Carnival Triumph New England/ Canada cruise questions..

Hello all. I am an experienced cruiser but I have never cruised on Carnival before and I have never been to New York City so I have several questions. We are taking the New England/Canad cruise on October 10th for 7 days.

  • which terminal does the Triumph go out of?
  • Is there a view from the dock to say the Empire State building?
  • Which side of the ship is the Statue of Liberty on when departing NYC?
  • Where can I find a sample daily activities for the cruise?
  • menu?
  • and last, does anyone have any photos/video of the ship/cruise to recommend?

See? I told you I had several questions, lol. Any guidance is welcome.

Which terminal does the Triumph go out of?
Manhattan Cruise Terminal, on the West Side Highway.

Is there a view from the dock to say the Empire State building?

You can see it, that and the Chrysler Building as well.

Which side of the ship is the Statue of Liberty on when departing NYC?

I want to say the right or starboard side.

can you see the shore while you're travelling?

We couldn't see much as we pretty much hit a fog bank after we passed the Verrazano.

do you go out past the 3 mile limit for gambling?

Yup.

are the casino and shops open in port?

Nope.

I'm a four-time veteran of this cruise (Victory, not Triumph) and have photo albums from three of those cruises at http://community.webshots.com/user/nybumpkin. The fog is hard to predict; the first time we sailed (end of June/beginning of July) the fog came and went. Second time (Labor Day weekend), no fog but we did sail through the remnants of a tropical storm. Third time (mid-August), no fog until we left Saint John, then had very heavy fog until halfway though our day in Halifax. And last year (also mid-August), absolutely no fog at all.

Statue of Liberty - starboard side sailing out. Also Ellis Island. When you sail under the Verrazano Bridge, you'll want to be up on one of the highest decks - it looks like the funnel won't make it under the bridge.

Thank you soooo much! My parents sort of sprung this on me two days ago. I, being a Floridian, have pretty much only done Caribbean/Bahamas cruises. I seriously didn't even know this was an option :o.

I was looking for videos on youtube and talk about your hit or miss...

Living in NYC, we have taken this cruise before. You will enjoy great sights leaving manhattan, not the least of which will be sailing under the Verrazono-Narrows Bridge. Just remember to pack warn clothing for Canada.

Howdy dontpanik, and don't panic. The Triumph will leave out of the West Side Piers of Manhatten near 55th St. and the West Side Highway.

You would be able to view the Empire State Building and some others from a high deck (Lido Deck) on the Triumph.

The Statue of Liberty will be on the right side of the Triumph as we leave NYC. If we get delayed in leaving we may be leaving during dinner time. This has happened before.

Each day if you read the ship paper you will see the activities listed for each day. The menu will be posted outside the dining room for meals served in dining room. The Pizza place near the New World Pool will be serving pizza and salad. Also some calzones. The Missisippi grill on the other side serves Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and Steak Sandwhiches. The Deli has a list of Sandwhiches which they serve. Other food stations on the Lido Deck are marked as to what they have. There are plenty of coffee stations and have 24-hour coffee, tea, and juices. 24-hour soft serve ice cream. Complimentary Cappiccino and Espresso served in the dining room.

The shops and Casino will be open after we get about three miles out. Do you like to play in the Casino? What casino games do you like to play. Cruises to Canada are fun and are my favorite. This will be my sixth trip to New England/Canada third on the Triumph. It is a really great ship. You must live near Port Canaveral?

lol...what gave my location away? I admit, I love the convenience of driving a half an hour to board a ship. As far as the casino goes...I am a slots player only. We'll be joining my parents on this cruise and I believe my dad does blackjack and maybe poker. I am not sure. We've done several trips to Las Vegas, Biloxi and of course, the casino ships.

I have never been to NYC, Boston, Maine or Canada....this will be wonderful! I lived, for a time, in Pennsylvania, but never made it that far east/north. I have only ever been out of the country to the Bahamas and caribbean...i have never *gasp* even been to Canada. This will be my first time.

We took the Triumph to Canada its first year in the middle of September, and we were told we were the first sailing since it started in July not to have fog.

The following year, we did it at the end of September and once again, no fog.

And then there was July 2007:

Howdy again dontpanik: What gave your location away, the space coast notation on your posting. I live in NYC. When we go on Carnival it's only a taxi ride away. When we go on Celebrity it's shorter and I drive to the cruise port in about 30 minutes.

It is too bad you only play slots in the Casino. Table games give the player somewhat better odds. I won a few thousand dollars on a slot once. By the way, I'm usually at the craps table in the Casino. That is my game of choice.

NYC you may not see too much. Boston we will be there for a good few hours. It is a nice place. I like Portland, ME too. Many people don't like it because it isn't a large city like NYC or Boston. Halifax is my favorite place. It is a nice city and is the provincial capital of N.S. I like Sydney which is on Cape Bretton. They have a larger Tim Horton's Coffee Shop than the one in Halifax. We won't be going to Sydney on this trip though.

If you've never been to Halifax though you should go to Peggy's Cove. A tour goes there. See the historic lighthouse. You also go by the citadel. In the afternoon the Titantic Tour is interesting. You go to the Cemetary where some of the deceased are buried. Very interesting stories about some of the passengers.

See you onboard the Triumph.
