Majesty 12/14 - Short Review

This was our 11th cruise on Royal Caribbean and first on the Majesty. We've sailed on the Sovereign once, and the Monarch several times. I liked this ship better than either of its sister ships. The Majesty was refurb'd last year and looks great. There's a Johnny Rockets. The Windjammer on Majesty is much nicer than her sister ships' - there's a Deli area with light, more-healthy fare; and in the morning there were two omelet bars during breakfast. In the afternoons, they were making fresh crepes at the omelet bar.

Day 1: We arrived at the Port of Miami around 11:45 am. Check-in was a breeze - there were no lines at all. They have areas to check-in by deck number, and there was no waiting at any of them. We were through security, checked in, welcome aboard picture taken, on the ship with drink in-hand literally within 20 minutes of parking the car. Parking here is $20/day.

We checked out or table assignment, as we had requested a table for 2. We were assigned table 9, on the lower deck of the dining room (deck 3). Our table was next to the window as was just perfect. From there, we went up to the Windjammer for lunch. Had my favorite (Honey Stung Chicken) – too bad this is only served on the first day.

After lunch, we went to our cabin. We had cabin 1010, the RS. As far as the new suite perks go, we had Evian water, a bottle of good Champagne on ice, a pillow menu, upgraded bathroom amenities, and robes/slippers. Snacks were delivered each afternoon. The cabin was quite nice, very similar to the one on the Monarch. The balcony was quite large, with faux-teak loungers, small table, dining table, and 2 chairs. We spent a lot of time out there – our favorite place on the ship.

Our room steward, Robert from Poland, came and introduced himself. He was always available for anything we needed, and one of the nicest we’ve ever had. The muster drill was pretty quick, and then we were off to our balcony for sail-away. The RS balcony is right next to the starboard bridge extension, so we met the captain and crew and were able to watch them navigate the boat as we left the pier. Opened the bottle of bubbly for sail-away and watched South beach and Fisher Island slip by.

We went to the dining room for main seating (6pm). Our waiter, Clifford from India and his assistant Chou from China were wonderful. Every evening more than one party showed up late between 30 minutes and one hour. They still had our food out promptly and everything was well done and well presented. We were quite surprised, though, that we NEVER were met by the Head Waiter. We at least expected him to show his face on tip night – but no. This was a first for us.

After dinner, spent some time in the casino – and retired to the cabin.

Day 2: Coco Cay

We had been looking forward to Coco Cay, as they have Hobie Cat sailboats for rent there, which we very much enjoy. Unfortunately, it was too windy and they were not letting them out. Same for kayaks and beach floats. We walked the nature trail the entire length of the island. If you look carefully, you’ll find the remains of some kind of fort as well as a grave marked “Bluebeard”. We then went back to the ship for lunch and to spend the afternoon on the balcony.

This evening was formal night. I don’t think I saw a single Tux, did see lots of suits and jacket/tie combos. We didn’t do so well at the casino, but I did see a young couple win $1500 on a slot machine. Nice to see that at least someone was taking money out!

Day 3: Nassau

We had wanted to do the Stuart Cove Snorkel with the Sharks, but unfortunately the ship arrives too late for the morning trip and leaves too early for the afternoon trip. We spent the day walking around Nassau, and took a horse-buggy ride tour ($10/person). Nancy went to the Spa for Pilates for the scheduled 4pm class. There was no instructor for her. They told her to wait a couple of minutes, but by quarter after there was no instructor and no word on when there would be the scheduled class. When she said she was not going to wait longer, and wanted to make sure she was not charged for the class, there was no apology or anything – they acted as if she was at fault for showing up.

After dinner, we did our shopping on board, had a drink, and went back to our cabin to pack and get some sleep.

Day 4: Miami

The ship docked at 7am. People carrying their own luggage were getting off by 7:30. Our color was called next, and we were leaving the ship by 7:45. Customs/Immigration was nothing – no lines again – and we had our bag and were in the car by 8:05.

Overall, it was a great 3 day experience. The few negatives (and some rude Miami residents) were overshadowed by the good things – and we’ll definitely be back on this ship again.

ty capnlars, we'll be on Majesty in JS1040 2-18-08. Though its only a JS (we won't have pillow menus, water, treats, etc) I'm looking forward to watching the officers on the bridge wing getting us underway. Was Robert the steward just for the RS or does he get some of the GS too.

When we did Majesty 3 day they went to Nassau on Day 1 which gave us a full day there. I think they did that so both Soverign and Majesty would be in CoCo Cay on the same day as they were having a plane fly overhead shooting promo shots and wanted the place to be lively. That made getting off the ship miserable on the Tenders.

Robert had the RS, 2 OS's and at least a couple of GSs on the starboard side.

The JSs looked like they were pretty decent sized. Have a good trip.

We were in a junior suite on the same cruise. While the room was smaller compared to what we're used to it was more than big enough for the two of us. Loved the new bedding also.

This thread is just too wierd. We were on Majesty 12/14 and had the late seating at table 9 with Clifford and Chou on deck 3 as you, so I guess you must have had the main seating for dinner at the same table (I am hoping that so I don't think I am in the Twilight Zone!) If you were at the main seating, that was an excellent choice since we were stuck in the middle of 100 15 year old girls from Argentina celebrating their birthdays.

We too thought many Miami residents were rude and loud and we even had to move our chairs in Coca Cay when they all came and sat around us yelling loudly etc. at each other. We are from South Florida, but found these people very rude and loud compared to what we are used to here.

Our cabin was a Junior suite 1542 and loved it.

Just re-read your post and I see now that you stated that you had the 6pm seating ....

We were on this same cruise - and also had a fantastic time! We didn't run into any rude Miami residents though (how did you know they were from Miami?). And, we did see the 15-year-old Argentinian girls too. :)

The Majesty is one of our favorite ships -- and it's even better since the rehab! The new upholstery on the chairs in the lounges looks very nice, and the new bedding is wonderful!

We loved our pool server, Sampson! Every day he'd look for us and bring us special drinks! And, our waiter, Edwin and Asst Waiter, Ricky, were great too.

I'm going again this weekend! :D

We heard them talking in Spanish about being from Miami, it was a larger family/group sailing for them.

We love Majesty and can't get enough of it for the short weekend cruises, but being on this ship makes you realize how short the weekend is as we don't want to get off. We take these in between the larger 7 night cruises.

We too travel so regularly that some of the crew knows us and remembers what drinks we drink. Can't wait until our next one!

capnlars - I'm not sure that Nancy missed much when she didn't get to take the Pilates class. I took one on the Jewel and it was terrible. Not anything like any Pilates I've ever seen. I would never do another one.

Dotty

It was more that we made our schedule around it and that nobody even said anything to her. She's done them on other ships and it's not like she gets from her trainer, but she still enjoyed the workout.
