Just Back from the Miracle

Ok is there a pill for post cruise depression?

Here is an unbiased review of the Carnival Miracle. The embarkation process in Baltimore was a bit disorganized. I think this was due to a wedding party and about 25 travel agents touring the ship before we set sail. Not a big deal. The port of Baltimore is easy to get to and painless as it relates to dropping off passengers, luggage, parking the vehicle and catching a shuttle back to the ship from long term parking. Checking in with Carnival and taking our preverbal bon voyage photo was fast and painless. Please use the fun pass process. We were literally the first passengers on the ship (besides wedding party and travel agents) at 12:15. The ship is beautiful. The décor is tasteful and not overbearing. When I first walked on the thing that struck me the most is the ship does not have a lot of wide open space, including the atrium and the dinning room. Also I am used to a lot of floor to ceiling widows that are located on the sides of the ship. The only thing close to this is Horatios on the lido deck. Not a big deal just an observation. Otherwise the ship is beautiful and I particularly liked the visually stimulating aspect of the décor. Everyone knows the story about the dinning room and the skittles are not that bad.

We sat in the middle of the dinning room on the first floor (second ship floor). Our waiter Jorge was the best ever bar none. He was great with the kids (4,6,8) and we ate in the dinning room every night because of this. The food was average for crusie ships the steaks were above average. Everyone liked the dinning staffs dance routine each night. The buffets were average, however the grilled sandwiches, pizza, and ice cream were excellent.

Camp Canival is the best of all cruise lines that I have cruised on so far. The only complaint is the location, as far foward as you can get. This compounds the motion from any rough seas. More on rough seas later. My children always wanted to go to camp carnival the staff was excellent!

The entertainment was dissapointing. Everything was just ok nothing spectacular. Based on past cruises it was average to below average. The cruise director was below average as well. However, he was not on the PA system selling something every 5 minutes, that was nice. We did not feel like we were informed like on previous cruises and the carnival carpers was ok as well. It would have been nice to have a pocket guide listing the days activites. They do hand out a handy map of the ship.

The cabins are very roomy with a lot of storage space. The toilet had a sewer smell which supprised me on a new ship. Cabin stewert was good and the room service was quick, usually came within 15 minutes.

I was also disappointed in the music played in the public areas. I am used to a calypso band with steel drums etc. This was not existent.

The ride down to key west was very smooth you could not tell you were on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean. In fact the Atlantic literally looked like a lake. This goes for the Bahamas leg as well. Ok, I am not exaggerating about the next part. The seas from Freeport to Baltimore were extremely rough. The worst I have ever experienced. This is the first time the crew admitted that the seas were rough. If fact I would say a least a quarter of the crew was sick and probably three quarters of the passengers. It was rough for 30 hours... 30 straight hours! Pretty much our last day at see was lost. Luckly no body in my party got physically sick. But there were plenty of passengers and crew that did not make it to the bathroom … enough said.

Due to the rough seas we were late getting to Baltimore. We arrive at 10:00 AM and we left the ship at 2:00 PM. I am not a happy camper but what can you do, it is not Canivals fault. We were in our van and driving home at 2:30, not bad.

Would I travel on the Carnival Miracle again? ...

This is Derf. My DW and I were on this cruise also. This was our first Carnival cruise after three Princess Cruises.

We were with our friends who had a seeing eye dog, so we were able to get off earlier. We got off at 12:45PM. We then had to find our luggage ,wait on line for a porter , have it loaded on a the bus which then took us to to the parking lot. The parking lot spaces are not marked so we spend another 10 minutes looking for our car. We finally left the area about an hour later, 1:45 PM.

My DW expected a roudy crowd because of "Carnival's Fun Ship Reputation". She was so wrong. We met CLE-B from this board and had lunch with her and her husband , joined by their friend, whose husband was seasick.

Unlike Cessna150, we liked the CD. He had a warped sense of humor which seemed to go well with ours.

The Buffet was better then any Princes ship we have been on. There were so many different types of food to choose from.

The Las Vegas type shows were outstanding. There were only two of them. The last night there was supposed to be a comedian and singer. They said they did not make the ship in Freeport. I think because of every body being sea sick, they may have been on board but not in good condition. There was only about 50 people at the late show. The crew director and staff put on the show themselves and it was very funny.

The cabins were extremely large compared to the Princess ships we have been on. My DW was extremely suprised about the size of the bathroom and shower. We had a balcony on the 4th deck aft. It was wonderful.

Since we were traveling with our friends and the seeing eye dog, special arrangements had to be made about the dog's bathrooming habits. It all worked out well and all the crew wanted to pet the dog since they missed their own pets at home.

We did many activities and were all over the ship. We played trivial, sang in Sam's Piano bar, visited Frankie and Johnny's Lounge , had Tea at the Jeeves Lounge, had the entertainment at the Phantom Lounge ( Floor Shows etc.), lost money at the Casino, attended the Art Auction in the Mad Hatter Lounge.

