Getting to the port from the airport- options?

We're sailing from Southamton on Princess. I've read that it's a long trip from the airport to the port.

 

Is it best to buy the cruise transfers (per TA $69 each way/pp) or is there another option like a train, cab or something? There is four of us.

Which airport are you flying into?

I don't know, what ever one Princess picks since they are doing the air. Do they use one specific one?

By public transport, you'd want the National Express coach from the Central Bus Station at Heathrow, or the Southern Railway train from Gatwick. Each goes to its respective station at Southampton, from which it's a short taxi journey to the dock. There are many threads on this forum about both of these options, if public transport would be suitable for you.

As someone mentioned, which airport is a good question. London has FIVE.

 

Oh, and there's an airport in Southampton too... If the cruise line allows you to pick your flights, trying flying into SOU directly (you'll have to change via AMS or CDG)

Well since we wouldn't know the airport until about 60 days prior to the trip (Princess Air) - we just got the transfers from them. Thanks for the info!

 

I checked on the Southamton flights - we would need to change planes 2 times instead of just 1 time. The less changes, the more likely our luggage will arrive with us!!
