Hi Everyone!

What a long day and I am absolutely exhausted. I didn't have such a good day. I had to take my Mom down to Miami for a doctor's appointment. We were there at 1pm and I did not walk in my door until 7pm!! The good thing...my hubby felt sorry for me so when we walked in the door, he had dinner cooked and on the table. What a sweetheart!;) I never drive down to Miami much, it makes me too nervous and of course I got lost and we were a few minutes late for Mom's appointment. Mom won't drive on ANY highways so its all on me to take her down to Miami. Mom has this tumor near her right eye. This is the sad part.....Mom has had this for almost 5 years!! 5 years ago, doctors for sure thought it was cancer, but after a biopsy was done, they ruled out lymphoma. They called it a pseudo tumor. Over these past few years, they treated it with radiation and steriod injections. She has been back and forth for check ups, had cat scans and MRI's done, but her eye hasn't changed. Her right eye is droopy. At today's visit, the doctor suggested another biopsy because they are now thinking it maybe lymphoma since her eye hasn't responded to any treatments. This is not what we wanted to hear!:( The biopsy is schedule for Aug. 26th and I am sure for the next several months, I will be driving back and forth to Miami. I am alittle stressed out this evening...wish me luck and PLEASE do keep us in your prayers over the next few months. I REALLY need to cruise!!!!

Kathy

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Hopefully everything will work out, even though I know it's stressful right now. You are in our thoughts and prayers for sure. Keep us posted.

Good morning, Lifers!!!

Kathy - so sorry to hear about your mom and we will definitely keep her in our prayers.

BSQ - you are so right - these last two weeks have been neverending! And with no cruise on the horizon right now it seems even longer. You've got two years to work on BubbaQ. He'll come around and love it. DH is working on next year's vacation for us and so far he's picked a cabin in TN. I'm sure we'll have a great time but I'm really longing for a cruise to go with it. :( Especially since the cabin alone will cost as much as a cruise!

You could always put a countdown clock to a cruise in your siggy weather you actually book one or not. That way you could pretend and maybe Mike will get the hint.

Me too.....wish the week of the cruise went slow!!

David, I got your e-mail and I will touch base with you by Saturday. Meeting at Uncle Al's is fine. Kaitlyn's game starts between 6 and 6:30, hopefully it will start on time, but you know how that goes....when you have plans nothing seems to run on time. Lets keep our fingers crossed. See you Saturday...looking forward to it. Wish all of our "new lifers" friends could join us.:(

Kathy

Sounds good to me, looking forward to it

Kathy -- so sorry to hear about your mom. You all are in our thoughts and prayers! I can sympathize with those trips to Miami. I thought it was a confusing place. However, you do tend to get better treatment in the larger cities. When something goes wrong with anyone here, we always head to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. They have been fantastic! When my dad moved in with us, he had a droopy eye that was driving him nuts, so I had him at the Wilmer Institute which is a part of Hopkins. Unfortunately, the cancer got him before he was able to have his eye operated on. DH sees a specialist there on occasion for his neck/shoulder pain and my daughter sees a specialist there for her anemia.

Oh well, I must get back to planning my September trip with my sister. We have decided to take a road trip -- we are heading to Nashville and Memphis! Time for good old BBQ!! I had to go to Memphis on business one time, and a couple of us went to BB Kings in Memphis. It was a blast and the food was absolutely terrific! I want to go back for more!!!! Does anyone have any good places for dining in Memphis or Nashville??

Dafell -- sorry you did not win the lottery. I used to play when I worked and said it was my alternate retirement fund. Maybe I should start again!

A cabin in TN.......I have been dying to do that. We have talked about it so many times, but have never managed to do it yet. I thought it would be neat to get a bunch of friends together and rent a big cabin on top of the mountains.

We won't have much of a vacation next summer....in June we will be traveling up to NJ for my nephew's high school graduation and a week earlier it will be my sister's wedding. Hubby probably won't go because its not much of a vacation visiting my family, he thinks they are NUTS!

Daughter's sweet 16 will be in June also. 2010 seems so far away until our next cruise!

