morecruise4me Posted January 12, 2009 #77 Share Posted January 12, 2009 We aren't big drinkers, either. DH usually has a couple of beers on a cruise, and I have to have the fruity drink with the umbrella (virgin or light) but other than that, we stick to tea, coffee, water, and lemonade. Our bar tab is almost non-existant. We don't drink at home and we don't do it away from home. A cruise is fun enough...I'd rather spend the money on another great excursion! WISH84 Posted April 13, 2009 #78 Share Posted April 13, 2009 I read every single one of these posts. Why? Because on all the cruises I have been on, I have been one of those who find the occassion of a cruise to drink as much as I want (or not) but for the most part, find myself drinking plenty. Coffee and Bailey's in the morning. Bloody Mary's with Breakfast. Bucket O'Beers at the pool. Drinks at the Black Jack Tables, Wine with Dinner and Scotch at the Piano Bar. Yup... Until this upcoming cruise. So on July 25th when we sail out of New Orlean's on the Fantasy... the entire trip will be alcohol free. I will be sure to respond again after that cruise to tell you all of cruise and how it went and what I learned or remembered that I didn't know or remember before. "I didn't know you had to go to Muster!!!" kidding of course! :)
robvan Posted April 15, 2009 #79 Share Posted April 15, 2009 I am not a big drinker. Had too many of those days on end hangovers, and especially when the kids came along, just way too hard to get up in the morning with a baby. Anyway, I did enjoy the rum punch on the snorkel excursion last year in Antigua. And I like a DOD, and I did enjoy a mojito last time, and oh heck, why not. michiganirish Posted April 15, 2009 #80 Share Posted April 15, 2009 we're not big drinkers but do get one for the sailaway then an occasional beer before dinner with small snack - we usually travel alone so we go to late dinner - i shamelessly admit the $$ not spent on board drinking = $$ in the jewely shops on the islands.....:D
jerseytomato Posted April 15, 2009 #81 Share Posted April 15, 2009 I may have 1 or 2 drinks during the entire 7 day cruise (a gin and tonic can be so refreshing, I think) but I'm way past the days of thinking that being drunk is fun (oh the college years). Plus I've developed allergies to several different types of liquor so I really need to be careful about what is in those fun mixed drinks. I'm glad to see there are so many others who aren't into drinking. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one without a cocktail in my hand.
snoopymcc Posted April 15, 2009 #82 Share Posted April 15, 2009 Hello to all! We don't drink, smoke or gamble (due to our faith); I don't have any problem at all with others doing so. I do need my tea and hot chocolate, though! I used to be a psychiatric technician. What I saw and dealt with as a psych tech really turned me off alcohol and gambling; it can be a very slippery slope... I was very impressed that there were AA meetings on Carnival Triumph. I can see how working, or traveling for that matter, on a ship would be a very challenging place to maintain your sobriety. We also do not drink, smoke or gamble...hoping we will still have a good time!
tgptmp Posted April 15, 2009 #83 Share Posted April 15, 2009 My wife and I will have a couple of drinks on a cruise. We are suckers for the sail away drink, especially if the glass is a keeper. My wife will order a bottle of wine in the dinning room, the ship will store it for her and she will have a glass each night at dinner. Drinking is not worth the price on a ship. At home though, a six pack of beer will last me a month. Two big benefits of not being big drinkers... 1. Small bill at the end of a week. 2. We remember all of the cruise. castawaymam Posted April 22, 2009 #85 Share Posted April 22, 2009 Being 4'11'' at 115 lbs, it doesn't take that much to get me tipsy, that being said, I will have one or two drinks(weak) 2 to 3 times a year if that sometimes once a year.
Iceman's Mum Posted April 26, 2009 #86 Share Posted April 26, 2009 Interesting. DH and I don't drink much either - maybe a glass of fizz at the Captain's "do" and perhaps one drink of the day - sometimes to get the glass, sometimes not. My vice is tea and fresh orange juice. I've read on these threads that the orange juice is free on the Caribbean cruises. Well on Mediterranean cruises I have had to pay anything up to 6 dollars for a glass at breakfast! Disappointed with that. Don't go to the Casino at all - nor the gym. Just relax and chill! :p
mdreher2 Posted May 9, 2009 #87 Share Posted May 9, 2009 My family of 4---myself, husband, and two daughters--19 and 24 don't drink at all. But we're the first up on the dance floor and the first to participate in everything. (husband and I did all of our drinking in our younger days...) Not drinking has never stopped us from having fun, and it sure helps with getting up the next morning, keeping the final bill down, and remembering everything! My husband and I also are not drinkers. We sometimes get the drink of the day (virgin) at sailaway and maybe one other during the week. As you stated not drinking has never stopped us from having fun....but I still can't seem to remember everything  ::D
HinesL Posted May 13, 2009 #88 Share Posted May 13, 2009 My DH doesn't drink at all. I may have one in the evening at the show or just visiting with a friend who we travel with in the evenings. We don't drink at all at home.
TheDMan Posted May 14, 2009 #89 Share Posted May 14, 2009 In my younger days I liked to drink, but now I'm older and hangovers hurt way too much. On our Honeymoon I think I probably had 5 drinks the entire 7 day cruise.
shepherdqueen Posted May 14, 2009 #90 Share Posted May 14, 2009 I am allergic to alcohol. We had to contact the NCL and let them know as I cannot even eat anything that has been cooked with wine or liquor. DH may have an occasional drink - 4x a year is the max, so we will not be having a bar bill on this cruise.

cruiselife4me Posted May 15, 2009 #92 Share Posted May 15, 2009 I've never been a big drinker but now my stomach doesn't let me. No idea why but I've found it's just easier NOT to drink. Love the frozen drinks but just make them virgin! Hubby may have a bucket or two of beer max.

momofmeg Posted June 16, 2009 #95 Share Posted June 16, 2009 Some of that dyed pink sand from Bermuda. The real sand has bits of coral but is not nearly that pink. My daughter, when she was much younger tried to save a rum cake. I found it and threw it out about 2 years later!
Caribbean Sunsets Posted June 16, 2009 #96 Share Posted June 16, 2009 I rarely have a cocktail at home but do enjoy a frozen drink while on the cruise.

Roadtripster Posted June 18, 2009 #98 Share Posted June 18, 2009 Just got back from our week long trip and I didn't have a one drink. I didn't even buy a soda on board. I did buy 2 Mt. Dews on shore though and brought them back on board with me. DH only had a glass of wine every couple of nights at dinner. No soda for him either. Always stuck with the iced tea and lemonade. People still amaze me when they ask me "How do you have fun if you don't drink?".
fresnel468 Posted June 20, 2009 #99 Share Posted June 20, 2009 I engage in sampling tasty adult beverages as much and as often as I wish while on a cruise. Sometimes it's a lot - sometimes not much at all. Spirits only - no drink beer or wine for me.
UtterCaro Posted June 20, 2009 #100 Share Posted June 20, 2009 I'm not against drinking in moderation, but it just doesn't appeal to me much. I love to sip a sailaway mojito while I watch the land view change to an ocean one. Since I tend to book transatlantics, that happens infrequently. ;) Caro
