spindrift Posted May 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2008 Is anyone aware of any ships sailing to the Canal or new itineraries from Galveston? Carnival and RCCI already sail from Galveston, but we would like to see more choices. Also, is anyone aware of when cruise ships (and who) might be sailing from the new Bayport Terminal outside of Houston? That would be a great location for many. Rare Host Kat Posted May 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2008 ... Also, is anyone aware of when cruise ships (and who) might be sailing from the new Bayport Terminal outside of Houston? ... No definite news to date, but we locals do keep track of all we hear or see in print on the thread titled Houston building a "state of the art" cruise terminal?? spindrift Posted May 7, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted May 7, 2008 The new terminal is beautiful, and I would sure like to see it put to good use. We have followed that construction closely. I guess the travel up the channel is an issue. Anyway, do keep us informed. Glad to see you are nearby as well.
Rare Host Kat Posted May 7, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2008 ... I guess the travel up the channel is an issue... Yeah, but I think it would be a lot shorter than that loooooong trip down the Mississippi from New Orleans to the Gulf! Oh well, at least the casino was open when I took that trip! Voyager has a few sailings with a different itinerary in the fall (can't remember, but I think it's in 09). You could do a back to back with different ports. I loved our Panama Canal sailing in 04 on Galaxy. It had great ports.
clearlakecruisers Posted May 8, 2008 #6 Share Posted May 8, 2008 Carnival recently announced a new itinery for Conquest out of Galveston - 7-days including Key West, Freeport and Nassau with several sea days. We just signed up for that cruise for March '09 - our first trip on Carnival.

Debe7ing Posted May 11, 2008 #13 Share Posted May 11, 2008 What I would give for the good old days when there were 4 different lines and I think a total of 6 different ships sailing from Galvestion...NCL, Princess, Carnival (4, 5 & 7 day) and RCCL. It is not like they don't sail full either...I read an article that said that they had GREAT response to this port since folks were shying away from air travel after 9/11. Thanks those of you watching and reporting to those of us waiting for the good news!

GORDONCHICK Posted May 12, 2008 #15 Share Posted May 12, 2008 Our first cruise was on Galaxy out of Galveston - 12 day partial transit of the Panama Canal. That's when we fell in love with cruising.
epi Posted May 24, 2008 #16 Share Posted May 24, 2008 maybe just maybe .... the bayport cruise terminal is what RCI ( Voyager) is waiting on for a full time post.... I have heard cruises could be sailing as early as 2009 and RCI and NCL are both rumored to be interested... I also heard that there could be announcements as early as June 2008.... Lets just all pray.... I am hoping this is what Voyager is waiting for.... I have flown to Miami ( FOS ) last year and this year we are flying to LAX>>... I can't afford the luggage charges now....
