baxley Posted January 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2009 Just wondering if our rooms have Bibles in them....like motels, and hotels? If they do, I'll have one less thing to pack. Thanks for your help.

Psee Posted January 21, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2009 You'll need to bring your own. If you are on a longer cruise that is not leaving or returning on a Sunday the ship will usually have an interdenominational service. Check the daily newsletter. :)
paul929207 Posted January 21, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2009 On cruises it is BYOB - Bring Your Own Bible.
overthesea Posted January 21, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2009 We always take our Bibles but I thought I had seen them some of our cruises. Must have been on another line.
tulips*n*truffles Posted January 21, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2009 If there is a service onboard on Sunday, I'd bet there are Bibles on ship. There is a library, right? Maybe there? Hmmm. Good question.
alanmal Posted January 21, 2009 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2009 73 cruises under my belt and on all of them there have been bibles in the night table on every single one of them. Yes they do have Sunday services.
Toto2Kansas Posted January 21, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 21, 2009 73 cruises under my belt and on all of them there have been bibles in the night table on every single one of them. Yes they do have Sunday services. On Princess also? Nope, sorry, never had one in the night table in any of the staterooms we have ever had on Princess. Maybe they took them out before I got there. ;)
sultan_sfo Posted January 21, 2009 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2009 No Bibles -- I attended all the 4 Sunday Non-Denominational Services on our 32-day cruise. They hand out the hymnals and responsive readings.

G'ma Posted January 21, 2009 #12 Share Posted January 21, 2009 There has been a Gideon on almost every cruise I've been on......
Cruisin' Chick Posted January 21, 2009 #13 Share Posted January 21, 2009 Never seen one, but that makes sense. It's one less thing that you won't be able to please everyone on (which edition of Bible? Koran? Kabbalah text?). As others have said, you can bring on yours, seek one out in the library, go to the services.
BigGuy25 Posted January 21, 2009 #14 Share Posted January 21, 2009 There was another thread earlier in the week where a poster had heard that on some cruise lines the occupant of a cabin left partially used coffee cards in the stateroom bible for the next occupant to use. I thought that might be what this thread was about!
coiran Posted January 21, 2009 #15 Share Posted January 21, 2009 Have never seen a bible on any Princess ship. They sometimes will offer an interdenomonational service led by one of the staff. I have seen, on occasion, jewish services held and also Catholic services if there is a priest on board. Ron
ladypalmtree Posted January 21, 2009 #16 Share Posted January 21, 2009 They have had them on some cruises on other lines in the bedside table. I read a post on here ontime that the first thing the Op did when he got into the room was throw the Bible away! Rude! So Princess tries to be P.C and no longer have them. Bring your own! Clutterlady Posted January 21, 2009 #17 Share Posted January 21, 2009 Been on Princess, NCL and Carnival in the last few years, and have never seen a bible in the cabin.
Ula Posted January 25, 2009 #18 Share Posted January 25, 2009 I have not found a bible, but on Sunday's there is a service. Also on some of the Princess cruises in the Patter there are times for a daily bible study. To the OP bring your own to be sure.
cdngrl Posted January 25, 2009 #19 Share Posted January 25, 2009 nope, no bibles in the nightstands. do you think people took them? my daughter brought hers and the steward would leave it on her pillow at turndown. nice touch.
BBsailor Posted April 15, 2009 #20 Share Posted April 15, 2009 Just off NCL Spirit and found that there was a Gideon Bible in the desk draw. Alas, no other goodies inside just the good word.

Coracii Posted April 16, 2009 #22 Share Posted April 16, 2009 And as an agnostic, I've always told hotels and cruise lines in advance that they could either ensure that a Bible is not in the room or I will, their option. Just as a Christian would be less than impressed with finding their room stocked with the Qu'ran, Talmud, Vedas, or Dianetics as the only option in their room, I don't believe someone not following any particular faith should have the decision made by the hotel or cruiseline on that particular choice of reading material. Religious freedom also means having the choice not to follow one. I use all the drawers provided for my belongings so the sitting quietly in a drawer point doesn't change my feelings. Maybe they noticed that I checked the athiest box on the passenger preferences form and removed it from my room each time.:D
hubofhockey Posted April 16, 2009 #24 Share Posted April 16, 2009 How much of an effort is for people to BYOB (bring your own bibles)? If they are that committed to having one on a vacation, packing a book should be no different from me packing a Grisham paperback.
sultan_sfo Posted April 16, 2009 #25 Share Posted April 16, 2009 Gideons established their practice of distributing "free" copies of bibles to hotels long ago. I doubt any other religious group or organization would be willing to match Gideons free distribution.
