rosie#1 Posted October 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Has anyone ever upgraded within the last month before the cruise? I am trying to do this for a cruise on 11/8 and so far RCCL is telling my TA that I need to cancel, pay the cancellation fees and re-book. My TA is calling RCCL back to speak to a manager.
lvtotrvl1 Posted October 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2008 The only reason would be if you are trying to use a promo for new bookings only...and even then you cannot cancel and rebook. I've never hearrd or seen not being able to upgrade at a regular price after final payment.....There has to be some details that are missing in your post... rosie#1 Posted October 16, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I am trying to upgrade from a balcony to a suite guarantee. It is not a sale price, just a guarantee price. I am on the Voyager leaving 11/8. I thought it was odd. They have at least 15 suites available.
gacathy Posted October 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2008 That does seem odd -- I thought you could upgrade.
seagoer55 Posted October 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Is the suite guarentee for less money than your booked balcony? I think I've read on here that after final payment you can only go "up" in price not down...but then I could be wrong too...
rajacks Posted October 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I am sailing on the Liberty 10/25, just called today and changed from a Promenade to a Balcony guarantee. The rate pp was $40 more than we originally paid for the Promenade room, but with my Platinum discount it actually ended up with us getting a $20 credit! Now anxiously awaiting cabin assignment...:)
Love2cruise58 Posted October 16, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I am leaving on 11/7/08 JOS. I had an E1 balcony, switched last week to a balcony guarantee and received $660.00 credit. Was assigned a D1. I did everything through C&A:D
rosie#1 Posted October 16, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted October 16, 2008 My upgrade would have been $20 additional dollars. MY TA said after talking to five different people at RCCL she was able to upgrade me, but had to cancel my original booking. It has become a mess and I don't think it has been completed. I had a lot of things attached to my original book number. I am totally lost why this is happening since it seems no one else is having this issue. rosie#1 Posted October 16, 2008 Author #9 Share Posted October 16, 2008 Did you use a TA or book directly with RCCL? I am starting to wonder.
rajacks Posted October 16, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I booked directly thru RCCL. Just called C&A to make the change....but I don't think you can do that when you have booked thru a TA. :( Hope it all works out for you!
rosie#1 Posted October 16, 2008 Author #11 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I have a feeling it has something to do with the way the travel agency booked the cruise. Maybe in a group booking? The TA said she spent an hour on the phone with RCCL transferring onboard credit etc. They canceled all of my excursions and reservations for the restaurants. wrp96 Posted October 16, 2008 #12 Share Posted October 16, 2008 I think your TA doesn't know what they are doing or they booked you in a group without telling you. I have upgraded after final payment with no problems - once booked direct with RCCL and once booked through a TA. Neither time required cancelling and rebooking and I kept all my existing info, reservations, preferences etc.
dachshunddoglover Posted October 16, 2008 #13 Share Posted October 16, 2008 It definitely has to do with the fact that you used a TA. If you book directly, it is soooooo easy to make changes like this one. Also - make sure and ask for a guest copy of your new reservation and make sure all your OBC's transfered. The last time I used a TA, I added another cabin and when she did the changes, the OBC's disappeared. I was lucky that I caught that right away and we could have them reinstated. I am so anal that I check and double check and triple check everything and it has really saved my butt on many occasions. Happy sailing to you. rosie#1 Posted October 17, 2008 Author #14 Share Posted October 17, 2008 Yes you are correct. I was booked in a group without knowing it. In the end I lost my reservation at Portofinos and had to pay a higher fuel surcharge. Not a big deal. I am still waiting to find out if my wine and dine package from my coke rewards will be transferred. My OBC's are all accounted for. Thank you for the input. I learned a good lesson. gkacky Posted October 17, 2008 #15 Share Posted October 17, 2008 Hi Jocelyn- I was able to get this upgrade and have already been assigned a cabin. This was done directly with RCL, as I did not use a TA. Kathy

So far their TA has told them RCL won't let them change. I hope it works out.
micruiser2002 Posted October 17, 2008 #17 Share Posted October 17, 2008 It has nothing to do with using a TA. I used a TA on mine and have already changed the booking twice since final payment to get a lower fare. Didn't have a problem either time. My booking number never changed and my obc's are all there. cruisePRN Posted October 17, 2008 #18 Share Posted October 17, 2008 I also am having problems because i was put into a group booking with a TA. Never again. I was told that as a D+ I loose my garentee to get my preferred seating at dinner because of my group booking. Never again!
rosie#1 Posted October 18, 2008 Author #19 Share Posted October 18, 2008 It has to do with TA's putting people in group bookings. I made a change in August with no problem. It was then they must have put me in the group booking. I had no idea until I tried to make a change again.
Coralc Posted October 18, 2008 #20 Share Posted October 18, 2008 That's kind of sneaky/rotten. Being put into a group booking without your knowledge. Who actually benefits from that then? It doesn't sound like the passenger does. ???

Unless they have changed their "rules" in the meantime, you certainly *can* do what you want to do.

You shouldn´t have to pay that. Your TA should have to eat the difference as they have been the ones to mess this up, unless you agreed at the beginning to be in a group booking.JMHO
