Taxi Fare Monaco to Eze and return

Recommended Posts

We dock in Monte Carlo on Sunday, Sept. 7 at noon and leave at 11 pm. I am interested in knowing a typical taxi fare to Eze and if there is taxi availability to return to Monaco in the evening.

Also, how much is the train from Monaco to Eze?

Thank you all for your help.

Terri

I would love to know the answer to this question too, as I understand that the buses (which we plan to try to use) only run about every 90 minutes. If we miss one we would like to just grab a cab. Hopefully this question will stay at the top long enough for those that have been there done that to see the question and share their experience with us all.:)

We better keep it up there then as I would also like to know the answer. I have some friends who lived in Villefranche for three years and they told me if you just want to hang out in VF there is great Cafe, called Cosmo which you go to the right after you get off the tender (Voyager)

found this on the boards:

Here's what I've paraphrased from various sources and copied into our itinerary:

• If we have enough time, we might want to catch a bus from Monaco to Eze, a little French medieval walled village that looks like a movie set on the edge of a cliff about 5 miles west of Monaco. To get to the bus stop, walk north through the garden across the street from the Casino to a busy street with a large Tourist Information office – where we can also get our passport stamped with a souvenir Monaco visa stamp. Get a schedule for the buses and then go across the street from the Tourist Info office and walk up to the next street (Princess Charlotte Blvd?) to the bus stop. It's quite steep between this street and the casino, but there are elevators that go up to the higher streets. Be sure to have euro coins or small bills for the bus fare. Reportedly, many of the bus lines between Nice and Monaco do not run on Sunday – route #100 is probably the only option on Sundays, and it apparently runs every 20 minutes or so. Take a #100 bus from Monaco to Gianton and transfer to a #83 bus up the hill to Eze Village. Note that we’ll need to coordinate our #100 arrival and #83 departure times so we don’t have to wait too long for a #83 bus because #83's only run every hour or so. Don't confuse Eze sur bord with Eze the village – Eze sur bord is on the coast road at the bottom of the cliff along the sea and it is a steep 3 mile hike from there up to the village.

The following site has a map and timetables: http://www.lignedazur.com/ Choose "other direction" above the timetable to get reverse schedules. Click on the stop name (left hand column) to get a condensed schedule for the whole day, plus a link to other bus routes that stop there. Note that the timetable for #100 shows "CAP-D'AIL - Liberté" as the first/last stop. Monaco is 10 minutes from Cap d'ail. The schedules don't show the timetables beyond Cap d'ail, which makes looking at the timetable a little complicated. If you look at the map, you'll see that #100 goes to Monaco and beyond.

I found this in the another thread:

"Can't tell: we used Taxi for 35 EUR from Villefranche.

Sorry

HeinBloed"

The poster was referring to the trip Villefranche to Eze, I guess just one way, he didn't say.

It appears that the bus would require a long wait and the timetables are not that easy to understand. I don't even see Monaco listed on the timetable.

I am entertaining taking a taxi both ways, but can find little on their availability in EZE on a Sunday afternoon.

Do you know the cost of the train?

Are there any other options besides a very expensive limousine?

I did this last year, but we took a ships tour. A taxi from Monoco to Eze will be expensive. Once in Eze, we did not see a lot of taxis waiting. But there is a hotel in Eze, and a tourist center. I suspect they can call you a taxi if needed.

Good find on the bus info, lilrainy! It's in english!

We will be in Monaco on 10/1 and also want to do Eze. If you note on the map the gray arrows for the 100 and 102 lines both proceed to Monaco and Beausoleil. I found two more websites - one for Eze - http://www.eze-riviera.com/emotions/deplacement/bus.htm that shows a timetabe for bus 112 from Monaco or Nice to Eze and one from the RCA - Rapides Cote d'Azur - http://www.rca.tm.fr/plan/index.asp?rub_code=6 the line 100/112 bus company that shows stops in Monaco - apparently near the Casino (in French). It looks like the 112 would be the one to take for getting up to the village.

The number 112 doe NOT run Sundays. i saw the bus website and that's what is prompting me to ask how much the taxi costs.

Hi, Terri-

I checked out the train, but near as I can tell, it runs down along the coastline and Eze is up on the cliff above, a long uphill hike. As I see it, the best alternative for a Sunday is to catch the #100 bus (also runs along the coastline) from Monaco to Gianton and transfer there to a #83 bus up the hill to Eze Village and then return the same way. Re-read the following from a post above -- it was cut from an earlier post I had made from info I had gathered for my itinerary notes:

Our cruise will arrive Villefranche on Sunday. Do anybody know if I could go directly from the port to Eze by bus or I must go to Nice?

