bsails Posted April 7, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2004 My husband and I are not nightowls due to some health problems. As a result we haven't joined the roll call thread for our cruise. Could someone tell me what time of day the cruise critic parties take place and can two oldsters fit in with this group? Barb Pacific Coast/Alaska 14-day cruise in only. . . Rare Lois R Posted April 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Good morning...you can post to your roll call anytime of day! Not everyone stays up in the evenings..but that is why the internet is so great..just pop in and say hello And the CC parties vary in day and time. I would say most of them take place on the first sea day..sometimes in the morning...with coffee, juice, danish, etc. There may be others with different information. You should receive an invitation in your stateroom after you arrive with the exact day and time. Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda! parody Posted April 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Two weeks ago, our CC function was held on the second day of the cruise (first sea day) at 10:00 AM. "Oldsters" are certainly welcome.
Karen Carney Posted April 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2004 By all means get on the roll call for your cruise and sign up for the party. Usually the party is on a sea day and in the morning. The fun you will have just getting to know your fellow passengers on roll calls will amaze you. People are too busy at night doing all of the different options that going to bed when you want to will be your choice. Karen

safein Posted April 7, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Definitely depends on which ship you're on. On the Millie, We met at 11AM on the day we sailed in Casa de Campo. Our party had people of all ages and it was great to finally put a face to a name! Anita And now Infinity 2005! AlpacaRanchr Posted April 7, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2004 I'd say DON'T BOTHER. Much ado about nothing... I thought at LEAST some snacks or appetizers would be offered.. there was NOTHING for the CC party... So much hoopla... then zip... most people that sign up don't even go - at least on the Century last week... Mia.
cruise pup Posted April 7, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 7, 2004 If you're looking for a catered affair, don't bother. That's not what the CC party is about. It's about meeting in person all of the terrific people with whom you've been communicating on this board, sharing a wealth of information and the occasional laugh. I was recently on Galaxy (3/19-26/04) and our party was the largest yet on this ship. It was in the afternoon and we all passed the mike to each other so we all could identify ourselves. The turnout was so huge we were asked to step outside so that a group photo could be taken from the deck above in order to fit everyone in. I promise you'll be fed on this cruise so don't let the absence of another chance for a nibble scare you away. gracecarmo Posted April 7, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Our CC party on the Infinity (South America) was well attended. It was at first scheduled for 10 AM on the first sea day, then changed to 2:00 PM that same afternoon (reason I can't remember). We had soft drinks, and bar snacks. The photographer was there, but did not take a picture (group of about 70), and the social hostess did not say a word. Several of us had met in Buenos Aires, and best of all, was our sail-away CC gathering in the Martini Bar, that we arranged here on the Roll Call BB prior to the cruise. Many of us continued to meet each evening before early seating dinner for drinks, and got to know each other well. That's the great thing about this web site. You travel alone but you are really in a "group" with no strings attatched. Grace
ghlinger Posted April 7, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Have to ditto what Cruise pup said. We met on 2nd day (first sea day), immediatly after the life boat drill. The turn out was so large the picture had to be taken on the stair case. Food was definitly a secondary item. Had a second, not ship sponsered, meeting at the bar on our last sea day. CruiseDiver Posted April 7, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 7, 2004 I guess I can agree with Cruise Pup as far as it not being a catered affair, my wife would not agree. Our CC party, on the Summit, was at 10:00am on a sea day with pastries provided. We had a good time meeting mingling. A hostess was there with a photographer and rushed us to take our picture before everyone showed up, because they had to attend another affair. Our main CC poster, Darlene, didn't get in the picture because the hostess & photographer rushed off. When we were on Royal Caribbean's Sovereign of the Seas, our CC party had huge shrimp, caviar, huge strawberrys covered in chocolate, cheeses, champain, memosas, other fruits, and finger foods. The hostess was there with the captain, the enviornmental engineer and other crew members. The captain and crew went around and spoke to everyone with a special congrats to someone on their 50th cruise. This was a great CC party and ages are welcome. Our senior cruisers always have some great storys to tell and first time senior cruisers can learn alot. No matter what's served, you'll have a great time. AlpacaRanchr Posted April 8, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Who said anything about a "catered affair". I just thought maybe a glass of punch or a tray of cookies might have been nice... otherwise, why bother to say its a party.. it's really just a room to gather in... Now the captains cocktail party is a PARTY! Mia.
