cruisingator2, how ya doin? a quick question for ya...does the genesis necessarily have to go the route of the great belt bridge or is there an alternate route which she may take.

hey carol, welcome back!

Doing well Tyron.:) From what I have read, this is the only route that she can take. There was some talk as you mentioned about some type of project for the Genesis funnel which will make it where it can either be raised or flipped over like the Norwegian Dawn had.

ahoy and good morning fellow cruisers..

Emmy~

wow girl you got the post numbers goin on!! I remember when you hit 5,000..seems like only yesterday?

Sorry if I'm lame on this subject..but how do you determine if the picture is copyrighted or not? I was under the impression anything on the public web domain was ok to repost?

Tyron..thanks for the effort. the pictures are exciting to see development stages of the vessel. I saw a program on cable tv on the building of the Freedom, and it is amazing how they put these ships together..lots of modular pieces..it's a giant puzzle with a very orchestrated project management team..

I still haven't seen a reply to my post on logistics conerning embarkation, debarkation and ports of call. anyone read anything?

Princess is getting away from color coding your debarkation..now they herd you into large areas..and a rep actually leads each group out as they are called..I guess the logistics of having everyone in the same debarkation time slot grouped together makes a huge difference..that way they are not coming from all points of the ship.

How does RCL handle these issues now?

It kinda sucks, I love the look of the Voyager/Freedom funnels. But, sacrifices must be made to compensate for the bridge it must pass through. I guess more amenities ranks higher on priorities!:p

Good Morning ~

Michael if you are asking about embarkation/disembarkation on Freedom class I personally have not had an issue. They seem to have this down very well at least for tendering into the ports. I truly never felt crowded on the Freedom class. My experience has been I have felt more crowded on Jewel.

There can be a lineup getting back onto the ship just before it sails.

Embarkation was great on the inaugural Freedom but a bit slower on the C & A Freedom as they had a problem with the previous sailing. That can happen on any ship or cruise line. Before the inaugural sailing of Freedom alot of apprehension was there about tendering but for us it was no slower than any other ship I have sailed.

RCI does not allow cruisers into their cabins before 1pm even though you are allowed onto the ship.

Disembarkation is done by colour.

There are a few ports that are expanding their piers to accomodate a large Genesis project ship..like St Martin and Jamaica (Falmouth) and the beach RCI rents out in Labadee Haiti is building a pier so no tendering there.

This reminded me of something..on our inaugural sailing on Freedom we tendered into 3 ports.. Grand Cayman, Labadee and Cozumel cause the pier there had been damaged by a hurricane. Tendering was smooth and well run.

Does anyone have an idea when the bookings will open? If my memory serves me correctly it should be some time in March or April? I hope it's sooner than later.

I would LOVE an outdoor eating area, as some have mentioned.

Aft pool too!

I also like the idea of an indoor bowling area, we never seem to do this at home but I would totally use this facility if it were available on vacation.

How many elevators will there be?

Anyone have any idea on more eating areas, like more buffets or extra restaurants that will not be extra$ like Chops of Portofino?

What are the chances the D1 of D2 staterooms will be the same size as the Freedom class of a slight bit larger. If it were about 220 sq.ft. it would be perfect for us. How about the cost of a cruise on the Genisis, think it will be much more than the Freedom class?

I could go on and on but I won't.

Gettin' excited and she won't even sail for on sooo looong:(

For the people thinking that they would stop building at the current yard because of that bridge. It won't change because RCCL still needs to make it into New York which is similar in size. Every ship built will always be limited by a bridge somewhere.

Emmy~

thanks, sounds like most providers are all the same..it will be an adventure..

anyone ever sail on Azamara Cruise Lines? A friend just ask me to get her hooked up to CC for it so I did some snooping..it is a subsidary of Celebrity

She's sailing on the Quest..approx 700 passengers..itienraries that are very unique (ports are very out of the way)..no formal nights..no formal dining..she will have her own butler..her cruise is a 14 day Caribbean Cruise in March...quite different than the norm..not sure about having a butler on a cruise..might be a bit crowded for me.

