Questions from a first time "waxer"

I am really considering having legs and bikini waxed before our upcoming cruise.

I am wondering how long the hair needs to be to have it waxed?

Are there different types of waxing products that are used? If so, what should I be looking for?

When making the appointment do I need to ask any questions?

Any other info/tips would be appreciated.

TIA

Hi, I just wanted to mention that Tend Skin is a great product for you to use after waxing for ingrown hair. Well, not right after waxing but rather a few days after.

I am sure others can answer your other questions better than me. Good luck!

Do it at least once PRIOR to your cruise---don't have your 1st waxing right before!

That way, you'll see how long it lasts, how much (if any) "aftercare" you may need to do....

Mine doesn't last an entire week....(hair grows VERY fast), so I still need to shave at some point during the cruise!

1/2 inch long hair. Not sure I can go that long without shaving. DH would probably pitch a fit. I can get through the pain and even though my leg hair grows really fast....I am not sure I can do it. I shave every day so I might try skipping a couple days just to see how long it would take and how bad it is.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate the info.

hair should be 1/4 inch for a good wax. but bear in mind, that when you swith from shaving to waxing, you'll still have whats call second growth, so you won't be completely smooth until after a few waxs. exfoliating before you go for the wax will remove the dead cells, and really helps to prevent ingrowns. make sure you for a patch test so you'll know if you have any reactions. hot wax applied with a spatula is usually the best results. and no lotions, sun of any kind, hot water for 24 hrs after wax, they should tell you all that at the salon. and yes, some pain pills before you go REALLY makes a diference, takes the sting off. and don't worry if it hurts too much the first time, you really do get used to it!!

I began waxing before my first cruise last November. I'm completely hooked. I do my upper legs and bikini. It does hurt, but it's worth it not to have to worry about shaving during your cruise. Plus, shaving always breaks me out in my bikini area.

I second the TendSkin product. It really works well and is worth the $ 10-15 I paid. I would also strongly recommend that you do some research and find a good spa in your area. Word of mouth can be the best way to find one.