PatC Posted April 8, 2004 #13 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Our cc party on Summit the weeks of 3/15-26 was great. So many showed up, our cruise rep stayed the entire time to answer questions and the best was Don Fluke who came and stayed until almost everyone had left. He was wonderful, personable and very friendly. He was very visible also. We'd sailed on Zenith with him a few years ago and he remembered our "memorable turn" in Martha's Vineyard. I'd rate him very high on the C.D. list right now. Didn't think so before but he's greatly improved. Rare Lois R Posted April 8, 2004 #14 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Hi Ultimately, the CC "get together" is what you make it. My first Century cruise we had about 30 show up and they served juice, coffee, danish, etc. My last 2 cruises we didn't have enough people signed up for an "official party". I met most of the folks on the Century in January anyway. And on the Mercury..well, most of you know about our wonderful group already . We met almost every day....either at Trivia or just in the Navigator to chat a bit. Mia..so sorry your "gathering" wasn't what you had expected. I understand sometimes expectations are high and when something doesn't measure up..no matter if it is party or not...it can be a let down. I do hope you had a wonderful time on the Century anyway. Next up...HORIZON Sept 18th to Bermuda! catmand Posted April 8, 2004 #15 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Just the fact that Celebrity acknowledges Cruise Critic people and offers to keep track of and send invitations to the members on board meant a lot to me. Not all the cruise lines do this. Our "party" was 11 am. the first sea day, which was our second day onboard. They had soft drinks and cookies, pastries but it was meeting everyone that made the "party". A number of us that were posting on the roll call sent photo's to one of our group...Karen...MISSYLOU....and she posted them on her webshots site. The first morning on board DW and I were walking thru the buffet and a couple walked up to us and knew us by the picture, I was so suprised...it was Chris & Rob and from then on every day and then some we bumped into them on board, we would always stop talk for a few and go on our way...or hang out for awhile.....that to me is what makes these boards so much fun. You are never to old or to young so as others have said, jump in the roll call and register for the "party". MISSYLOU Posted April 8, 2004 #16 Share Posted April 8, 2004 I agree that the CC get together is what you make of it. It is meeting all of those folks you have chatted and joked with for so many months. You have shared your excitement with them and by the time you cruise you feel like you know them all. It's like any other new social engagement, you can sit by the wall and wait for the entertainment to begin or you can get out there and start the meet n' greet. Not everyone is going to hit it off but for the most part everyone seems to really enjoy themselves. At least that is our experience. And for the entire cruise, where ever you go on the ship you can always wave at your new found friends or have a drink with them. Kind of like sitting on the front porch at home or the local neighborhood bar. Just sharing a nice experience. Great way to meet others. Good job Chuck and Lois. JORAY Posted April 8, 2004 #18 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Ditto on the post above that the CC party is what you make of it. We have been to 4 and every time the people we talk to on these threads were there and it becomes a social get together. We have developed some great "cruise" friends and schedule some our cruises to be with them - In fact in Sept TA we will have made 3 cruises with one of the "Cruise" Friends. Nanatravel Posted April 10, 2004 #19 Share Posted April 10, 2004 Our CC party on Millie was at 11 a.m. in Michael's Club with coffee, juice and pastries been available for everyone to enjoy. People of all ages and backgrounds including teens should attend and meet others even just for an hour. We had about 35 people attend out of 70, but many who "forgot" also met at a sail away gathering out on deck on Sunday. It was really nice to meet and greet people during the cruise. bsails Posted April 13, 2004 Author #22 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Thanks everyone for your input about the CC party. We will register for the party as soon as we get our reservation number from the TA. If any senior shows up for the party with braces and/or tremor, DH and I will buy you and spouse a drink. Barb Pacific Coast/Alaska 14-day cruise in only. . . nywritestuff Posted April 13, 2004 #24 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Our Cruise Critic party on the April 3 Connie sailing had a lot of people signed up. So many that the captain even came by for a brief visit, which was terrific. Unfortunately, VERY few people showed up and I felt bad for the captain who probably expected more PAX. We stayed for a half hour but left early only because we had scheduled a spa appointment before we received our invitation. I just hope more people attend these events, they are a wonderful way to meet people. We had coffee at our CC gathering. Like I said, we would have stayed much longer if we hadn't scheduled that spa appointment.
