IUFAN Posted December 27, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2008 My wife and I have been on 7 cruises. All of those were 7 day and now we are thinking about trying a 10 day. Is it safe to assume that there will be less spring breakers on the 10 day compared to the 7 day in March? Thanks in advance! I've enjoyed reading this board for quite some time and thought it was time to join.

There will be lots of kids on any cruise during those times whether it's a seven or a ten day cruise.
chrysalis Posted December 27, 2008 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2008 We did back to back 10 day cruises on the Emerald last March and there were not many springbreakers...and we are doing back to backs again on her this March again.
IUFAN Posted December 27, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Can somebody who has been on both ships compare them?
chrysalis Posted December 27, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Can somebody who has been on both ships compare them? The ships are basically identical, with one being about a year newer than the other...The Ruby was just launched a few weeks ago Go for the 10 days.....nothing like unpacking for that lenght of time. Pia1913 Posted December 27, 2008 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Spring break might be later in 2009, since Easter is three weeks later in '09 than in '08.
cruzzers Posted December 27, 2008 #8 Share Posted December 27, 2008 We did the Emerald 10 day last year in Nov and the alternate iteniary again in Feb. and loved both. We just got off the 7 day on the Ruby and while both ships are almost identical, and beautiful, I would most definately say do the 10 day if you have the time off. You just get used to the routine and lay of the ship on the 7 day and then it's time to pack up and leave. The 10 day ports on the Emerald are wonderful! Enjoy! GSDsky Posted December 27, 2008 #9 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Ruby has a reddish cast Emerald is an off green in color... All kidding aside take the 10 on the emerald. We did it this year and thought that was short. You go to all the trouble to get there and you may as well spend as much time as you can. 14 days are perfect... Unless your from Sudbury! coiran Posted December 27, 2008 #14 Share Posted December 27, 2008 You probably will not find too many spring breakers on a 10 day cruise - you will find them on 7 day cruises. Go for it and don't worry. Ron
mii Posted December 27, 2008 #15 Share Posted December 27, 2008 I would take 10 day in a heartbeat. Very rare that I do a 7 day. Been there done that. Marilyn
Caribbean Sunsets Posted December 27, 2008 #16 Share Posted December 27, 2008 I would go for the 10 day as well. That extra 3 days to relax is too tough to pass on.
Tatka Posted December 27, 2008 #17 Share Posted December 27, 2008 10 vs 7 days on basically identical ship? Tough choice! :D Seriously, I'd even sail on Caribbean ;) for 3 more days.
caber Posted December 27, 2008 #18 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Take the 10 days. The longer the better I say. Off on the grand Jan 2, with no thrusters:eek: If you make it to Aruba we will be there too on Sea Princess. Happy cruising :)
GSDsky Posted December 27, 2008 #19 Share Posted December 27, 2008 Sailed the Sea twice and prefer that size. Are you in Aruba Jan 6th?
Rare many cruises Posted December 27, 2008 #20 Share Posted December 27, 2008 We've only sailed on 7 day cruises & we will be on our first 10 day on the Emerald in April. Here's some advice: The 7 day cruises are too short...by the time you relax, it's time to start packing. We are so looking forward to the 3 extra sea days! :)
IUFAN Posted December 27, 2008 Author #21 Share Posted December 27, 2008 I agree that 10 days is always better. I should have put the question like this: Is the 10 day worth $1100 more than the 7?
coiran Posted December 28, 2008 #22 Share Posted December 28, 2008 I agree that 10 days is always better. I should have put the question like this: Is the 10 day worth $1100 more than the 7? For one person? NO!! Look at the 14 day on the Grand in february - inside cabins are going for about $100 per day per person. Ron

DrivesLikeMario Posted December 28, 2008 #24 Share Posted December 28, 2008 We took a 10 nighter in March. It was 2 weeks prior to Easter and there were 550 kids onboard. So much for the theory that there are hardly any on 10 night voyages! :D
Princess Chatterer Posted December 28, 2008 #25 Share Posted December 28, 2008 Can somebody who has been on both ships compare them? Sure can. The ships are very similar but there are differences in interior decor. The Emerald is more overstated in design style than the Ruby. I'm not saying the Emerald is gaudy, just overstated, especially in Club Fusion. The Ruby wins my personal best of fleet Princess interior design award, hands down. As far as chosing the Ruby or the Emerald I think the more important choice is what ports will these ships be stopping at. Pick the ports, then the ship.
