cruisldy Posted January 6, 2009 #876 Share Posted January 6, 2009 I want to thank MERION MOM, for starting this thread, and all who have contributed to it. I watched as many of you did the sail away from Florida and my husband just couldn't understand why I was getting so giddy knowing that other folks were on this fantastic voyage. Well, now he can have his turn for excitement, as this morning I called our cruise agent and booked us on the June14, 2009 sailing, on which I will celebrate a birthday on June 15, a youngish 60's BD.:D I have been following along with most of you, since the talk of the Mariner coming to the West Coast started and now am reading this and the thread by "glgolfer" almost hourly. I do have a question that maybe a few of you can answer for me. Is this the Captain Johnny that owns a Harley and has it in the hold of the ship and rides it in some ports? Well, my husband is a member of the local San Diego Harley group, got his first Harley three years ago at 62, will be 65 when we sail and I understand that Captain Johnny is quite a personable guy. Can anyone give me an E-mail contact, as I would love for my husband to personally meet him, as a surprise. I hope that isn't too presumptious of me to think this might be possible and if so, please don't flame me to bad. Thanks for any help you can give me. I have my cruise agent asking also, but I think I trust my CC people a lot better for things of this nature.:)
cruzingduo Posted January 6, 2009 #877 Share Posted January 6, 2009 I am curious, did anyone bring a case of water onboard? and did they have any trouble doing so? I read elsewhere on the board stating water cannot be brought onboard. We always bring a case and never had a problem.
truffles2 Posted January 6, 2009 #878 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Yes, it is the same Capt. Johnny with the Harley. And I read somewhere on one of the threads that someone managed to bring on all kinds of drinks, multiple bottles of wine, etc.:p

rubrrick Posted January 6, 2009 #880 Share Posted January 6, 2009 She should speak directly to the Guest Relations Manager and not the underlings at the front desk. She can still do that. I have already taken care of what needed to be done. Thanks for the thought!!:)
suzyluvs2cruise Posted January 6, 2009 #881 Share Posted January 6, 2009 It's too bad that all that RCCL wants to do is build BIGGER ships!! The Monarch of the seas, I believe holds not quite 2750 passengers. They could have built a Radiance Class........which holds 2500 passengers, with a bit smaller cabin space and would have held over 3000 passengers, to do the 3/4 night cruises...........and blow away Carnival. Now it's the other way around. Carnival has immediatly added a second ship......running out of San Diego........as RCCL gave up that port....and Mr. Arison is once again smiling and his bottom line is much better than RCCL. Bringing the Mariner to San Pedro to do year round 7 day voyages.......well.......that is going to get old very quickly IMHO! Maybe they could try to vary the itinerary.........once a month to Hawaii, every other cruise in the summer to Alaska.........make it either a 14 day, or two segments of 7 days each, one each way!! There could be a few coastal runs.......from LA to Seattle as well. Then again......what do we know. I've never run a cruise line company!!:D:D:D Rick I agree..............we need a ship for the 3/4 night West Coast itineraries. I think there's a huge market here and can't quite understand why we don't. I'm also hoping RCI reconsiders the RT Hawaii cruises. I'm having cruise withdrawals, didn't want to book Carnival so will be going on a 7 night Princess cruise this Saturday. ;) Great itinerary ideas.....we can always hope and maybe RCI is listening!!! maggiecharlie Posted January 6, 2009 #882 Share Posted January 6, 2009 thanks great advice and I was hoping for the sofa bed for them and not the pullman, we sail on her a year form now Jan 24 2010 I was able to get them a great rate funny thing I read on cc that the mairner was giving residents rates for this march and april, which are more then what we paid for our cruise maybe cause we booked so far in advanced we are excited thankss Hope you have a great time on the Mariner. She is truly an awesome ship!

