

We have sailed both. DH likes Carnival a little better, I like them the same for different reasons. I have to agree though, we have a cruise booked on both lines right now, so I frequent both threads. The RC boards are downright nasty and mean sometimes. Seems Carnival goers are more fair when it comes to comparing the two lines. Amazes me how many on RC say I've never been on a Carnival cruise but,,,,,,

Our last cruise on the AOS we were at a dinner table for 10 and when my DH and I said our best cruise to date was the Carnival Liberty you should have heard the groans at the table. But not one tablemate had been on Carnival. Good thing they didn't hold it against us for the rest of the week.:D

We love both lines and I look forward to even trying Princess, and a few others in years to come!!!!

...and it is a required application to most of the wise decisions humankind makes.

We have cruised Carnival, Princess, NCL and will cruise Carnival again in Europe next year. We have not had a bad cruise on any of these lines...and don't expect to in the future. We have had some things that we would have liked to have been different on all three....we have had a couple of bad meals on all three....the beds on two of them were not as comfortable as we would have liked....and on and on and on! None of it made one line better than the other!!

Carnival was our first cruise experience and is the reaosn we are hooked on cruising! Princess took us to Panama in a way no ther line offered. NCL was the perfect cruise line for Alaska...very laid back...all kinds of options.

When we looked at Europe we looked at five different cruise lines based upon the criteria we had set for ourselves to enjoy Europe. Carnival beat out the others...better itinerary...better price...better length of cruise! We took it! Had Princess or HAL or NCL or the others we looked at met our criteria...we would have booked them in a heartbeat.

Some folks have to be seen in their own minds as being better in all things than others. We all know them...we all meet them everyday. Unfortunately they can't keep their own minds to themselves!! I find that this is the first indication that thre is a lack of intelligence to one degree or another going on in the decision making department!!

If I found a cruise line that met all of my needs and desires for every cruise I took I'd stay with it too. But that would be the reason...not that it is better than every other cruise line!!!

Cruising is fun...it is fun because you plan carefully....you have your expectations in check....you are prepared to listen to the intelligent assessment of others about ships and cruise lines and ports and the hundred other things that make every cruise fun.

Just the way we look at it!:)

I choose Carnival because it is a) affordable for me, b) the ship has what I want, and c)the ports are where I want to go. I may not be rich, or be able to cruise more than once a year after 2010 (I have money set aside for two cruises a year until Jan/Feb 2010). I will make my choice on the factors I mentioned above. I have heard the good, bad, and ugly about RCI, but I also hear it about Carnival, Celebrity, Princess, and other cruise lines, so needless to say, it happens to each line and the only opinion that matters is your own.

I got off the the Triumph Spet 22 and was talking with one lady who was on the same ship as I was and her opinion of the cruise was total opposite of mine. She said the ship was dirty, it smelled, and the service was awful. Now, I don't know where she got that impression from because everywhere I went I saw cleaning underway (in fact they closed off parts of the Lido deck to do a thorough scrubbing of the deck); the only "bad" smell I got was of the strong disinfectant in the public bathrooms in two locations on the ship); and as for service, I found the service to be exceptionally amazing.

I do know that I probably will not cruise on RCI because of the following factors:

--The ships are getting too big--Conquest class size ship is probably the right size of ship--110000 GRT

--I 'm not into ice skaing, rock climbing, or surfing. Many of you know that is what RCI is getting to be known for

--An indoor promenade mall doesn't attract me. I have enough malls at home I don't need one on the ship--a logo shop, jewellery store, and a formalities type shop will do

--I don't want to have to pay for "extras" like Ben and Jerry's ice cream, or a burger at Johnny Rockets, or dinner (like on NCL freestyle type cruising). A supper club is the exception

--I don't want to pay more when I can get an awesome vacation that will leave me with happy memeories for less!

--Being papmpered is nice, but being spoiled rotten makes it worse when you get home!

RCI, NCL, Celebrity, etc are all competitors in the tough cruise travel business, needless to say, talking down about your competitors is common and if you ask if anyone has been on another cruise line, I doubt they would answer truthfully.....

I am not loyal to any line....I'm still a newbie cruiser. I like variety in my life and the next lines I plan to try are HAL and Royal Caribbean. Since I have been going on the RC and HAL boards on here I have been leaning towards HAL more. The reason being is that I find the HAL cruisers much more courteous and tactful when they compare their lines to Carnival. Both are different products and I'm sure each line has good and bad in different things, but the RC loyalists really rip into Carnival....calling the people that sail Carnival low class, drunks, etc. While a lot of the HAL cruisers don't like Carnival, the way they say it it's just more tactful. It's not what you say, but how you say it. I am actually afraid to go on a RC ship because if I befriend a really loyal RC cruiser, and they find out that I like Carnival, they might rip into me. I don't want to be friends with anyone like that.

I think you will enjoy HAL Sandi. It's a shame they are not replacing the noordam out of ny. You should try HAL. Princess too.

We like nearly all the lines. For us, it comes down to what port we want to sail out of, where we want to go and if the kids are going with us.

We are even thinking of trying ncl again. And we never thought we would, but it's so nice to be able to sail from ny that we just might book on one of their ships.

Come on now, not all of us on the RCI board criticize Carnival. My first cruise was on Carnival and I really enjoyed it.

We sailed on the Monarch (one of their older ships) we had the horrible sewer smell during the first cruise, however it was gone during our second cruise - thank goodness :D
