Flotsam Posted April 11, 2004 #51 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Reality Check: There are so many large microwave ovens running at the same time (near meal-time) on most cruise ships; its a wonder that they don't have to post a large sign near the food prep area warning those cruisers who have pacemakers! So, you when you cruise you often eat some "TV dinner-like" components, along with some freshly cooked foods in the dining room. And yes, make sure you are seated; some of the food they serve us may actually be frozen or come out of cans, jars, boxes and plastic bags! How absolutely dreadful. What do you suppose happens in many fine restaurants these days? Its all made from scratch. Right! All that having been said, describing the concept, and secret preparation of, the famous "Ranch Steaks" is quite another thing! puppy02878 Posted April 11, 2004 #52 Share Posted April 11, 2004 To Fireguy 091: We did the Serenade in Oct.Around the same time as you did. we will be back on her June for Alaska.Just hope the Vision Cruise was a Fluke! Whenever there are a lot of kids on the Cruises do they tend to slack off on the quality.
Rare Hlitner Posted April 11, 2004 #53 Share Posted April 11, 2004 We never noticed any change in food quality in Europe as opposed to the Caribbean. My only problem with the European cruises was that there were a lot more smokers on the cruises and RCI used to allocate more smoking tables in the lounges (this may or may not still be true). KShea Posted April 11, 2004 #55 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Puppy....what ship were you on...the SS Minnow? TV dinners...c'mon...you have to be kidding. Fireguy...I couldn't agee with you more about the food...mass produced...I think its great. I can't imagine a better time on a vacation. If it were as bad as people here describe it I would never cruise on RCI again..... I think...( my own opinion ) that the people who say they have been cruising all these years and the food has gone down hill are all just getting older and more finicky....again, just my opinion. You cannot make some happy and that is all that there is to that. The service in my cabin on the last cruise was excellent. I thought the steward was a ghost. I don't know how he did what he did so fast. Just one last thing...if you don't like the cruise line...don't sail it. That is the best way to have them make changes.....peace Explorer Of The Seas 4/01 Navigator Of The Seas 6/14/03 Mariner Of The Seas 7/11/04 Until the Mariner of the Seas <applet code="countdown.class" CODEBASE="http://*************/java-sys" width="203" height="25"> <param name="font" value="lcdb0"> <param name="year" value=2004> <param name="month" value=7> <param name="day" value=11> <param name="hour" value=12> <param name="minute" value=30> </applet> Go NY Jets
Lynnees Posted April 11, 2004 #56 Share Posted April 11, 2004 kshea - You end your comments with peace, but preface it with rude comments. I don't think I get your point. Opinions are just that, opinions, however your opinion wasn't much seeing as you choice to second guess what someone else was saying/thinking. You are entitled to your opinion, so is everyone else. You just arn't entitled to put down someone elses opinion just because it doesn't agree with yours. I happen to think TV dinners are crap, and I'm not paying as much as I do to sail to have TV dinners put in front of me. Lame excuse - mass produce. Getting older hasn't a darn thing to do with expecting better. But, again, it's a rude comment from you. You have your opinion and so does everyone else. Doesn't make them/us wrong and you right. srphnx Posted April 11, 2004 Author #57 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Ok... sorry folks as the OP, all I wanted was to find out if there were new charges i.e. the johny rockets thing. I get the general vibe that there are some loyal RCI cruisers who are happy and some that feel the recent changes haven't been improvments. OK. I have quite a few RCI cruises and if I don't mind paying $4 for burger that is free on other lines I will have more. I will tell you that there is a bit of a negative feel to the RCI board, sorry for those of you trying to get through it, sorrier for those of you inclined to feel that way. KShea Posted April 12, 2004 #59 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Marilyn....I happen to think TV dinners are crap also. What I'm saying is that for the amount of money you spend for a cruise the food is excellent. I'd really like to know where all the complainers are eating....it must be something special. I don't know why you seem to think this was directed at you. If people don't want to pay the $25 bucks at Chops or Portofino's don't go there....If you think the cruiseline is nickle and diming you go to another company. I'm not saying people can't have an opinion just saying that if you post it here you must want others to read it....and respond. We all have choices.....this is directed at no one in particular...peace Explorer Of The Seas 4/01 Navigator Of The Seas 6/14/03 Mariner Of The Seas 7/11/04 Until the Mariner of the Seas <applet code="countdown.class" CODEBASE="http://*************/java-sys" width="203" height="25"> <param name="font" value="lcdb0"> <param name="year" value=2004> <param name="month" value=7> <param name="day" value=11> <param name="hour" value=12> <param name="minute" value=30> </applet> Go NY Jets
abridalmaven Posted April 12, 2004 #60 Share Posted April 12, 2004 KS I agree wholeheartedly. But I will take ot one step further. In the last several years some of the microwave ( as opposed to the original tv) dinners have vastly improved and their are even gourmet versions. So again food is so very subjective. I have been to dinner with other couples and one set thought it stunk and the others loved it, so I never take anyones elses opinion on food seriously. And the same goes for movies , I never agree with those reviews either My vacation pics http://community.webshots.com/user/abridalmaven Norwegian Dawn May

Nancyquilts Posted April 12, 2004 #62 Share Posted April 12, 2004 There was no charge at dinner for 2nds, 3rds, or 4ths (as one man at our table had) on Brilliance last week. The lobster was pretty good, but quite small. Nancy
Rare OceanCruise Posted April 12, 2004 #63 Share Posted April 12, 2004 For those of us who can only cruise in the summer, and especially from the NY ports, prices have continued to climb, not decrease. Perhaps if I could get those rock bottom prices that people talk about duing the off season then I wouldn't mind the nickle and diming. However, after 6 years of cruising in the summer, prices have escalated across all lines with the resulting product diminishing.

Rare xpcdoojk Posted April 12, 2004 #65 Share Posted April 12, 2004 OMG, has this silly topic come back. I am pretty sure that we can debate this until the end of the world, and even if the food was markedly different, the debate would continue. jc
Kapeluza Posted April 12, 2004 #66 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I was just on the Navigator. I don't mind having to pay for sodas. I don't care for Chops or Portofinos.... They had good enough food at dinner for me (why pay extra duh). I had a wonderful time and I would go on the Navogator in a heartbeat. Just because they are charging for JR.... come on.. I eat burgers all the damn time at home. Anyways I have a JR by my house no need to go eat burgers while on board....
