bethd Posted September 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2004 Do they still serve free coffee in the Zaandams Java Cafe? I really enjoyed this daily on my last Rotterdam cruise. Thanks Beth
GrammyPL Posted September 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2004 Beth - I don't think the Zaandam has been in for a overhaul lately so-- she still should have the Java Cafe. Penny
akeka Posted September 10, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2004 Penny, I'm confused by your answer. Were they removed on some of the ships? I was planning to enjoy the Java cafe on the Volendam. Thanks.
Toad Posted September 10, 2004 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2004 I would like to know if the Rotterdam still has one? It is a vital part of crusing for us addicts!
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 10, 2004 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2004 As part of HAL's SOE program, all the ships will soon lose the Java Cafe. Although it may still be called the Java Cafe on the "R" and "S" class ships, HAL is changing them over to be a cafe like the Windstar Cafes on the Vista class ships. The Java Cafes on each ship could change without much notice.
doone Posted September 10, 2004 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2004 As of this past March, the Rotterdam still had it.
sail7seas Posted September 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 10, 2004 I don't think it will be as disappointing as some of you seem to think when/if Java Cafes are replaced with Windstar. The coffees from Windstar are fabulous and a very reasonable price for huge cups. I think you may be happier with it than you imagine at the moment. akeka Posted September 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 11, 2004 Thank you for the update. I guess I missed it somewhere that the "free" coffee bar was being replaced with the fee coffee bar. Sail7seas, you're right about it not being as important a change as we think. I mostly only hit the java bar for cookies and popcorn. kruzkeen Posted September 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 11, 2004 Do they still serve free coffee in the Zaandams Java Cafe? To answer your specific question. Yes the Zaandam still has free coffee in the Java Cafe. This ship still does not have a Neptune Lounge installed. KrazyKruizer: Do you know when they will start the SOE upgrades of the Zaandam? elmorejj Posted September 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted September 11, 2004 The Zaandam had most of the SOE upgrades in April. It goes into dry dock in January for the other conversions....Neptune etc. We will be on her for 17 days in Dec and can`t wait.....jean
Himself Posted September 11, 2004 #11 Share Posted September 11, 2004 I was on the VOLENDAM in June and they still had it. I wonder if it will be there in November? Himself

TriGirl Posted September 11, 2004 #13 Share Posted September 11, 2004 We toured the Oosterdam when it was in San Francisco and I noticed that there was a Java Cafe. Does anyone know if they're still using it on the Oosterdam?
Linda&Vern Posted September 12, 2004 #14 Share Posted September 12, 2004  I've just gotten over the shock that I have to pay for a soda with meals on the ship, now I'm reading there might be a "fee" for my husband's coffee? Don't get me wrong, these charges won't break my budget -- but as a first time cruiser I guess I thought that (except for alcohol, spa services, and shore excursions) cruises were "all inclusive." AND, I DO SO APRECIATE THE VAST AMOUNT OF INFORMATION I AM LEARNING FROM THIS BOARD! Getting excited about our Maasdam Holiday Cruise from Norfolk! sail7seas Posted September 12, 2004 #15 Share Posted September 12, 2004 Linda&Vern....All coffee in the dining room and in Lido is complimentary. Espresso and cappucino after dinner in the dining room is complimentary. The coffees that have a charge are in the Windstar Cafe on the Visa ships and they are wonderful....a real coffee lover will really enjoy them IMO The charge really is very moderate IMO
sheephugs Posted September 12, 2004 #16 Share Posted September 12, 2004 Please provide clarification. My husband is a real latte addict. On the Zuiderdam, a visit to the Windstar Cafe was a daily must. We are going on the Zaandam in November (may just be 7 days at sea since our ports of call are being systematically descimated...in all seriousness my thoughts and prayers are with the residents who are having to live through the destruction). I was wondering if the "free coffee" is just coffe or does it include the specialty drinks like lattes, cappucinos, etc?
sail7seas Posted September 12, 2004 #17 Share Posted September 12, 2004 Espresso and cappucino at Java Cafe. I don't drink Latte so cannot say for sure they have that but I am quite sure they do.
sheephugs Posted September 12, 2004 #18 Share Posted September 12, 2004 Thanks for the prompt reply S7S! When we booked the Zaandam cruise the first thing my husband looked for was the Windstar Cafe. We saw Java Cafe & hoped it would be comparable. Sounds like it will!:)

elmorejj Posted September 23, 2004 #22 Share Posted September 23, 2004 Paticakes, there was a list of dry docks for the various ships posted on this forum several months ago. I don`t have the list now, maybe someone else does. Anyway, when we were onboard the Zaandam in Ap/May this year, I recomfirmed this with one of the officers. She goes into dry dock in The Bahamas after the new years cruise....jean
