Just curious-Why no casino on Jade?

The Jade is actually the Pride of Hawaii after she is renamed and sent toward Europe. The Pride of Hawaii has no casino as she was brought into service to do the 7-nt. island cruises around Hawaii. Gambling is illegal in Hawaii....so no casino or bingo on the ships doing the Hawaiian cruises. If you are looking at a drawing...it is probably the drawing of the layout of the POH. Once this ship is renamed the Jade, the interior redone (getting rid of the Hawaiian theme) and taken out of Hawaii...I am SURE there will be a casino put in. NCL would not lose out on the casino revenue. Relax...I am sure you will be able to gamble on the Jade.

ok-this has been bothering me....why does the Jade not have a casino?

So few options out of NYC-- yet I have had to eliminate the Jade becuase of this.... just wondering

They are going to convert some rooms to a casino on the Jade when it is converted from the pride of hawaii to the jade.

In February and March.

The POH sails to Los Angeles with a . There will be a short, less than a week, turnover into the Jade. Then it sails to Miami via the Panama Canal with a 13 day cruise, then another 13 day cruise Trans Atlantic from Miami to Barcelona. After it arrives in Barcelona, there will be a two week layover for more conversion work.

I don''t know when the casino will be installed, I''m thinking it's more likely to occur after it reaches Barcelona, but it could be done very quickly in Los Angeles. But it will be done before it starts cruising the Mediterranean.

You can bet the farm that NCL will not let Jade carry passengers for over a month between Honolulu and Spain without a casino. Their announced plan is to repaint the hull art and install the casino in Honolulu after the last cruise as POH (o/a February 6th), then sail to LA & Miami and on to Barcelona.

Initially, I thought the same. But, checking the POH and Jade's schedule, I've come to a different conclusion.

Don't forget, they will have to tear out cabins before they can add the casino, and that will take time.

Here's the details of the POH and Jade sechdules.

Pride of Hawaii's last 7 day Hawaiian cruise

Starts on January 21

Pride of Hawaii's 12 day Reposition cruise to Los Angelses

Starts on January 28, ends February 9

No cruises from Febraury 9 to February 16

Norwegian Jade 13 day Panama Canal Reposition cruise to Miami

Starts February 16, ends February 29

Norwegian Jade's 13 Trans Atleantic Reposition cruise to Barcelona

Starts February 29, ends March 12

No crusies from March 12 to March 30

Norwegian Jades first 12 day Mediterranean cruise

Starts March 30.

NCL will have 7 days to work on the remodeling the POH into the Jade in Los Angeles, and 18 days in Barcelona. I would think most of the work will occur in Barcelona, mainly because there 11 more days to get the work done.

I certainly will do inquiries, but it will be a while. We will be on the January 21 cruise through the islands. So, the answer will be after we return from Hawaii on February 4. Interesting question, and even tho we do no gamble, I was wondering the same thing about time line for a casino installation!

The casino will go where the White Mischief Ultralounge is now (on Deck 6). That's where it is on its sister ships and the conversion won't require tearing much out - easily doable in wet dock between returning to Honolulu from its last Hawaii cruise (February 4th) and departing LA for a Panama Canal transit on February 16th.

Hm, not sure what the White Mischief Ultralounge is -- don't recall seeing that on POH, and the matching casino areas on the Pearl and Gem are where the only cabins on Deck 6 (44 of them) are located on POH (which is a very strange little area anyway -- having walked through it a few times during our cruise -- they were kind of "shoehorned in"). I imagine the top two priorities for this ship are getting the new name painted on her, and getting the casino installed. I wouldn't even be surprised if the tearout work begins during the last Hawaiian cruise and/or the reposition to LA cruise (they'd just not sell those cabins during those).

Tearing out these cabins will probably include some blowtorch work, which could burn some retinas of guests. I don't believe NCL would risk open flame work with passengers aboard, short of an emergency repair. That type of work is usually reserved for wet docks or dry docks.

Oops - wrong deck plan! Anyway, the casino does go on Deck 6 where there are currently cabins. I'm still betting that the first time NCL puts passengers on the Jade (Honolulu - LA?), it will have a casino.

I was about to say the same thing. the casino should be the first thing they add, not the last.

if not then, certainly before it heads any further into the Caribbean and over to Spain.

I also believe NCL will want to install the casino as quick as possible.

We're talking about removing 44 cabins, 44 restrooms, more than 44 walls, electrical wires and plumbing pipes. Then they will have to install power to who knows how many slot machines, new overhead lamps, new security cameras, new security control center for the casino, a new bar with it's own plumbing, new carpeting and decor. They can probably get it done in 7 days, but they'll be working 24 hours around the clock for the entire 7 days to do so.

It's just that they will have an additional 11 days to do so once it arrives in Barcelona. It's possible the 7 days in Los Angeles work will concentrate mostly on the casino, and the almost three weeks in Barcelona work will be on everything else.

But I can not state when and where which refurbishing work will be done, only NCL knows for sure. But the only time in the schedule is while the ship is in Los Angeles, or after it arrives in Barcelona.

They have to remove 27 category C oceanview staterooms and 17 category KK inside staterooms for a total of 44 cabins.

I guess it's not as easy as putting them as pre-constructed shells!

I see that they have updated the deck plans on NCL.com for Jade now with the new names for venues and also with the casino on Deck 6.

My guess after looking at deck plan, that it would be possible to isolate the section of the deck and demolish the area and make ready the area for installation of the casino in LA. Of course they would miss the revenue from unused cabins but would make up monies from LA to Maimi and Maimi to Barcelona.

I'm wondering if the cabins in that area are being booked for the transpacific. We've been on cruises before when major work was being done in one area while we partied on the rest of the ship.

What makes you think they'll do all the work in port? I was cruising on the Celebrity Constellation a few years ago and they were refurbishing the night club DURING my cruise. The hammering, sawing, and not being able to use the night club during the cruise was waved off with one of those "sorry for any inconvenience" statements from the ship .................. AFTER we had paid for the cruise and had embarked, of course!

Here's part of the NCL statement regarding Jade ...

"Pride of Hawai`i becomes Norwegian Jade

Pride of Hawai`i will continue her seven-day roundtrip Honolulu cruises through the January 28, 2008 cruise.

The ship will enter wet dock on February 6 where she will receive modifications including the addition of a casino and new hull artwork.

The ship will be re-named Norwegian Jade and will be showcased during inaugural events in both Los Angeles and Miami.

After a series of repositioning cruises, the ship will arrive in Barcelona for her first 12-day cruise beginning on March 30, 2008."

There is no longer a Jan 28 cruise for POH/Jade according to the NCL site. The last inter-island cruise end Jan 28 in Honolulu. It looks as though her next passenger cruise is Feb 16 with a 13 day sail from LA to Miami via Panama Canal.

So it looks like they nixed the reposition cruise Honolulu to LA.

Seems like they'll p[aint the hull in Honolulu and then begin work on the casino to be completed with the new unveiling as Norwegian Jade in LA.