Thanks Sharon!;)

Miami is a confusing place. But, you are right, you get better treatment in larger cities. She has been getting treated at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute which is suppose to be one of the best in the world! The doctors have been great and so kind even though they told me yesterday that please allow 4 hours for each visit. After we were sitting in the waiting room for 2 1/2 hours, I asked the receptionist how much longer and she told me the appointments take 4 hours.....Mom forgot to tell me that part!:(

Poor Kaitlyn.....since I was in Miami yesterday, I had to make arrangements for her to get to cheer practice at the high school. I asked her coach if she could pick her up since she only lives a few blocks away. She said no problem. I asked her the night before, I called her in the morning to make sure it still was okay and Kaitlyn texted her at 2:15 to confirm things with her. Again, she said NO PROBLEM! Well, guess what??? Coach forgot all about Kaitlyn. She went to practice still not realizing she forgot to pick up Kaitlyn. During role call, coach realized she was missing a girl and then someone said KAITLYN! The rule is...if you are late to practice...you run a lap for every minute you are late. The Varsity coach told the JV coach since she forgot to pick up Kaitlyn, she must run 27 laps for Kaitlyn! I called the coach at 4:45 to let her know I was still stuck in Miami and asked her to bring Kaitlyn home. She told Kaitlyn, "Please don't let me forget you!" Then....Kaitlyn called me at 5:15 wondering where I was and I told her she was going home with the coach!! What a day...it was pretty funny though!:D The coach gets stressed out at times, she has 3 little ones at home so I am sure it gets hectic and you can't remember whos coming and going!

Well, hope you are having a good day...my car has been in the shop since Tuesday and now I am off to pick it up.

Chat some more later!

The Grand Canyon is awsome, We stayed on the north rim for 3 nights.

BSQ, thats funny that you mentioned Cancun. I was checking out places in Cancun to stay today. My wife and I went years ago, and I would love to go back with the kids. There is so much to do around the area.

If you need any info, e-mail me JJay. I've owned a timeshare there since I got out of college. I'd mention the number of years ... but I'm in age denial.. and with simple math y'all could figure out my age ... which would NEVER do! The trip Advisor Cancun forum is pretty active too.

We used to do the condo thing every summer when Cherise was little. When we would go down for short periods of time (4 days or less) we would always stay at the Dunes Manor Hotel. It's at 28th Street and the Ocean, one block from the end of the boardwalk. Every room is oceanfront and they have a big porch across the front with wooden rocking chairs. I've spent many a day out rocking and reading!! They have a good restaurant and tea every afternoon in the lobby area. It was owned by a little old lady who would show up for afternoon tea and she really kept the place nice. She died a few years ago, and it's been a few years since I've been there, so I would hope they have kept up the traditions! I'll see if I can find a link for you!

I just checked the website and it looks the same!!! I don't know how familiar you are with OC but there is a train the runs up and down the boardwalk in the summer, so you don't have to drive all the way down to where a lot of the attractions are.

I would also like to recommend a restaurant in Old Town Ocean City called Hannah's Marina Deck on the bay side on Dorchester Street. They always had wonderful seafood, and their coconut and blueberry muffins were to die for at dinner. :D

There are a million places there, but that hotel, and that restaurant were always on our list when we would go down there. I think I'm ready to go -- maybe I will talk DH into a weekend trip down there! Yes, perhaps I will! Let me know if you have any other questions!!

If you are going to be in AZ, we could plan a cruise out of Long Beach or San Diego. Both ports are fairly easy drives from AZ.

Thanks Maryland Lady. I'm going to print this out and make sure it's on our list of things to do if we decide to go (looks like we will at least go for a very long weekend but may decide to stay longer). From what I've researched looks like a very nice place!!!:D

I am not looking forward to planning Kaitlyn's sweet 16...a lot of work involved, but I will probably ask my sister-in-law for help. She helps me with every party I have had, she has great ideas too.

Yes, for sure we will meet again when I go back to NJ. Maybe we can meet up in Disney too if you guys win the Championships. Not sure about that one because we are spending Thanksgiving in Disney again this year. Oh...how I love that place! This will be our 4th Thanksgiving in a row at Disney. We always have such a blast.:D
