Solocruiser123 Posted July 15, 2016 #4852 Share Posted July 15, 2016 i just booked a deck 8, middle of ship balcony cabin for $ 557.00.....solo...great deal!! I've thought about booking this as well, but the Fathom is a different kind of ship. These are volunteerism type cruises. No casinos or big theater type production shows. My understanding is that once in port you head out with a group and do various volunteerism type things.
Sungold Posted July 16, 2016 #4853 Share Posted July 16, 2016 While I didn't focus on the ship details for the Fathom line, I did look at that wonderful deal but the timing wasn't good for me...I'll keep an eye out for future deals from them. But it was my understanding that the volunteer work was voluntary. Unless they make you sign something as a condition of booking, I don't see how they could force you to work. If you're a disabled senior citizen, what could they make you do? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

dswallow Posted July 17, 2016 #4857 Share Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) I just booked a "Large Ocean View" cabin on RCCL's Grandeur of the Seas, sailing from Baltimore, on 1/3/17, for 11 nights to St. Thomas, St. Johns, St. Lucia, and St. Maarten. $1352.50 + port taxes/fees of $109.87. It's supposed to be a bit less for an Oceanview Guarantee but the web site is not pricing it correctly when following through to book it, and the RCCL agent couldn't get anything to price correctly either, so they'll be looking into it Monday. Travel57 Posted July 18, 2016 #4860 Share Posted July 18, 2016 14 night cruises on the MSC Divina. Sailing all of October 2017. Right now the price for an inside Bella experience cabin as a solo is $1401.16 or $1333.26 if you are a member of their Voyager's club. One week is eastern and one week sails western itinerary: Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Nassau, St. Maarten, Puerto Rico and Nassau. Beautiful ship. Sails from Miami. AdoraBelle Posted July 19, 2016 #4861 Share Posted July 19, 2016 For the NCL studio fans, I'm seeing some fall Escape sailings that are actually nudging just under $1000 (base). Slightly better than what I've been seeing this year.

Earl Colby Pottinger Posted July 20, 2016 #4864 Share Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) I don't even think that's close to possible out of my port (New Orleans)...and Galveston seems to always be more expensive. I have to pay about $115/day for an interior. In 2014 I got a porthole for $90/day booking just 2 weeks in advance. Just looked the absolute best I can get on a 5-day is $100/day for interior...balcony $171/day in January. On a 7-day it's again in January and it's $114/day interior and balcony is $194/day That's Carnival. Here's NCL. It's a 5-day cruise in December and it's $104/day for an interior and $194/day balcony. The best for a 7 day on NCL is in December and it's $139/day interior and $214/day balcony. I did see a really great last minute NCL deal last December....I think it was $70/day interior on a 7-day cruise...but it was too last minute for me to get off from work. Well, I have not seen a deal like this in the last year, but I was on the Carnival Dream for 21 days (a back to back that did not return to New Orleans till the end of the cruise) for $1800 - and that was for two people, but I went alone! Other solo cruises I went on Carnival and NCL in the year before was well under $100 a day. How specials like this occur is when the cruise lines still have lot of empty cabins to sell. With what is happening in Europe and the Med (Greece, Turkey ...) I think enough people have changed their plans from a trip to Europe to a cruise that ships sailing from North America now sail mostly full, and thus the lack of bargain cabins. tgmtgm Posted July 20, 2016 #4865 Share Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) Although not a zero or low supplement sailing, I booked an OV cabin on the 11 night Celebrity Equinox May 15th 2017 sailing. Total price was $2627 solo($1249x2+$129port), but with Celebrity including all four perks of it's "Go Best" promotion valued at over $1600 plus an additional $175 obc from my TA, I feel it's a sweet deal. I know some folks only like to look at the bottom line per day cost when it comes to solo pricing, but I look for value. And this deal fits me to a T. ;) Hi Lois! :D Tony Edited July 20, 2016 by tgmtgm

And this deal fits me to a T. ;) Hi Lois! :D Tony It's definitely a necessity to approach it this way these days. At the very least a good awareness of the other costs needs to be there. The element of a rate including that certainly makes it difficult to compare-at-a-glance though. I booked an 11-day trip on RCCL's Grandeur of the Seas out of Baltimore on 1/4/2017, also in a Large Ocean View cabin, for $1,352.50 + $109.87 taxes/fees. In comparing it with other options, I calculated that trip as $246.03/night -- adding the 11*$67 for the Ultimate drink package, 11x$12.59 for surf/stream internet, 11x$13.50 for gratuities and 11x$20 for parking at the port. Basically everything "necessary" adds up to the pre-port-tax rate I had as a solo in an Ocean View cabin. It's worse than the airlines and their pay-for-everything-individually approach; at least the airlines have a way for you to find the fare easily, unlike cruise lines which seem to love making it really difficult to find what rate they'd charge a solo traveler on any given sailing. I don't drink alcohol except for one or two glasses of wine for the entire trip so that is one promotion I don't need. I use the free Wifi that I can find when I go ashore so that is another promotion I don't need. I need have a problem paying the gratitudes and give my room stewards a 'paper handshake'. So again another promotion I don't need. Dining I find so far mixing both the buffet and the main dining room together meet my needs. Mostly I do my special dining ashore instead on the ship. Also I try to limit how much soda I drink so that is a nother promotion I avoid. All together bottom of the line is my main interest for most cruises. However, I do not mind paying extra if the stops are special to me. I paid over $200 a day for my Alaska trip, and cruises to the places I want to go to next will require the more expensive cruises. maryann2 Posted July 26, 2016 #4868 Share Posted July 26, 2016 Costa Cruises seems to be having a no SS pricing right now. I first saw it on a website I like 'to go' to and reconfirmed on the Costa site. $3114 for an ocean view 23 day Mauritius to Shanghai cruise in March. There are other such routes and prices for Spring. TransAtlantics in April are also no SS. Thank you for posting this. Just booked Costa Favolosa Transatlantic April 1st 2017. No solo supplement. Inside $789 balcony $1247 taxes $62.72 13 days Guadeloupe to Marseilles. Using airmiles to get to Guadeloupe but imagine that could be a problem for some. KATHY@HOME Posted July 27, 2016 #4869 Share Posted July 27, 2016 August 14, going to try the Fathom's ship Adonia. Multiple night's in Dominican Republic and you can do regular pay activities off ship or do the "mission" type community assistant activities :) I read all the reviews. I'm aware of the small amount of entertainment etc. This line is under the carnival deal if you have the 100 carnival shares you get a $100 on board credit for those that have that. Booking agent had done some of the activities etc so was nice to chat with someone who had been in June :D

Evangaline Posted August 10, 2016 #4875 Share Posted August 10, 2016 Just booked a studio cabin on Norwegian Getaway for 7 nights out of Miami on Nov 13 with stops in Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, and Costa Maya. It probably isn't a great deal at $1229. but I got it as a Canada At Par which saves me about $400. I thought the ship might be interesting with its Miami/Cuban theme and the Waterfront and I have only previously been to one of the ports.
