Anyone try Hawaii superferry for Island hopping?

Would love to hear from anyone who has done this. Many years ago there was a ferry that went between Honolulu and Kauai. We took that one and enjoyed it a lot. Hope you will get some replies here.

Better check their record of how often they are really running the ferry. We were there in January for three weeks, and think the ferry only ran about 5 times during that period. We saw it while we were in Maui, as it was leaving for its return trip to Oahu. We had friends who had reservations from Oahu to Maui and back, and they went to the pier for a 6AM departure, and it was one of the many times it didn't run!

I believe a ticket is around $50 pp. An airline ticket is around $69 and you can be at your destination in a half hour of flight time instead of spending a half day bouncing around on a ferry.

That's what we were told when we were there, too. I guess they also had problems with protesters.

They had a bad start but things have been going smoothly for a few months now.

 

My only word of advice is take sea sickness meds!! I mean A LOT of them.

 

Going 40 mph through rocky seas is a blast if you can handle it.

We are hoping this company can stay in business. It's a great alternative to the airport hassle. I do remember that on our trip from Honolulu to Kauai on the old ferry - many long years ago -that it WAS an exhilerating trip! During part of the time at sea we were the only ones on the open deck uptop. We thought it was a blast up there. Of course we were a LOT younger then. Taking meds is good advice, but if you know you are prone to seasickness it probably wouldn't be a lot of fun!

Yes, this was this last winter. This summer they have run every day.

Not sure what ferry you were looking at, but as Kapuna said the superferry hasn't been operational for the last few years.
