We sail on the Glory Eastern in less than a week. DW would like to know..... Is there a really good place to buy a Coach or Dooney hand bag. We will be visiting Nassau, St. Thomas, And St. Martin.

I know they are more famous for knock-offs. BUT can you get a good deal on the real thing in any of the islands?

TIA!!

Thanks for the quick response. Thats what I was afraid of. Also not knowing how to tell the real deal from a good knock-off could really cost ya!

Thanks,

MANHATTAN.. (well it's an island..;) )57th St exactly.. There is Vuitton, Coach, etc

There were knock offs plenty in Puerto Rico and Tortola.. they were aweful! Plus it's not cool to buy the knock offs..

There is a Coach outlet in Puerto Rico

In St Maarten go to the French side, Marigot.. there is Vuitton as well as I believe Longchamps.. among others..

LOL No problem, enjoy your trip!

If you must purchase knock offs.. Canel Street (NYC) is the place to go.. they will no longer be on display you have to ask for them...but they usually want you to follow them through an alley into a back room, pretty scary if you ask me.. not worth it. I have seen police raid the counterfeit sellers.. they scramble like mice!

The best buys I have seen and purchased.. are for the (real deal) Longchamps bags.

Enjoy your cruse!

I've bought bags on Canal St. It's pretty freaky if you've never done it before. When we asked, they told us no, but then we walked a ways & they came looking for us. They took us straight back to a shop we had already asked about the handbags. There was a locked door built into the wall. The lady, my friend & I all went through that door into a small closet (empty). Then we went through another locked door into a back room that was floor to ceiling handbags or several varieties. The woman kept rushing us & talking to someone on the phone. She asked us if we were there with our husbands & if they were wearing white shirts/ties. We think that they must have been worried that they were cops. Anyway, once we made our selections, she put them into black garbage bags, tied them up & told us not to open them until we were away from the shop. Supposedly, the vendors are the ones who get in trouble for selling the handbags, no the buyers. Honestly, I have no clue if our handbags are fakes or the real thing. I'm not a fashion maven, so all I cared about was finding a cute purse for me & my daughters. My friend also got a Rolex watch. That was another adventure where we were taken around the corner to a person that had them inside his jacket. It was a great adventure!

I've done this Eastern Route before a few times. St.Martin has a Coach Store on the main street on the Dutch Side. I bought a wallet and purse from there the last time I was in St.Martin and I've not had any problems with my items. Hope this helps!

There are also designer stores in Nassau as well. A block and half over from where the ship docks.

Trust me.. the better designers do not sell in back rooms and wrap the bags in black baggies LOL

Buyers will not get hassled but the sellers will.. unless you are purchasing bootleg DVD's .. if the cops come around DROP EVERYTHING AND RUN lol

Boy were you taken!!

Hi Krooz

Why do you say that? Coach is not really an expensive product and it is slightly less in St Maarten especially now that the dollar is doing so poorly

But one can do better at a Coach outlet...:)

There is a Louis Vuitton store @ the port in St. Thomas opposite of Havensite; starting price is over $800.00 for a small bag. We bought a larger fake in St. Maartin for $40.00 and couldn't tell the difference. Also there were some fakes in St. Thomas in the craft market area.

LOL! Reminds me of the first time I walked into one of those store fronts..a woman talking to the wall...the wall opening...a woman coming out from behind the wall, and both of them running out of the store...the operator asking me if I wanted to go in...What are you nuts! I watch Law and Order! My friend and I bolted, only to find out later what was really going on...not some white slavery ring, just knock off purses. How embarrassing. Guess I'm really just an upstate girl who shouldn't go down to the city without an escort :o

I would recommend that you doublecheck whatever you do to verify that your things are genuine..

If you attend the shopping talks offered on board, they can tell you where to buy the "real" stuff.

Know what you want, what the US price is and what the real thing looks like. Caveat Emptor in all ports.

At our new outlet mall (10 minutes from my house! :D), I've bought purses at the Coach outlet for $100 and $60 (small "going-out" purse), and a wallet to match the larger one for $60. Can't find anything close to that in port on a cruise that's legit! And even the fake ones aren't much cheaper than that. We also have a Kate Spade outlet where they average $150. LOVE the new outlet mall! (And so does DH, after his cheap shopping spree at Oakley!)

Know the retail price of ANYTHING you're shopping for on vacation. You'd be surprised how much of a bargain it really isn't.

Nothing funnier than being in Battery Park and having the guy with the "Rolex's" take off running when the patrol cars come around. I got a great one in Chinatown though!;)

There are websites out there that can give you good tips on spotting fake Louis' and other brands. Great info!

Being from San Diego, and close to the border; around here they're called "Rol-Mex's" ;)

Did you say Glory? If so we have wonderful outlet malls in Florida from Orlando down to Vero Beach and on the Miami. Coach, Burberry and more. There are only two LV outlets in our country and Florida does not have one.

If she wants to go for a unique bag try Chloe. I love them and they last forever.

Yes, it's time for my monthly lecture about handbags in the islands. ;)

They aren't knock-offs. They're counterfeit.

Knock-offs happen - legitimately - all the time in fashion. It's why we "normal" people can afford stylish clothes. Companies modify designer clothing and make it at an affordable price.

Counterfeit clothing and bags are a whole 'nother story.

Please do NOT buy them. But if your darling teenage daughter just HAS to have one, please explain to her about counterfeits, how they're illegally made by children in sweatshops. That should impress her.

OK, off my soapbox!

If you do a Google search, you can easily find all the Coach store locations. I know there's one in Nassau.

I buy my bags at an outlet store. I don't need the latest style or color. I have gotten some very nice bags at very reasonable prices.
