jamie0483 Posted February 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2008 How long does it take to actually get off the ship and get on your way? We are planning to do self-assist, pick up a rental car, and hopefully spend the day at Disney World. Is this feasible or does it take a long time to actually get going? firefly333 Posted February 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2008 I was on RCL at that port and they let the platinum get off first, then us, but we were off about 7:15 am. It shouldnt take much longer if you are there and ready to get off when they first start like we were. We had to wait for the shuttle to pick us up to take us to the Radisson and we still left town well before 10 a.m. Id say you can get to Disneyworld in less than an hour and a half and park. Id say you are cutting it close to get your money's worth to me. Id save disney and do universal which is fun and cheaper if you cant spend a whole day. KroozNut Posted February 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2008 Based on our experience last July, you should have no problem. We were off the ship by 9:00 AM.
Knights on the Beach Posted February 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2008 It pretty much depends on how fast Immigration clears the ship. They wouldn't let anyone do self-assist when we were on the Sensation in December and it was close to 10:00 a.m. when we got off.
G.C Posted February 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2008 It all depends on how much trouble the ship has getting cleared with customs. We have sailed from there 7 times and usually are of the ship by 8:30. Two weeks ago we were in the parking lot at 8:05. Worst ever was 10:15. Rare Essiesmom Posted February 18, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2008 I did not do self assist, but was still in my truck exiting the parking lot by 8am, even having to find my bag and get a valet shuttle to a different parking lot! travelgarn Posted February 18, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 18, 2008 We were on the Sensation in October 2007 & they did not do self-assist. Others that have sailed her since they may be able to tell you better. But we were still off & on the road by 9 am. DJ
TBatt30 Posted February 18, 2008 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2008 We were on the Fantasy in July 2006 and did the self-assist. We were off the ship before 8 a.m.!
Lesinindy Posted February 19, 2008 #11 Share Posted February 19, 2008 Does anyone have any idea as to how hard it is to get from the debarkation location to a car rental? We have a one way from the port to Orlando with Enterprise.
G.C Posted February 19, 2008 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2008 Enterprise rental is a few miles south of the port toward Coco Beach. They will shuttle you to the port before your cruise or pick you up after your cruise.
bcs819 Posted February 19, 2008 #13 Share Posted February 19, 2008 we have done this twice. The first time with Avis was a HUGE hassle because there were about 50 people waiting for the shuttle which held about 8 people and everyone was pushing and shoving. It was ugly. We only got on because the driver hit me in the head with a suitcase as he was loading the shuttle and someone behind me pushed. He was very upset about hitting me, but I spun it into us getting on the shuttle (it did hurt!) Second time, Feb 2007, with Budget. Nice and simple. Shuttles ran smoothly, but there were hardly any cars in the lot. I think it is a lot of drop-off from people embarking, etc. We saw how few cars were in the lot and I jumped off the shuttle and jumped in line for a car while DH waited for luggage. We were in Disney by noon.
jmcdon7230 Posted February 19, 2008 #14 Share Posted February 19, 2008 We were debarking the Glory on Feb. 9th and a bomb scare delayed us for two hours. We didn't get off the ship until 11:30AM. Luckily we were driving and did not have to worry about a flight.
