Is it possible to walk to the beach / any sights with information on the beach resort area appreciated.

When you are entering Warnemünde you are seeing the beach area at the starboard side.

You will be requested to pay "Kurtaxe" (Fee for using the beach resort fascilities) for using the beach. So do not wonder when you are asked to pay something before you can use the beach.

The whole village is a "sight".

Hi Bams1954 -

Just a quick add to what HeinBloed said, the beach is an easy walk from the pier. In general, walk to / through the train station, cross the bridge at the harbor, and then head towards the light house. It's a level walk with plenty of local shops to grab your attention. We were in Warnemünde in Sept '07 and it was a lovely sunny warm fall day. We made it out to the beach and worked our way back through town along several side streets back to the harbor where we enjoyed a wonderful local seafood lunch; paid in Euros.

A few Baltic "snaps" (including Warnemünde) can be found here -

Have a great cruise and we hope you enjoy Warnemünde. We most certainly did!

I assume, your ship will dock in Warnemünde. Here what you can do:

- Warnemünde is a sea resort with a huge beach, a nice harbour, bars and boutiques. On a sunny day, you can simply have a relaxing time.

- Nearby Rostock has a historical center, a city hall and church which are worth a visit.

- You may rent a car for the day and explore the area. A 20min-drive to the east will lead you to Fischland, a peninsula with gorgeous coastline, dunes and the picturesque fishers village Ahrenshoop which has developed into an artists' colony.

- Other options include Güstrow (castle), Wismar (old town), Bad Doberan (cathedral) and Heiligendamm (location of the G8 summit, beach & resort).

Hi HeinBloed,

I had heard Schwerin was a must see when cruising to Warnemunde but you have not suggested it. A little further than Gustrow etc but worth the train journey??

We arrive at 8am on a Monday and like to see and learn about interesting history and local animals rather than sitting and relaxing.

Thanks
