Qtypie617 Posted October 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2007 Going on the Mariner this Sunday and wanted to know if they had the Dueling Pianos. Went on the Sovereign in March and it was a fantastic show to watch! Thanks.
jillybabes Posted October 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2007 No, Mariner never had the dueling pianos...They are no longer on any of the Royal Caribbean ships as this was a cost cutting decision...Later, Jill:cool:
PH8 Posted October 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2007 :( :( Sad,but true...........no more dueling pianos anywhere on any RCCL ship..:( :(
cb at sea Posted October 25, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2007 We had a piano player who did some "sing-a-longs" and "name that tune" sort of thing. Guy could really play well, but didn't sing worth a hoot!
Rare shipshape sam Posted October 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2007 We did dueling pianos in March and May on Sovereign and had them for both cruises with PACKED audiences. Heard they were gone in June! :( They were making a good amount of tips the nights we were there including $20 from us each night. Hope RCL brings them back. We actually skipped going on Sovereign in August and went to Panama City Beach, FL for a long week-end in part because dueling pianos were not on the ship.:)
dino76 Posted October 26, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 26, 2007 That's too bad... never seen it - heard lots of good things and were looking forward to dualing pianos!
Rare shipshape sam Posted October 26, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 26, 2007 That's too bad... never seen it - heard lots of good things and were looking forward to dualing pianos! Dueling Pianos is a popular concept. I have seen the concept in Las Vegas at New York, New York hotel.
Merion_Mom Posted October 26, 2007 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2007 Oh, they are hardly unique to cruise ships. There are venues in most major cities, and many smaller cities, that feature Dueling Pianos.

Gracie115 Posted October 27, 2007 #11 Share Posted October 27, 2007 never say never......perhaps RCCL will hear the complaints and respond positively....there is other entertainment they could eliminate and bring this popular one back....we can only hope!! cruisegirl1 Posted October 27, 2007 #12 Share Posted October 27, 2007 Shipshape Sam. You really did not take a cruise because of a cancellation of a particular entertainment? Did you let RCCL know of this vacation decision? By the way – how did you know that your alternate vacation would include dueling pianos? I did enjoy the dueling pianos but thought that the tipping had gotten a little out of hand. The musicians were talented and really engaged the audience. Perhaps a notation on comment cards will bring dueling pianos back. M

M Yes we did decide to go to Panama City Beach, FL area vs a 3 day cruise on Sovereign in August and in part the decision was because Dueling Pianos is no longer part of the entertainment package offered. Will I sail on Sovereign again (before they ship her out?) maybe. We are considering sailing Sovereign in January 2008. I may go snow ski instead. There was not a dueling pianos concept in PCB, FL that we attended. I just mention, that Dueling Pianos is not limited to cruise ships. I have enjoyed the concept in Las Vegas, NV As to noting on comment card, you are correct, it could help, but in general cruise lines are 'dumbing down' many of the things I felt were the really neat things associated with cruising when we started in the late 90's. Will I stop cruising, no, but I will not take as many cruises in the future I don't think.
