Tipping Bartenders Extra

FortyParty

I know that when you order a bar drink, you are automatically charged 15% for auto tips. However, if you want to tip right there in person, do you just hand your bartender a couple of bucks or do you wait until the end of the cruise? Just trying to get a feel for how most of you tip bartenders extra.

If I find a comfy bar that I keep going back to...usually the casino bar...I'll tip the bartenders a coupla bucks during the evening.

I also tip the dealer at the Caribbean Stud table....win or lose.

It varies with us.

I usually leave it at the 15% auto tip for most service.

If a server has given us above average service and/or talked with us about themselves I'll give them a cash tip right then.

One cruise where we visited a specific bar on multiple evenings I gave the bartender an envelope with money the last night of the cruise rather than a little each night.

We are the same way. Usually just the 15%. If we feel like the bartender deserves more we give them an additional tip.

On our last cruise, I had hit the bar a few times before sailaway, we were on the ship early and I had a rapport going with one bartender, I gave him a $20.00 and he was my best friend all week, still gave him a bucks here and there all week as well.....

On the way to sailaway with the family, I'm walking by and hear someone calling, HI Mr Mike, ready for another

Capt & Diet....;)

Wife looks at me and sez,not on this ship 4 hours and I see you made friends already......:D And took the family over and introduced them to him

During the whole week, if he saw me or my family coming across the deck, there was one waiting for me or the family.......

My DH loves the little drink coupons, so he uses them, handing the coupon with a dollar at the same time. Always gets strong drinks, always in the carnival glass, no extra charge. He swears they are stronger too!

I tip them when I sign my S&S slip......15%. We always get great service. Never had a problem getting a drink.....

15% adds up quite a bit for each drink and they know it, that is why they are back as soon as you need another one;)

Don't feel you have to over tip to get great service........

My brother use to work on a cruise ship and he learned from working with the bartenders that if you tip them big once, that you will either get a loaded drink or they will charge you the cheaper stuff, but give you the high end liquor.

So basically then you are paying for that high end liquor;)

We always tip $1 cash extra for each drink served.

We always have had great service on any ship we have been on.

We usually sit in the same spots all the time so when we sit the waitstaff points to us if they aren't close by and we nod and next thing you know we have our drinks.

Last HAL cruise by the end of the first hour  the guy knew my name and cabin number - never had to pull my card out again the rest of the week and he waited on us by the pool and piano bar at night. On top of all the singles he got from us during the week we gave him and extra $40 at the end.

You can add more money for tip right on the receipt you sign when they bring you a drink. Like if your bill is 5.00, we will put +2.00 and total it to 7.00

Every cruise there is that one guy or gal that will be there out at the pool all day bringing you drinks, inside at night in the theater bringing you drinks, at the capitains/past guest party.. They always know what you want and bring it to you almost before you even sit down. I know 15% is alot, but i also know that my 2.00 here and 5.00 there helps them out a lot. If i got it, I give it.

I've had the same experience…..because I tip extra the servers in the lounges I frequent remember my name, folio number and drink preference before I know it....they see me coming and they are pouring my preferred wine ;)

You are actually paying $2.75 tip for a drink:confused: Good lord these servers make more then the servers in Vegas:p

We stay with the 15% and they know our name and folio number too;)

Hard for them to make my beer or wine stronger just because I tipped extra, isn't it?

You know, my goal in cruising is not to get strong drinks. I swear, it seems like half the threads here are all about booze.

I like to have a few drinks (ok, maybe several on some days), but it isn't the main focus of my cruise. I don't need my drinks made extra strong. I actually want to be able to remember what I've done on my cruise when I get home!

And the last thing I want is a hangover on my last day at sea (or when having to get up early to disembark).

Anyway, I tip extra when I feel it's warranted, which isn't all that often. I expect great service and have gotten great service 99% of the time without the extra being given. Great service is part of their jobs and they're being compensated for that.

I'm much more apt to tip my cabin steward or waiter a little more, as I feel they've provided the most "benefit" to me and they work their tails off.
