vaitape Posted November 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2008 Gees, sorry! I should know the answers to the above 2 questions don't. Have done some research on this site and somewhere I saw that there were small (perhaps 20") LCD TVs with integrated DVD players and Ipod docking stations but couldn't find anything about CD players. We were on the PG in 2006 in a Cat C cabin and surely didn't have an LCD TV with DVD player....I think the TV did have an integrated VCR player but can't remember if there was a CD player. We have a collection of great Tahitian CDs and would like to play them....haven't gotten to the Ipod era as yet to the shock of our grandkids LOL! Any input from recent cruisers would be much apppreciated.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted November 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2008 Hi, I can't really answer. I know the other Regent ships have been upgraded to DVD players and flat screen TV's. The DVD player can play CD's, although the sound isn't great. As far as I know there are no Ipod docks unless you get up into a Penthouse. And all bets are off with the PG--someone must know the answer who's been there recently. I would like to know, since I'm certainly bringing my Ipod, but not a bunch of CD's. Almost worth going out and buying one of the little portable sets, but no, I'm going to resist.
HonTri Posted November 4, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 4, 2008 We were on the PG in March 09 no CD player in our cabin (610). I plugged our Ipod into the back of the TV. The sound was so so.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted November 4, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2008 Did you need some kind of special adapter for that? I have a dock that plugs into speakers, but stupidly left them at the cottage.

I have a dock that plugs into speakers, but stupidly left them at the cottage. No, I realized I brought the dock home, and the wires. Wasn't going to take them with me, but perhaps it might be usable??
vaitape Posted November 5, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Thanks for the info....guess we'll leave our CDs at home. PS/ what's a penthouse? Are there any on the PG? Are those the cabins that come with a butler?
HonTri Posted November 5, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Wendy it is a cable that plugs into the ear phone jack of the Ipod then into the TV. they are cheap. It is very easy to setup.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted November 5, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Cool, thanks! I'll ask my techno-geek friend about this!
cruiseej Posted November 5, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Here's something simple I did on a previous Regent cruise (before we got a portable travel speakers for our iPod last year): at home before you go, if your home CD or DVD player is hooked up to the same receiver as your VCR, just play your CDs and record them on the VCR. Of course there's no picture (or whatever background image your DVD player outputs -- but you just want the sound. You can record hours of music on a single VHS tape. Then pop the tape in your tape player on the PG, press play, and you have music! -- Eric
Wendy The Wanderer Posted November 5, 2008 #10 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Hmm, neat idea, who thunk? Unfortunately I got rid of my VCR last spring. Maybe we'll take a few of our CD's along, if we know there's a DVD player.
Rare ORV Posted November 5, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 5, 2008 I'm pretty sure the TV's in the room have a DVD player built into them. It might play CD's, didn't take any, didn't try it. There was not a VHS player in our suite, they've gone the way of the Dodo bird and the cassette tape I"m afraid. Actually we didn't use the DVD at all as we were quite busy most of the time. Wendy The Wanderer Posted November 5, 2008 #12 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Right, of course, no VCR's any more anyways! As I said, we've tried, and you can play CD's in the DVD player, at least on one of the ships. Just don't sound great, about the same as that ipod would sound hooked up to the TV directly! shorton Posted November 6, 2008 #13 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Wendy, we were on the 9-27 cruise on Deck 6 (window). There was a smallish LCD TV with a DVD player built in. Presume it's the same in all cabins. No VCR.
tracysue Posted November 21, 2008 #14 Share Posted November 21, 2008 Since the ship is being refurbished early in '09 - I would think all that would be updated? just a hope and smile! :)
Wendy The Wanderer Posted November 21, 2008 #15 Share Posted November 21, 2008 Thanks, turns out we're now on deck 8, in a room that apparently has a Bose ipod dock. So if this is true, I'm very happy.
