Foundation for problem complexion...

CMK1970

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm going on my first cruise in July so I really need some advice on what foundation would look good or at least keep me from getting that special glow(NOT, LOL) when you have oily skin in the tropical heat...

I'm 37 have some sun spots(darn those tanning beds:rolleyes: ) combination skin but more on the oily side and since I still have that lovely oil..I have acne flareups every now and then:o I really thought I was to old for this, LOL! I had better skin and hardly any pimples when I was younger, then BOOM!

Right now I'm using avon and I have tried different brands but never really any luck. If I try to cover my flareups it makes me look older and if I use something with less coverage my problem skin is visable:(

So do any of you have any suggestions? I have been eyeing the bare minerals but not sure if it would give me enough coverage:confused:

BTW..love reading this board! So many great advice and info:)

Bare Minerals provides a surprising amount of coverage. I have had some really bad bouts of rosacea and it covered it beautifully. However, I found that it made my face look mask-like and kind-of flat, especially in photographs. But others have great results with it. You can buy the starter kit and return it if you're unhappy.

If you're still having spots you may want to visit a dermatologist to find the best cleanser and treatments for your skin. I have very oily skin and use the Arbonne line with good results. They have some products for aging skin that help quite a bit with lines and discolouration. But in terms of makeup, I use a Clinique oil-free liquid foundation along with the Bare Minerals Mineral Veil to soak up the oil. It does an excellent job of that, and fills in the fine lines without looking gloppy.

You might want to visit some of the different department store counters and ask them to give you a makeover with their products, then walk around for a day before you decide if they give you enough coverage.

I struggled for YEARS to find a foundation that would accomadate my finicky skin.

I had tried every expensive brand out there, and some cheapies too.

Liquid makeup seemed to either cake up or totally diasppear, if it did not manage to turn me into a walking glazed donut...eew!

Powder alone...not enough.

I, too, was not convinced that BM would be the ticket for me...was afraid it would not be anough coverage and would be too dry.

I was dead wrong.

It is the PERFECT makeup for me, and I will never use another!

I can adjust the shades perfectly, adjust the coverage to perfection as well.

It lasts all day and yet feels just like my own skin.

What I love as well is the concealer/brush...it is magic.

My skin can breathe and I never ever feel like I have 'pancake' face anymore.

I get so many compliments on my skin now!:D

I would try it, as already stated, if you don't care for it you can return it.;) :) You've nothing to lose!

if you are suddenly getting adult acne you may want to visit a dermatologist it could be rosacea and the meds and creams for it make a huge difference. I had a similar situation always had perfect skin and then suddenly bam, red flushing all the time, I take adoxa 100mg 2 x day and use noritate cream 1 x day and my skin looks like it used to again, it was a big relief to find something that worked, I don't have to use any foundation now.

I had no idea my thread even posted:eek: I got the timeout statement so I assumed it didnt post:rolleyes: These boards are acting up even more lately..hard on all of us who are addicted:p:D

Its so nice to have others that know what I'm talking about..I see all these fresh looking faces that seem to have no makeup or very little on and think "Why cant my skin look like that?"

I also have tried many different brands from Walmart to High end department stores...I really need to just go ahead and see a dermatologist but kept thinking I was just going through a phase..

I use Proactive so that does not help the dryness and redness that occurs but helps with my breakouts..~sigh~ I do use clinque eye and face lotion...seems alittle heavy but the salesperson said it was for oily skin:confused:

Well I have heard and seen so much talk about bare minerals just didnt know if it would be right for me..sound good that if I do not like it I can return it.

Do you order it online? I'm checking out self tanners right now that another poster recommended on the CC forum...

You all are such great help and I really appreciate it:)

Get to the root of the problem and try to correct that instead of covering up your skin with makeup.

I have a little acne rosacea and almost all products make it flare up. Most products have scents and dyes that are irritants. Bare Minerals was probably the worst product I ever tried, I had it on once for about 10 minutes, it made my skin burn for 2 days. I tried it because so many women here gave it such high marks. I've finally gotten to the point where I can control it and don't wear foundation at all. Which is nice because foundation is irritating to my skin.