dramaqueen4lyfe Posted January 6, 2009 #885 Share Posted January 6, 2009 I think that there are size limits for some of the ports but don't know the details. Some Alaska residents complain about the invasion of cruise passengers in some of the ports. I can only imagine their reaction to a ship with the capacity of a Voyager. Frankly I think that the enclosed Solariums of Radiance class ships are far better suited for Alaska than the open air Solariums of Voyager class.:) I so agree with you Bill. I love the enclosed Solarium. Can't understand why RCI didn't keep that plan with the larger ships. I loved the video. Can't wait to hear form Carol again. MilliesMom Posted January 6, 2009 #886 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Bill, they could do the 7 day Mexico cruise and alternate with 7 day going to Vancouver and back:D Carol:) I would LOVE that especially if it stopped in San Francisco, Astoria, Seattle, and Vancouver along the way. I am not sure legally if I can give you the recipe out of a cookbook that is for saleSorry Janie I thought if proper credit was given ... author, name of book, page of recipe that it was OK. I know JoAnna Lund (author of many, many cookbooks) allowed it as long as we met those conditions. I understand if you don't feel OK sending it to me. I've let my friend know about the recipe and we'll be on the Mariner in April if they still have the book for sale. The biggest thing for her was whether or not they still served this wonderful raisin bread for breakfast on board ship. So have our fingers crossed that they still do. toonjie Posted January 6, 2009 #887 Share Posted January 6, 2009 I want to hear all about the Nelsons!!!!:D Hi. I was on the Mariner for this cruise with Merion Mom. The Nelson's concert was great, one of the best shows I have seen at sea. They had loads of clips of their family starting back with Ozzie and Harriet. They played primarily Ricky Nelson songs but they did one of their own, maybe two. Their sister Tracey, (The actress), was in the audience with her young daughter. They did a great job of giving both the history of the family and giving a moving tribute to their dad, as well as doing a great job musically with only a 45 minute rehearsal with the Mariner band. They brought their touring guitarist Neil Zaza, who is fantastic and did some great solos. You can google his name to see some great vids of his guitar work, it's excellent. Many of the video clips featured Paul McCartney stating how influential Ricky Nelson was on him. It was a really excellent show, as was all the entertainment last week, it was just great and the ice show is the best I have seen on RCCL ships. Jeff and I once got to take a picture of him riding his Harley up the gangplank at Port Canaveral! How cool you're going on Mariner in June...but a bummer that we're going in May! I thought about you recently...we booked Radiance out of San Diego, four days, Septemeber 30th. It was an awesome price when we booked...would love to see you two again! ladylawyer Posted January 6, 2009 #897 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Hey Carol............you get a "new" card on the 19th in Brazil! I bet that one is the correct color and says in BIG BOLD LETTERS......"SUITE". It will also say...........Diamond Plus. Oh, by the way.........you can go to Michelle's desk or Annie, and get a Diamond Plus sticker to put over your Diamond print!! Like..........we........here at home.......are even wondering why you are telling us stuff like this...........when you are on a cruise of a lifetime.......and we arn't!! Geez.........Carol.......give us the good stuff!!:D:D:D Rick Rick, I suspect that Carol's post regarding her SeaPass card was for my benefit. When we were on the Majesty, last month, my card could not be found, during check-in. Finally, our Check-In Agent, came back with a plain white card that said "Diamond Member." Of course, I whined about that ... and Carol quickly whipped out hers, which was emblazoned with "Diamond Plus Member." Feeling my pain ... ;) ... she graciously said something to the effect of "nah nah nah naaaaaaah nah!" :p As they say, what goes around, comes around. Et tu, Carol?
Merion_Mom Posted January 6, 2009 Author #898 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Hi Linda...........Bobbie is not a happy camper........in the fact that the passenger drill is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 5PM......which is when the Mariner sails out of Coco Cay. Dinner is at 6 PM......and the Captains reception is at 5:30. She is out of her mind about being in a lifejacket within 15 minutes of being dressed and ready to meet anyone!! Make sense???!!;) Rick PS.......the other problem.......is that she has been introduced via email to Captain Johnny............so she can't bail out!! That's more than I should disclose. Except that that's wrong. Muster drill - 4 P.M. Main seating - 6 P.M. Captain's Reception - 7:30 to 8:30 P.M. No worries, mon. :)
