Why...WHY can't I find a job to pay for my next Carnival cruise??? Why won't you hire Mr. Future Employer? I'm skilled...I can do lots of stuff...I'll give you plenty of advance notice that I'm sailing away. Heck...I'll even bring you a souvenier! Can't you see? I'm having serious towel animal withdrawls...DH refuses to learn how to make them & insists that I can make my own bed every day....*sob*...I miss you, you beautiful red, white & blue funnel....oh....OH....Carnival, can you hear me??? WHY?!?!?!:( :( :(

I'm going back to be with my stolen blue Carnival beach towel wrapped around me and my hot ping drink of the day cup clasped in my hands....maybe when I wake up, I'll be on a cruise, or booked at least!:D

I feel you. It's tough out there. I was fortunate to land something pretty quick after my company shut down last October. However, my partner is the primary wage earner of the household. In 2006, we went on the Grand Princess and he was laid off after 9 years the day we returned to work. Then, 2007, we went on Carnival Conquest, came home only to find his company was closing that day. Then, fast forward to 2008. We returned from our cruise on Voyager of the Seas and he was called in and laid off. LOL. Cruising is bad karma for him. Those were all in February so next year we switched to cruising in March. He has been lucky enough to be doing contract work for what he was making before.

I'm not sure what business you are in, but try the contract way if possible. There are little to no benefits, but pay is similar.

Poor guy!!!! I'm sorry...Maybe the switch to March WILL be good!!!:D

I do have excellent typing skills though!!! (courtesy of Cruise Critic, that is...:p )

I know exactly how you feel. I have a cruise booked for 12/1 and have no idea how I am going to pay for it. Construction here is dead. I'm old and have personality conflicts with employers, (they don't have personalities) so I have to be self-employed. I thought about selling my body, but Ginger D said that it is too late for that. It wouldn't be so bad if I could draw unemployment, but since I am in business, I'm not eligable. That just leaves one thing. Dump my wife of 37 years and find me a sugarmomma. Whoever said that money can't buy happiness doesn't know where to shop. ;)

I do feel badly for you. I, too, have been suffering. It's been over a year since I cruised. Keep looking, someone will hire you. There has to be a cruiser out there who needs someone to hire!

I definitely feel for you. It's rough out there. I know this probably isn't ideal, but have you tried getting work through a temp agency? A lot of times those jobs are converted into permanent ones. That's how I got my current job and I love it. Good luck out there! :)

I feel for you OP .. I would say save what you can book a 4 or 5 night cruise on one of the older ships in Nov or Dec when they are cheap.. I can also have you sneak in my luggage on one of my cruises this year and be my personal assistant.. JD

Maybe I won't have to dump the old gal after all. She came up with a plan. She said that I could sell some of my guns and a boat or two and that should keep the wolf away from the door for awhile. Now I need to figure out which guns or boats to sell and if I should do it online or maybe sell them on the streets.

Hey buddy, do ya need a gun? How about a watch or a 17' Nitro Bassboat? Riverboat?:D

OMG I thought it was only me! I've been out of work since last September. I've applied for over 200 positions and haven't landed many interviews, let alone a viable job offer. Highly skilled, well trained, awesome resume and can't get work. I knew it would take me some time but this is getting to be serious. My only solace is to spend time here on CC and dream of my next cruise.......in the meanwhile anyone have a need for a Macintosh integration specialist? HIRE ME so I can book my next cruise!!!!! Oh and pay my rent of course.

Hey girl,

Do not dispair. I found a 5 nighter out of Mobile for $239@. Go sell your pop cans, maybe a gold ring or 2 and book it for 12/1/2008. I know that I can eat $239 worth.:D

P.S. I am waiting for someone to start a Roll Call. The last time that I started one nobody, I mean NOBODY, would talk to me.

When I was out of work last year, I found something through a temp agency. It was only suppose to be for 2 months. 2 became 4. 2 months ago they started trying to justify me full time. I know this process takes a while but its making it through the channels. In the meantime I'm gaining experience and continuing to look for another full time position. In fact, I have another interview next week. Keep after the temp agencies they have to be needing good workers.

Good Luck to everyone.

A true Sugarmomma has domestic help to do that...:p

True, so true. This is exactly why we are debating on retirement in Mexico. Ginger D could have her maid/cook and I wouldn't have to do dishes. I think that this is a win win situation. To be honest, after 37 years with this woman, I don't want anyone else. I wouldn't want to train another one.

BTW, We have decided on Oaxaca, Oaxaca. Look that up in you atlas.

Hey Coolest, guess what?

We picked up 2 houses to build in the last 2 days. We started digging the basement on one today.:D Mobile, here I come.

Hey Clackey!

My DW & I are thinking of doing the same, but in the state of Colima, not Oaxaca.

I still have 7 years to go before I retire. I just keep looking at properties every time I cruise to Mexico. (I spent 8 1/2 years there as a young teenager).

I don't want my DW to ever have to wash another dish or fold another pair of pants etc!

Lee

Most of all, keep looking and keep your spirits up!

Hey coolestwife I can sympathize with you. I'm in Arkansas too. Jonesboro to be exact. My DF was lucky enough to snag a driving job in October, but most paychecks are gone before he even sees them. My dad is a contractor/jack of all trades/whatever he can get to pay the bills. He realized that last week he spent more on gas than he made.:mad: Our economy here has always been slump-ish, but its really hitting us hard right now.

Where exact are you in relation to Jonesboro? I work on the main campus as a student. A little birdy told me they may be hiring office workers pretty soon. That's one of the perks of being a student worker. They kinda forget you're there and discuss all the good gossip! :p

wow...that's scary! I worked at my job for 32 years and they are closing.

Last day is today! I have already been looking, only have applied for ten so far and nothing! I just need an office job. You would think that wouldn't be too hard to find with my experience !!! I just can't imagine applying 190 more times and not finding anything!!!! Especially as much as I NEED to cruise!!!!!