My daughter has teenage acne and very dry skin, a horrible combination. She breaks out because of hormones, yet cannot use products that dry up pimples. Acne products actually irritate her skin and make her break out even more. She uses Cetaphil to cleanse and a topical antibiotic lotion with a gel moisturizer that contains no oil.

My point is that you can get many different suggestions here and everyone is well meaning, but they cannot know what is best for you. If you seek professional help and advice you can avoid having a drawer full of expensive remedies that just don't work for you. Instead of phoney looking makeup, you can have glowing skin that doesn't need covering up.

I used Obagi for a couple years, it's a great skin care line that actually took away ALL of my sunspots, etc. But now I use Boots No.7 line of skin care AND the makeup which I just love. I bought mine in England but Boots No.7 is available in bigger Target stores in the USA..it's very reasonably priced. I have some sun spots but they make a lightweight foundation that adjusts to your skin tone. Good luck.

Bare Minerals has bismuth in it that some people can find irritating, but many others that I know are perfectly happy with it. A number of other companies offer mineral makeup as well, including Laura Mercier and Jane Iredale found in stores. Online retailers include Alima, Lumiere (my favorite), Meow and Everyday Minerals. I would agree that trying to treat the skin issues is important.

I'm not looking for professional help just info on what others use for their problem skin complexion..I like to hear different suggestions this is why I posted ...does not mean I'm going to go out and buy what everybody else is using, lol.

I'm very interested in the Bare Minerals so that was also why I posted...to see how many people use it, what they thought of it and where they purchase it from.

I have already stated that I need to see a dematologist but I'm not here for help in that area...I'm here to discuss and talk with posters that have the same problem as I do...you know..girl/woman talk;)

Yes these boards are ridiculous lately....

You can find the Bare Minerals at Ulta and Sephora stores if you have those near you.

Otherwise, yes you can order it online.

I do find a larger selection and it better to see it in person , however.:)

But, I am the touchy feely type!:D

I swear to you, my skin will freak out at the bare mention of a random ingredient.

Problem is..I never know what that might be until it is too late and my skin is freakin' on fire and I am running for the nearest swimming pool.

I am happy to report to the OP that I personally did not have any reaction to these products, obviously!:D

I wanted to mention also that I LURV the mineral veil product.

I simply gives you that finishing touch over what shades you have selected ( I use self tanner if I cruise and do the Mytic Tan so I will use their bronzer/tan shades to match accordingly).

Finally i also am a HUGE fan of their Glimmer shadows.127427.jpg

It has a little shimmer in it and if you wet it it gets even deeper.Comes in the most beautiful array of colors and you can really play with them!

My skin is not very sensitive..I guess the way I posted it sounded like I have bad breakouts but I dont..just maybe one on my chin every now and then always around the time I'm PMSing...my main thing is oily skin.

When I see pics of myself I cringed because I'm glowing...not in a good way, LOL.

I'm just curious to what posters use and if any foundations really help with oily skin.

I have heard so much about Bare Minerals...I think maybelline:confused: has a new line out around the same as BM. Has anyone tried this?

:)

What is the mineral veil? Water baby said something about that also..

I remember that you posted that they offer concealers...is it liquid?

That is one of my problems also..when I use to tan my face would not match the rest of my body...I would have to go looking for a shade that was close....then felt that I looked like a clown thinking I had that dreaded line:eek: I would love to have something that I could "play" with colorwise:D I plan on using a self tanner this year...dont want to look like casper on my cruise...LOL!!:p

Mineral Power....Is the brand I believe it was.

I DID try it trying to save a buck or two....mistake.

I will be honest, it just did NOT did the job for me.

Do not think I was not disappointed, I am not the spokesperson for BM, cuz for any $$ I save I can spend on a shoe!

But my skin it just as important...actually more, and it just did not get the job done for me.

Soaked right back into my skin within a couple of hours and was gone.