I would also like to visit Monaco, should I make it Villefranche - Eze - Monaco - Villefranche OR Villefranche - Monaco - Eze to Villefranche?

Thanks for help in advance

Dog Bear: We went from VF to Eze to Monaco by bus, and returned to VF by train. To get to Eze, you'll need to either take the bus to Nice and then transfer to one to Eze Village, or take bus #100 from VF in the other direction, to a stop that connects with #83 to Eze Village. (we did the latter).

The site that you gave the link to has a "Plan your Trip" feature that is very helpful. http://www.lignedazur.com/ri/index.asp?rub_code=4&comDep=6159&comDep2=&numDep=&keywordsDep=&pointDep=&comArr=6059&comArr2=&numArr=&keywordsArr=&pointArr=&typeDate=68&laDate=24%2F08%2F2008&lHeure=2&laMinute=20&leMeridien=PM&critereRI=2&laction=&clear=

Choose your departure and arrival towns (Villefranche Sur Mer and Eze) and your stops (Octroi for VF, and Eze Village for Eze). To access the names of the stops, click on "List of Stops" then the corresponding letter in the alphabet index at the top. Three departure times will show up, and if you click on "see details" it will describe the route. Clicking on "previous solutions" or "next solutions" will give you earlier and later departure times.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for your information. It is very useful.

I think the line should be #82 instead of #83. Please correct me if it is not.

So my destination should be Eze Village, not Eze Plateau de la Justice, is that right?

If going from Eze to Monaco, what should I type for the arrival port because I could see Monaco in the list.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Best regards,

Cecilia

Hi Cecilia,

#82 goes from Nice to Eze Village (and not sure where it goes from there?) It goes on the middle corniche (middle road) which Eze Village is on.

#83 goes from Eze Bord du Mer (on the lower road) up to Eze Village and Plateau de la Justice. (I think Plateau de la Justice is higher than Eze Village, but you'll know Eze village when you arrive.) So, #83 would be the one that you would connect to if you took #100 from V.F. to Eze Bord du Mer.

Rick Steves has a map and explanation of the 3 corniches (lower, middle, uppper) in his guide book, France, Provence and the French Riviera (I was able to find it at my local library).

Have a look at Najnla's post above (last paragraph) for an explanation of the bus to Monaco ... it goes there, but is not on the schedule ... perhaps due to Monaco not being a part of France?

you can book train on rail europe from monaco to eze

$44.00 RT for 2 , going to research where trains leave and arrive in eze, or if anyone knows would appreciate info. train ride is 8 minutes

Loraine

The train runs alongside the ocean and the lower road, whereas Eze Village is higher up (on the middle road). The train will get you to Eze bord du Mer, but from there you would need to take a bus up to Eze Village.

P.S. the train or bus between Monaco and Eze Bord du Mer should only be a few euros each (probably less for the bus.)

We are going to be docking in Monte Carlo toward the end of October and have decided to rent a car via Hertz. It seems to be the most efficient way to get there and see any of the other small villages too.

I hope you're not there on a Sunday. Hertz will be closed. We tried to do this and could not. Many places want a 3 day minimum. Closest place to rent a car on a Sunday is the Nice Airport

I just took the train (from Villefranche). Got The round trip ticket of 4.80 EU to Monaco and back. Went to Monaco via train walked around and took th elocal bus for a little bit. Boarded the train back to Eze Bord de mer. Took the #83 bus up to the town (1 Eu both ways). Walked around for a little bit. Boarded the #83 back down to Eze Bord de mer and took the train back to Villefranche.

My family is on the NCL Gem on a Saturday in September. Soon! Can't wait! We are stopping in Villefranche and having to "tender" to the shore port docks. That will take time and so will the tender on the return. We dock at 8 am and leave at 3 (which means we need to shoot for 2 to be back on the ship). What can be seen in such a short time in such a beautiful area? I would love to see Eze but I am afraid that Nice may be all we are able to get to and back. We also noticed a rental car agency that is at the port area in Villefrance but they are French.....can you believe it, I am an American and I can't speak French! So, I have sent emails and called but no return messages from their end. I thought our party of 5 might be able to see a few things if we had the flexibility of a car. Are the trains reliable? Help!! Debbeck
