Here is the Fuel Surcharge Refund Tracker

Because Nov 4th, one day only, the price just crossed above their $70 a barrel mark, Carnival has now removed from their web page the previous weeks results which were below $70 - so those inquiring can't see the full history so easily.

What a cleaver ploy to get out of refunding the surcharge!

They have done their calculation as they are the master casino operators.

Masterfully crafted by corporate lawyers.

A fairer way would have been to basis refund on an average of all closing prices during the 30 days prior to sail date.

WE too had a cruise booked for 2010 and was disappointed that princess was not charging the fuel surcharge on NEW 2010 bookings. Was disappointed as we are platinum level we are devoted to Princess and yet we were still being punished for booking ahead of time.

We too contacted our Online TA and she was great she cancelled and rebooked it right away with all the same stuff and NO fuel surcharge. Thank goodness for great TAs

and did anyone notice the .... "At that ame time, a price increase on 2010 sailings will become effective" ??? They are going to get you in the end either way, and sometimes twice.

i was worried that there would be a price increase when we cancelled and re booked; however the price was actually $50 less, so a double savings.

I really just don't worry about it...

They charged me a "Fuel Surcharge", I paid it, I think of it as part of my cruise fare...They could have just as easily just upped the price...

It's not like there's a standard price for all cruises...Every time I cruise, I call my TA and just ask for the bottom line...What's it going to cost me? Doesn't really matter how it all breaks down...how much is the cruise fare, how much is taxes and fees, etc.

It is what it is...

That said, I wouldn't mind Princess rebating my "fuel surcharge"...I'm just not going to hold my breath...

Of course it's not "fair"...because they really don't want to give money back...What's the old line? The stole it fair and square!

Look...Fuel prices could tank all the way down to $50 a barrel over MOST of any 25 day period and spike during that time, just once to $70...Would that mean it's costing Princess $70 a barrel? NO...They'd be pulling in a windfall, because they'd be buying the fuel mostly at LOW prices yet collecting and keeping all the fuel surcharges...They'd be basing it on the "high", not on the average or, even better, on the ACTUAL COST...It's a contrivance designed to justify them keeping the money...

It's like telling a six-year old kid "I'll buy you a puppy...so long as you don't cry or whine about anything for 25 straight days"...NO way he's EVER getting that puppy...You know that he's going to break at some time and the clock starts over...

So, friends, don't even worry about it...Princess does not intend to ever give you back your fuel surcharge...Consider it as part of the cost...You were willing to pay it when you booked it...so, forget about it...it's spent...

If you actually do manage to get a rebate, consider it a windfall...

I considered my fuel charge (for my 09 cruise) as part of the purchase price. If prices stay below $70 for the 25-day period prior to my cruise, I'll view it as a bonus. I felt differently last year when Carnival raised my price after the fact and was happy when they reached the deal with the Florida AG (and got OBC). That seemed to be the right thing to do.

It does surprise me that the new refunds are all or nothing. They could lower the $9 per day surcharge to $5 if the price stays below $80. Didn't they start at $5 and only raise them higher when oil went over $100?

It's as easy as nymex.com (and a jillion other places on the internet.) Really, it's not like they can hide the history of oil prices.

All they did was reset the clock for everyone.

July 2008 we booked our 2010 11 Night 10 Day Mexican Coastal Cruise on the Star Princess thru an online Cruise Agency. At time of the booking we were charged $180.00 Fuel Supplement Surcharge. This past Sunday I checked the price on our Cruise and for the same Cruise it was $180.00 less due to the Fuel Supplement Surcharge was drop on all new bookings made on or after 1 Nov. 2008. I contacted Princess and they stated currently the Fuel Supplement Surcharge isn’t being imposed on new bookings. I called the TA and asked what they could do. Bottom line the TA cancelled our Cruise and immediately rebooked it allowing us to get the lower rate. We were able to retain our Early Traditional Dining time and our same cabin. Persistence does pay off by constantly monitoring your Cruise and keeping in contact with your TA. The TA also took care of my sister in law and her husband’s reservations also. Kudos to the TA. Booking early paid off for us!

Good for you! :) I wasn't as lucky.:( I just checked on my Hawaii cruise and yes, the fuel supplement is gone, but the price has gone up. I paid $252 in fuel charges when I booked my cruise.

Now, it is $33 more without the surcharge, which means that the price has actually gone up $285. Guess I will keep an eye on it, since I have a lot of time until I go.
