Mercury refurb?

Guess I must have been asleep at the wheel, but I just read a post that referred to Mercury's recent refurb. When did it happen? Did Mercury get the same overhaul as Century or did it simply go in for scheduled dry dock? What changes have been made? Specialty restaurant? Thanks.

Hi lysolqn:)

I was on Mercury in September and no overhauls were made

to her in the "Century Mode". No Specialty Restaurant was

added.

I do know back in April 2007 she was drydocked in San Francisco

for a week where they added balconies and re-did some of the

shop areas.

Can you please tell me about your recent cruise on the Mercury? I am thinking of booking the Pacific coastal cruise next October and I have read so many mixed reviews on this particular Celebrity ship, that I am somewhat hesitant to go ahead with it.

Hi, this was my 6th time sailing Mercury:D she is my favorite

ship~I am trying to figure out when to sail her again since at

the end of next year she will be embarking out of Baltimore

and Charleston:)

I am in the group her love her;) and you are correct,

there seem to be alot of folks who either love her or

hate her:eek: ..well, maybe hate is too strong a word.....

To be honest, I think every ship gets mixed reviews. I just

go and always seem to have a good time:)

This one was a cruise to Alaska and it was wonderful:)

I was just on Mercury in Alaska at the end of August. Although I think I prefer the M-class ships, I thought Mercury was a wonderful ship and wouldn't hesitate to go on her again. In fact, I think Millennium showed more age when I was on her last year than Mercury did. Also, since I was on the Mercury cruise with my mother, I was happy that I was on a smaller ship as it made it easier for her to get around.

It's good to hear from repeat cruisers on any ship. Two more questions - DH and I are night owls - not wild party people, but we rarely go to bed before 1 am. Are movies shown anywhere besides the cabins? Does anything happen late or is the ship dead by 11? Are iced tea and coffee available after the buffet closes or is it just room service? Also in response to your comment about the size of the ship; for the past few years we have been sailing the mega ships. My husband has developed some back problems that make walking long distances difficult, so I think we will have to start looking at the smaller ships. It's good to know this one is easy to navigate.

Thanks again for the help.

I was on the Mercury last month (the beginning of October) and I thought she was in good shape. The service was excellent.

I never made it until 1 AM but at 11 PM each night there was still a good deal of activity aboard.

They do show movies in the Cinema..but not really sure if they have a "late night" showing. They usually have shows, casino and some low key music in the lounges in addition to the "night club" The also have trivia and karaoke. There is always something going on!

There is usually coffee, ice tea, lemonade, fruit punch and water available near the buffet areas.

Have a great cruise.

We are looking forward to going on the Mercury in 2010. We have been on the Century (prior to changes) and Galaxy in the past and really liked these ships.

No specialty restaurant. All I noticed was some new carpet. The Mercury has done its time in my opinion.
