Penguinlo Posted November 4, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2007 but I've tried to use calling cards at various caribbean ports and have not been able to. I called to check with the companies before leaving and was told they would work. The problem was, the phones at the ports would not accept them. Ended up calling collect. Maybe if you are away from the ports, you could use them, but we didn't look around for other phones. Hope this helps.
firefly333 Posted November 5, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2007 I tried using a Walgrens calling card from Key West from a pay phone, and it didnt work. Key West is Florida, so dont know why it wouldnt work from there. I had to find quarters to call my parents about a medical situation.
cb at sea Posted November 5, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2007 Our Verizon cell worked just fine from Key West. I'm not even sure there are phones at Coco cay! In the Bahamas, your best bet is an international calling card and a pay phone. Just make sure you buy the card in the port where you'll be using it! don't buy it in the States--that card is for calling TO and foreign country! You want to be able to call FROM a foreign place! Better yet--use the ship's e-mail to touch base, if you must. The world won't stop turning if you don't call for a week!
