LadyLeo84 Posted March 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2009 We will be going on our first Princess cruise this June. We are avid iced tea drinkers and have had a lot of really bad-tasting tea on the different ships that we've been on. So, we would like to try and find out in advance what to expect before we get on board this summer. Does the tea on Princess taste more like real brewed tea or more like the syrup stuff that's dispensed from a fountain?
cdngrl Posted March 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2009 it tastes like real brewed tea, to us anyway. (we are fans of the syrup kind! :)) we call it american iced tea.

Well, let me just say that what we do is brew hot tea onboard and then pour it over ice. The iced tea ranks about the same as the syrup coffee in our opinion. :(
Nana G Posted March 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2009 I am addicted to ice tea and Princess passes. I make better at home year round but ob board it will due. Not sweet and tea tasting.

davidnsteph Posted March 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2009 The plain iced tea has not been great on any of our cruises with Princess. But after doctoring it up with lemon and Equal/Splenda, it ends up tasting pretty good. DavidnSteph
rcacace Posted March 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 7, 2009 My wife is always brewing her green ice tea & pouring it on ice every time we're in the Horizon. She can't stand the taste of the regular stuff. Me, I can't see the difference.
Colo Cruiser Posted March 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Tastes fine to me. Oh yeah I like the coffee too. :D
captainron Posted March 7, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 7, 2009 On my Princess vouages I have found both the quality and taste of the iced tea standard from one vessel to another. The taste itself is similar to "Sun tea" that you see a lot in Arizona, but ther are no sweeteners added. As another poster has indicated adding lemon and a sweetener might be more suitable to some folks' tastebuds. Cheers. Ciao for now!!!
readytogo2 Posted March 7, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 7, 2009 I fill the glass with lots of lemon and ice and then add some sugar ....Better than the premixed powdered stuff that so many people buy:)
Coracii Posted March 7, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 7, 2009 I haven't been overly impressed with the tea on any cruiseline, but it would take a lot to impress me since I brew my own from loose leaf jasmine tea on a very regular basis. I am a bit of a tea snob, anything that comes in little bags with a string attached just doesn't cut it, has to be leaf tea... Like all my cruises, I'll be bringing along my own. I wouldn't call you a tea snob...you just like specialty tea and that's what you got used to:)
Ethel5 Posted March 7, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Actually, the iced tea is pretty good. It has improved greatly in the past few years.
SingerEsq Posted March 7, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 7, 2009 If you like brewed iced tea, you probably will not like the tea on Princess. My partner drinks his iced tea without sweetner or lemon or anything else. (Blick). He's a hard core tea drinker (Starbucks black, no added water, little ice). Like Toto, he orders hot tea and a glass of ice every time. Takes a little longer, but he cannot stand the syrup kind.
dmlee1990 Posted March 7, 2009 #15 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Do you have to pay extra for iced tea, like you do for fresh brewed coffee? Thanks!
Toto2Kansas Posted March 7, 2009 #16 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Do you have to pay extra for iced tea, like you do for fresh brewed coffee? Thanks! I have never seen fresh brewed tea offered onboard a Princess ship. Unless you just make it yourself as described below.
dmlee1990 Posted March 7, 2009 #17 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Perhaps I didn't phrase my question correctly. I've read that the coffee made with the syrup is free, but you have to pay extra for freshly brewed coffee. Is there an extra charge for iced tea, or is it complimentary throughout the day, as well as in the buffet and Main Dining Room? Thank you! D&N LUV 2 TRAVEL Posted March 8, 2009 #19 Share Posted March 8, 2009 I just add a few pieces of lemon to it with lots of ice and it tastes fine. My friend just added sugar and he enjoyed it.
dmlee1990 Posted March 8, 2009 #20 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Thanks, Toto2Kansas! I love lots of lemon in my iced tea too. Hopefully, it will taste fine.
JoeysMama Posted March 8, 2009 #21 Share Posted March 8, 2009 I love ice tea and drink a lot but like lots of lemon. We were on the Crown over Christmas and I thought it was pretty good.
DonMar Posted March 8, 2009 #22 Share Posted March 8, 2009 I found the iced tea (and coffee) to be OK. I do not use lemon or sugar. I also found that the hot water - to make your own cup of tea - was nearly hot enough to make a good cup of tea - never mind iced tea. PS - you pay for brewed coffee at the International Cafe. kendon Posted March 8, 2009 #23 Share Posted March 8, 2009 It doesn't taste bad...it just doesn't have any taste at all. Kinda like colored water.
flamomo Posted March 8, 2009 #24 Share Posted March 8, 2009 I find the iced tea beverage on Princess ships too strong for my taste. I dilute it with about 1/3 glass of cold water to make it more palatable.

Even with sugar in it. I guess in Canada we are use to a different kind. Maybe bring some of the kind you like that is what I am going to do on next cruise. And then just order a jug of cold water to your room. I always try and bring a travel mug with us for drinks. KIM :):)