We had dinner at Nick & Nora's Supper Club to celebrate our friend;s bithrday.. This is the specialty restaurant. It is $25.00 per person. They had music and a singer as well as dancing area. We have something like it for $125.00 on land. There are Five courses. For starters some people had Escargots, or caviar , shrimp cocktail ( with Prawn size shrimp), and lobster bisque. ( There were only 4 of us and the dog, who only ate dog food, no table scraps).

The next course was 3 different types of salads. They prepared the Caeser Salad in front of us at the table.

Then came side dishes.

The Entrees ranged from 24 oz Porterhouse steak, to Veal Chops, Surf & Turf Lobster tails and many other things I have forgotten.

The deserts were fantastic but we had ordered a birthday cake for our friend so they insisted that we take samples of the deserts to our cabin.

If you want a copy of the entire menu please e-mail me at FSBSDE@Yahoo.com, and if you give me a few days, I will scan a copy of the menu into my computer. As far as we are concerned this was our best dinner. I don't know why the place, which has two levels, but had only 10 diners, was not used more.

If I get a chance tomorrow, I will try to write about the tours we took.

We sailed on the Miracle from Baltimore this past May and absolutely loved everything about it. Granted, this was our first cruise and didn't have anything to compare it too, we still had no complaints. We were the last group to be called off the ship on debarkation, but hey, who cared...we enjoyed having brunch before we left :)

We were also on the 10/17/04 sailing. Hi Fred & Barbara. We were very pleased with the whole experience of the Miracle. She is a very different ship, after all the comments made about the decor, I didn't know what to expect. I liken her to a new Las Vegas Casino/Hotel. The detail put into the public areas is just amazing. Beautiful. The food and service were outstanding. We also did Nick & Nora's for dinner, and it was worth every penny of the $25 charge! The lunch buffet is fanastic. You really need to walk the whole buffet area before you start chosing your items. In our seven days we didn't get to sample everything!

The crew seemed to be very happy and this carried over the whole ship. We would jump at sailing the Miracle again. We are booked on the Valor in January and just can't wait! Mary

Did this ship have the Asian Corner in the buffet area. The pride had this area which served very good chinese food and also sushi every day at lunch time. Was the Bacchus Dining room still gaudy looking? Was told it was being changed from it's original look.

Thanks,

Barry

Sound like that low pressure that was hanging off the coast did a job on the seas for both the Miracle and the Legend. It is only beginning to head east.

We will be on the Miracle on 11/07/04 celebrating our 40th anniversary. Thirteen more days. Wow, we signed up about 18 months ago, and it is finally almost here. We are doing the doc dance, packing, and patiently ( well maybe not ) waiting until we can sail out of Tampa on her.

hey sounds like you had a good time. what were the ages of the people on the ship? we're hoping it's full of hot 18-21 year old women :D

You sound like fifty plus creep that stalked my daughter and her friends on our Fascination cruise 4 years ago. Face it mister these young women are not interested in you and if you are not careful you will be reported.

You might want to check the person's profile before ripping on somebody. According to his profile, Mr. Beepers is 18. Lighten up.

Do you know this person? His profile indicates he is just barely 19 years old. He has a whopping total of 5 posts on this board. None of those posts gave me the impression that he was a fifty-something creep. If being 19 and being turned on by 18-21 year old women was a crime, I would have gone to jail at age 19.

I am not into checking profiles- but that was definetly a sexist comment. Someone needs to teach him what is good to say on a public messageboard. I sure would not wanting him or his type oogling my daughter.Posts like that is what gives Carnival a bad name .

I like Carnival and I hate Carnival gets such a bad rap from posts like that. Just the thing that those RCCL loyalists like to jump on.

Anyway if my post was so terrible why did you not just "report" me and have it removed? You could also e-mail me. My e-mail is in my profile.

Help me out here. A young single guy asks about the availability of young single women on a cruise and you find that sexist and the reason that Carnival get's a bad rap? Do you really think that the same NORMAL people would not cruise on RCCL? If anything, your post is what gives gives Carnival a bad name. And what makes you so sure that your daughter wouldn't be a charmed by a NORMAL person like the one that you seem to think is some kind of pervert? And why didn't I report you? Because my mom taught me that most people are good at heart and are worthy of trust until proven otherwise. My e-mail is in my profile as well.

MOMOFMEG:

I am confused by two things..why would it automatically be assumed that someone was a 50 something pervert when asking about 18-21 year old girls and how is asking that question sexist? Anyone who has 18-21 year olds of either sex knows that the main thing on their mind is 18-21 year old of the opposite, so no disrespect intended but IMHO this poor guy got jumped on for being in the majority. I think lightening up a bit is in order here. If your daughter were on here asking about 18-21 year old guys would you want someone to assume she was Mary Kay Letorneau? Perverts come in both genders! So if anything was sexist it was lumping all perverts into the male category. By the way I am a 43 year old woman if you are wondering.
