Help with shore excursions

First time visitor to Cartagena, George Town and Grand Turk on RCCL in November. Any advice on excursions to take that are not ship sponsored or should I stick to the ship? Is it safe to venture out alone? I'm a beach lover but history and culture are of interest. Shopping is fine but not tops on my list. Any help would be appreciated.

In GC, if all you want is the beach, (shopping is walkable right off of the tender dock) then just grab a cab/bus and go! No excursion needed for the beach! All of the beaches have rentals--watersport, chairs, umbrellas, etc... Restrooms and restaurants are plentiful right on the beach.

In GC, the most unique experience is to visit Stingray City. There are several good independent operators, or you can do it through the ship. You might be able to sign up in town, but I'd suggest picking a recommended operator in advance and booking with them ahead of time.

 

By the way, I'd suggest that you visit the forums for each port. You should be able to get much more good information there.
