Caribbean Princess in NY today

I guess the CB had to come back early because of the tropical storm, but do you think the passengers are allowed to stay on board until tomorrow?

Krooz cam shows it alongside NY now, but wasn't due in until tomorrow. I just found it odd considering they can't open the shops or casino.

Anyone know?

I read on another post that they can get off and do whatever they want today. But they can't take their luggage off until tomorrow cause they have to go thru immigration. The early return is weather related.

I would rather see them safe in port than being out on the water in this storm. I'm on the shore in NJ and it's not real pretty right now. I can imagine it wouldn't have been very smooth out on the open sea.

My parents are on the ship and they called me yesterday from Boston to let me know that it had been announced that they would be skipping Newport and sailing straight through to NY due to the weather. As it turned out they left something like 3 hours late from Boston which would have impacted the time in Newport anyway (especially since it is a tender port). The reason for the delay at the time was due to a medical emergency. On the live from the CB post it mentioned that someone had died.

Just spoke to my parents on the ship and they said today was a total waste. When the ship got to NY, there were no taxis or shuttles to take people anywhere. You would think that since Princess knew a day in advance that they would be arriving in NY early, they might have arranged to have taxis or shuttles available to take people into the city. Since most people were literally stuck on board they had to open up a second dining room to accommodate everyone for lunch.

I love sea days, I'm sure they had extra things going on. Just being on the ship would have been great for me. I never would have felt stuck.

I am afraid that when these people get off of the ship and some might do a review of this cruise there is going to be a lot of griping, holloring, etc about missing Newport and coming in a day early. Mark my words, griping is coming. My gosh the Captain is trying to keep the passengers safe and sound due to the horrific weather.

Just like on the Carnival board, they even made the news!!! Not sure what people expect when they sail during Hurricane season:confused:

Those people who will do the bulk of the complaining are also the ones who would have been the first to sue the cruise line had they stopped at the scheduled port of call and gotten hurt.......I can't believe they made us stop there and in that weather.....what were they thinking.......blah,blah, blah.......

I think this is a great way to handle the weather problem--an extra day in New York with hotel and meals paid for (by staying on ship) would be a great port of call--can sightsee, shop, see a show, museums, ballgame, etc. I'm doing a pre-cruise stay in New York for a couple of days and have been there before, but there's always more to see in New York.

Unfortunately, according to one poster, nobody could sightsee, shop, see a show, museums, ballgame, etc. because there were no cabs or other transportation available at the cruise terminal.

But, they could continue to enjoy their time on the ship.

Princess could have put a dispatcher there for people who were interested in grabbing a cab into Manhattan!

As previous posters have said, we had nearly perfect weather on our 8/24-8/31 cruise. The only less than optimal day was in Newport where it was raining and overcast. I also love sea days and would have loved to have another one although I can understand why people would have wanted access to transportation in NYC if they had to come back early. Newport was also our least favorite port and Bar Harbor was our favorite.

It was pouring rain here in NY yesterday from Hanna - they couldn't have done a lot except doing something indoors anyway. Too bad everyone didn't have the number for Aceribo - they could have called them to pick them up.

I was on the ship the week before and even though it rained in newport, we walked around the town and met some wonderful locals. The shops were great and everyone was friendly. A little rain can't hurt anyone. As for the ship coming in a day earlier this week, if people wanted to get off the ship they certainly could have called a cab themselves, you know cell phones do work in New York, or even get out with an umbrella and walk 3 blocks to the bus stop which will take you anywhere in the city for as little as $2.00. Anyone who wants to can find a way to have a good time under any conditions.

I agree, no excuse for not getting out and going somewhere.

My understanding is the ship got in during the early evening when the rain was at it's hardest. Bear in mind Princess uses the Red Hook Brooklyn terminal not Manhattan. The pier is in an industrial area, nowhere near any of the NY tourist areas. Unless you knew where you were going, trying to find a bus stop or subway station in a desolate area in the rain would not be a very wise choice. I've lived in the NY Metro area my whole life and know my way around the area very well. Regardless, I would not attempt to do it on foot.