Their mascara? Love it!

This stuff...not so much.

Try this web site, it is very informative, www dot makeupalley dot com.

They review all the makeup/products under the sun and it has been great and it is free.:D

I too was totally suprised at the coverage of Bare Minerals. I have that lovely red glow of rosacea and it really covered it well--almost all day. Their mineral veil is wonderful.

BUT, when I would get warm, my face would feel prickly. I mean really really prickly and uncomfortable. The bismuth in BM really irratated me, so I had to stop using it.

I tried the Everyday Minerals and loved it! They have alot more colors in their foundations. And when I got hot--no prickly or burn!

I have also tried Loreal mineral makeup, it is pretty good, but not as pure as Everyday Minerals. I will be going back to EM.

Hope this helps!

Later!

Mineral Veil is a loose finishing powder they give you that is amazing.

The concealer is actually just the powder. What is so amazing to me is what I have always hated about them is they looked obvios, yellow, blue...gross.

BM..you take the tip of your concealer brush and wet the tip. You dip it into the powder and apply to affected area.

I swear to you, the area will disappear.

Because it already matches your skin tone, there is no obvious demarkation that is so common.

I hate that.

As far as tanning, I have several little "jars" of the powder in my shades, as you will quickly learn you skin tone.

What you then you is mix a little of this and a little of that in a lid for the perfect shade.

This is perfect for me because as you fade or increase in color you can adjust! With the bottle foudation you can't do that, you are "stuck" with that shade...their is no graduation so to speak up or down, Unless you want to have a line of large bottles/tubes and even then, getting a good match is almost impossible with liquid IMO.

Yes, I know, but you do have to keep in mind that people can only relate their own personal experience. They cannot know your skin type and know what will work for you. Hence, the recommendation to seek advice from a specialist or professional. It may save you precious time, money and aggravation with your skin.

Everyone here is well meaning and it is nice to be chatty and friendly and relate your favorite things, but you are asking for advice that is better suited to ask a professional who can see, feel, plus ask you specific questions about your skin. Medication can make you break out, you may be allergic to your laundry detergent, you may be over-stimulating your skin with too harsh a soap or cleanser, etc... No one here can tell you why you are breaking out and give you an absolute conclusion.

I know I gave away about $50 worth of Bare Essentuals after one use. I've thrown out full bottles of sunscreen that made my skin feel like it was on fire, all of them sensitive skin products. After following the advice from an esthetician I buy specific brands that really work for my skin type. My daughter follows the advice of a doctor and she is blemish free. We save a lot of money by not trying products that may be recommended by others with far different skin conditions than our own.

LOL I'm not asking people for professional help...just posted to see what other women use and how they liked Bare Minerals..I know my skin type is not like everyone else and I'm not asking to be diagnosed...

Actually my skin is not really sensitive...I think I must have come across that I have very bad skin..I dont. I might have a pimple come up on my chin around my MC but thats it...I have more problems with oily skin..

Believe me I'm not going to rush out and buy what everyone else uses...I'm more interested in Bare Minerals.

This is a discussion board, I did not come here to have other woman guess my skin type or problems..only to discuss makeup and hear what other posters have to say about their experiences;)

Dont I know it!! I would get so frustrated trying to pick out a color that would even come close to matching:rolleyes: Then I would get it home put it on and still not match, lol.

I love makeup(was a cosmetic manager when I was younger)...having something that I can mix myself sounds neat:D

Yes the concealers are a pain..most dont really work and end up looking not natural...I'm starting to get little fine lines around my eyes and dark circles...not good with my skin coloring, LOL! When I use concealers they sometime enhance the fine lines and really do not work on the darkness under my eyes...

Sometimes is so frustrating to be a woman but then again I love all the goodies we have to play with...especially if they work well:p ;) :D

I just got back from the mall. I went to Sephora and had them do my make up with the Bare Minerals. I love the way it looks, and I bought the starter kit. Now I'll have to see if I can manage to make it look like this myself!