Of course I wish it could be sooner as well. They will not even announce the name of the ship until end of May so I do not see bookings opening up before the name is released. They are having a contest to name the ship.

When the new Freedom class opened for bookings it was on Feb 28/05 with maiden vouage on June 4/06 so about 15 months ahead. I don't think you will see bookings open up until about the Summer/08

The cost of the maiden on Freedom for an inside on opening day was $1399. pp and balconies ran about $1800. or so. Prices did come down however before sailing to about $899 - 999.pp for an inside, That $1399. was for a Cat Q lowest inside which I booked that first morning. I later was able to upgrade to a balcony guarantee for $1549.PP

good morning Emmy~

Inauagural bookings historically seem higher..if you book a specific cabin and the prices come down you can get the lower price can't you?

We booked the Sea Breeze charter for PV again this April..it will be just the 4 of us..

Are they going to have the surfiing feature on the aft like on Freedom? that looks really fun..the pictures I saw of Surfer Rick made him seem like he was surfing right off the aft of the ship!!

Didn't Freedom also have a spa with a see through bottom that extedned out over the water?

My first cruise was on Azamara Journey and I loved the ship! My DH and I loved it all. Upscale, beautiful ship. We did have a Butler, and that was great. No assigned seating. The Casino and the pool are small, but the Spa was really nice.

Sorry to be off-topic :-) I have been following this thread in the background and I am really excited about Genesis. If we like the Voyager [bigger ship than what we experienced] then we might try Genesis.

True about always being a bridge, but think about the ship's destinations. In the Caribbean, where she'll be based there aren't any bridges to worry about (as far as I know) So I think it's only a matter of time before the cruise lines go to the shipyards and will be wanting ships of bigger sizes, including height. It will just mean shipyards such as Aker might be restricted to the size of ships they can construct, unless they changed something.

I think fincantieri is a shoe in for lots of newbuilds over the coming years due to it's location.

At this time in my life Azamara does not interest me. The ships are too small for my taste. Had a butler last year on NCL and only used his service once during the entire cruise which was to set up lunch in the cabin one afternoon. I do like the non formal nights though.:)

According to the CVP I am dealing with the inventory will be released between June and October, like the Freedom and the Liberty used to.

My DH and I are both 30, and we both truly enjoyed ourselfs. Maybe because it was our first cruise. Actually, that was what I expected from a cruise :D - to be pampered all the way! I hope I enjoy my next cruise just the same. And then, hello Genesis!

June to October, can I wait that long:eek: Well if that's the case I hope the deck plans are released much earlier than 2 to 3 days prior to bookings, so at least I have something to obsess with till we can book:D

We will not be on the first voyage out of Florida but 2nd or 3rd so hopefully that will happen for late November early Dec. 09. Any predictions?

good morning cruisers..

Emmy, another contest?..lol..btw I used one of your suggestions for the name the ship contest..if I win, you can split the prize with me..a free cruise?

I was wondering about the deck layouts..does anyone have a clue? Is there actually true aft balconies on the Genesis class ships? My SO and I really like alot of the logistics of the true aft cabin..the view, the sound of the wake at night..very little passenger traffic. I'm thinking on Genesis class you may be up so high you might not even hear the wake? But wow, what a view from way up there!!

I guess there would never be a chance of taking your pets on a cruise with you? If they are going to have a people park on board, why not a dog park as well? I wonder about the quarantine laws? It wouldn't be any fun in taking your pet if you couldn't go on shore with them. Talked myself out of that one I'm thinking.

I agree with the Azamara comments, maybe in a few years when I get a bit more mature:))..no comment Emmy..wow I'll actually be retired before this cruise..

sorry forgot to ask..on behalf of my SO..do they have soft serve ice cream stations on the ships?? That is one tradition we miss on PCL..

I could always find her if we got lost..(I did, she never gets lost on a cruise ship)...we would meet at the ice cream machine:)

I think most cruiselines have the soft service stations.
