Cell phone service in Hawaii?

Does anybody have experience with using Sprint phones in Hawaii? Is there service at all the ports? Can you get cell phone signal on the ship?

We just returned from a land vacation on the Big Island and our service was fine in most areas. We have Sprint/Nextel, but the phones are hybrid phones and use the Sprint towers for normal cell calls when Nextel coverage isn't available.

The America doesn't have a cell tower on the ship so whenever you get signal its from land, and roaming charge free!

We had sprint at the time we visited the various ports in Hawaii. The service worked great. Many times we would pick up the service (not the ships service) a few miles off the coast of each Island.

Sprint worked great for me too in all ports of call.

we have verizon, we had great service everywhere on the ship and on land. maybe once or twice did not have call service, but text always worked

I have "nationwide" service on Verizon. Do you know if that includes Hawaii or will roaming charges apply?

Its included. All the states are included.

I checked with Verizon and "nationwide" and "cross america" plans do not have any roaming unless you are a mountain area that doesn't have towers. Check out the Hawaiian Islands on the Verizon site.
