1337mom Posted February 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Taking the Emerald on 4/29 to Copenhagen - how are passports/customs handled getting on and off the ship at the various stops. Are there long lines and does anyone have any tips: for like having a backup passport in case it becomes lost during an excursion?
Pam in CA Posted February 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2009 What is your itinerary? What are your ports? Are you taking a transatlantic to Copenhagen? Taking a cruise to/from Copenhagen? The answer(s) to your question really depend on the ports you're going to. For example, if you are going to St. Petersburg, you'll need your passport with you and if you don't have a ship's tour or independent tour pre-booked, you'll also need a Russian visa. Are there long lines and does anyone have any tips: for like having a backup passport in case it becomes lost during an excursion? My sister is travelling alone on this trip - any other single women going? For the trans-Atlantic, none of the stops require you to take your passport when you get off the ship at the various ports. You will need to take a photo ID (which can be your passport if you wish) as some ports may require that in addition to your shipboard cruise card in order to get back into the port area. No customs issues at any of the ports either. Long lines are possible getting back onto the ship if many people are returning at the same time since evryone has to go through security, sometimes twice, once for the port and once for the ship. 1337mom Posted February 6, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Thank you good to know. My only concern was that if we have free time from the group - is there ever a need to have my passport? (like if I get seperated?)
cruiseryyc Posted February 6, 2009 #7 Share Posted February 6, 2009 You should always carry your passport with you; if you get separated from your tour and miss the ship; then you have to find your own transportation to the next port. You will need your passport then.
regnig Posted February 6, 2009 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2009 I would suggest instead of your actual Passport make a copy of it, have it laminated and then carry that with you.
paul929207 Posted February 6, 2009 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2009 The only time I have had to stand in line for passport check was in one of the public rooms where everyone was checked before the ship was cleared.
