Dee777 Posted December 27, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2007 If you do, how much percentage wise? We booked a cruise for 17 people, and some are extending their cruise to rent a car and do Disney World, etc. She put in a lot of time, and had much patience fielding all of our questions, even welcomed us to contact her at her home email during her off time. I would like to show our appreciation, but am not sure exactly how much to give her, and do not want to insult! Thank you in advance to anyone who can help. sandancer Posted December 27, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2007 This subject has come up before and from what I remember most people do not tip the TA. However, it sounds like your TA put a lot of work in so it would be nice to make some gesture. Personally I would not give a tip, I would send some champagne and flowers or bring a nice gift back. George W. Bush Posted December 27, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Your T.A is a professional and doesn't expect a tip. If you had open heart surgery, you wouldn't think of tipping your surgeon.
paul929207 Posted December 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2007 I agree no tip for TA. If you feel it is appropriate, a gift like a bottle of wine would be nice.
RichardK Posted December 27, 2007 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2007 No, never................. As a Customer of theirs, if there is any remuneration to be had, I'd expect it to come my way!!
Spikesgirl Posted December 27, 2007 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2007 Our TA goes above and beyond, but no, we do not tip her. We do try to bring back something appropriate from the region we have visited, like vanilla beans from Tahiti, a terra cotta warrior replica from China. It's mostly to let her know that we were thinking of her when we were off having a grand time due to her efforts. I'll bet your TA would enjoy a thank you card signed by all 17 travellers, along with their sentiments. Sometimes a sincere thank you is gift enough. eandj Posted December 27, 2007 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2007 I agree.. no tipping the T.A. They get their commisions and if they do an outstanding job, you will use them again and recommend them to others. Their job is customer service and count on that word of mouth business. We had 2 family cruises of over 18 people and after each we gave the T.A. a letter with all all appreciations. The T.A. uses parts of it for promotional literature. "Good for her business". Rare Keith1010 Posted December 27, 2007 #8 Share Posted December 27, 2007 There is absolutely no need to tip your TA as your TA is getting commissions from your cruise. We do bring back a gift for our TA but this is a personal decision and I suspect that most people don't do this. Keith
Dee777 Posted December 28, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted December 28, 2007 Thank you all for your helpful comments. I think when we return from our trip, we will send her a card along with a nice floral arrangement for her desk.
sunsurf Posted December 28, 2007 #10 Share Posted December 28, 2007 Dee777, Why not buy something for her from one of the islands? A nice print done by a local artist maybe? I'm sure she will appreciate that.
Amlee Posted December 28, 2007 #11 Share Posted December 28, 2007 I do not expect a tip when I do any bookings. But I do have several clients that will bring me back something from their trips.
Grandpaul Posted December 28, 2007 #12 Share Posted December 28, 2007 I found out our TA has a fondness for chocolate covered strawberries so every once in a while I send her some. Just a few bucks but she loves them. She has gone to bat for me a couple times and it worked out.
pris993 Posted December 28, 2007 #13 Share Posted December 28, 2007 We have had excellent TAs over the years. We often have brought back gifts (a perfume we knew they liked, jewelry, etc.), we have taken our TAs out for dinner and given them holiday gifts as expressions of our appreciation for their service. We give a doctor who provides excellent care gifts. We even give our cleaners t-shirts when we travel, they love being remembered. We take small gifts for staff at hotels, airline personnel and customer service staff on board ships. The bottom line is people do love being appreciated and thanked for services or simply surprised by an act of thoughtfulness. Do what feels good for you. mikedw Posted December 28, 2007 #14 Share Posted December 28, 2007 Was a TA for about 8 years and never received a tip and never expected one. Received some nice gifts from clients, but the best gift of all was when they came back into the office and shared there experiences with me. Karysa Posted December 28, 2007 #15 Share Posted December 28, 2007 My current TA became my TA by fixing someone else's mistake. I knew that she was going on a special trip a couple of weeks before we were so I gave her a journal to use as a keepsake. She was really touched and told me just the other day that she just used the journal again for her last vacation. Karysa
