Family cabins?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I haven't cruised RC since 05. DH & I have only went RC as a couple, leaving kids at home. Well, even back in 05, we only had 2 kids. 06 brought us #3, so now we are a family of 5. We've taken the 2 older kids on DCL, but haven't taken the 2 year old yet. I've heard that maybe some of the RC ships (Freedom class?) had family staterooms that weren't the expensive suites. Is that true? I tried to do some sample bookings, but I kept getting a msg that said only 4 could book. Was I misinformed? And, if there are family staterooms as insides or porthole cabins, are they cheaper than getting 2 inside connecting cabins? Thanks for any comments or suggestions as its diffiicult planning for families of 5 or more!

I believe there are definitely family cabins for 5. I remember reading that you can not book them on line. You have to call RCCL direct to ask about them.

If I am mistaken, someone will come along who knows for sure and correct me.

EDIT:

Example,

If you look on the Liberty, Deck 8 in the bow you will see two family staterooms. ;)

Two twin beds (can convert into queen-size), sofa and/or Pullman beds, sitting area and private bathroom. (338 sq. ft.)

Please note: A minimum number of guests may apply. To reserve this stateroom, please contact your travel agent or one of our Certified Vacation Specialists.

Here are their pictures. ;) Click on them and they will enlarge.

Alexis, where do you find the layout pics of the staterooms? I've been looking for something like that for our family stateroom. We're in a Promenade family stateroom on the Liberty and I wanted to compare it to other staterooms.

OP, we are booked in a family stateroom for our upcoming cruise. We had an inside stateroom booked but while looking for a price drop I saw that they had opened the family staterooms to online bookings. They also allowed us to book it with only 4 in the cabin. I think that they only do this closer to sail date if they are not booked. They can sleep 6...a king bed, a sofa bed and twin bunks.

As a family of 6 (4 kiddos).....the cheapest route to go is to get 2 inside connecting rooms. Trust me, I tried every other possible combination. ;) They do have family suites, but they are a lot more expensive. We didn't mind 2 inside connecting rooms. Had 2 bathrooms and besides, we were hardly ever in the room, so I would've rather saved the money doing it the way we did than getting a family suite. :)

We booked an Promenade Family Stateroom for October. We looked into 2 interiors, but it would have cost us $600.00 more. You never know, but it never hurts to ask. It all depends on the sailing and how the prices are in the various categories.

Good Luck!!!

Just wanted to advise that the Voyager and Freedom classes have a few Balcony staterooms that connect with an Interior stateroom. And going along with the others, you'll appreciate having two bathrooms. :)

Ok, thanks guys! I guess when we pick out a sailing we want to do, we'll just have to price it various different ways to see which is the best option. I would have liked to do it all online though rather than calling in as I may have multiple date requests and such.

Our DS and DIL had a family promenade stateroom on the Indy in February and they loved it. And it was much cheaper then two adjoining rooms... which we had across the hall with our other son and DIL. However, you cannot book these rooms on line.. I had the same problem as you.. kept telling me you cannot book more then 4 in a room and you need to book more than 4 in a family stateroom. We did it thru our TA. The reservation was in two parts.. the first had 4 people, the second only 1. The third, fourth, and fifth passengers are much cheaper. Yes, it was like a suite (even had a bathtub) w/o the suite prices. I understand there are also 2 of these rooms on deck 2. ENJOY!!

Sorry, I never got back here to see your question.

When you look at the ships you want to sail, go to the deck plans and look for the family staterooms.

When you find them listed on the left side of the page, along with all the other categories, click on them and they will show a picture of the layout of them. ;)

Thank-you. I thought you were getting them somewhere else.... I tried some of the links on the RCCL webpage, but it says that there is no stateroom layout image available for the family staterooms.

That is odd because the ones I posted above came from the Freedom deck 8 plan? There are two of them in the bow.

Maybe only certain ships have them?

Can you tell me what ship you are looking for and I would be glad to do a little research if you would like?

We booked a family stateroom. They hold 6 members. You have to call to book them because they don't want people with less than 6 in room booking them. However, if they aren't sold out as the sail date gets closer, they open them to families with less than 6 people.

The room has a smaller bedroom in it with bunk beds. Its about twice the square footage of a standard outside cabin.

Thank-you. We're booked in a FI on deck 8 for our upcoming Liberty cruise. I looked for the Promenade Family stateroom layouts for the FOS and IOS...but they were showing unavailable image.

I said Freedom, I meant the Liberty deck 8 plan. Sorry about that.

Here is the FOS pictures of the Promenade Family stateroom and a thread about it. The second post down has the pictures.

I knew I had them saved once, so they had to be in the search somewhere on CC.

EDIT:

Read the last post down also about the inside and balcony cabin that adjoin. I have heard about them before.

That way there are two bathrooms if it is reasonable. ;)

Thank-you for taking the time to help Alexis. I've actually seen that thread and pictures. I shared them with my family and they're really excited. I was actually looking for the "blue print" type layout image that shows the birds eye view of the whole cabin. You posted a link to one above, but it isn't the same layout as "our" cabin. I am wondering what the layout difference is between the ocean view family staterooms that are on deck 6, 8 and 9 forward and the promenade family staterooms. Almost all the family staterooms are still available for our sailing and if one of them has a better layout maybe we'll switch/upgrade.

OK, now I understand. ;) I will be out most of the day, but I will do some research later.

I will see if I can come up with anything from the past on the layout images of cabins you want.

Sometimes 4 eyes are better than two. :D

I have searched every single thread, cruise websites and places I could think of hoping to find a layout of the family PR cabin. Nothing. I am a paid member of a site and figured maybe they would have it from when they were built. No luck.

I have a couple more ideas I will try tomorrow night.

If you find it, post on here. ;)

Alexis, Don't worry about it. You've been more than helpful. We have pieced together pictures in our mind and have a pretty good idea about the layout of our cabin. If you look on the deck plans the other family staterooms have long skinny shapes like the JS or are long and curved at the front of the ship. I think that we'll stick to the promenade cabin because we're excited about being able to people watch and see the parades. Thanks again for trying. :)

No problem, I am more than happy to try and help.

I think the Promenade cabin should be fun to "people Watch and Parade Watch." I know that would keep me entertained. :D

Enjoy!

We had one of the inside Family Promenade cabins on Liberty of the Seas last year. Basic layout is something like this....walk in the cabin door and the large bathroom with tub is on the right and a small bunk room with upper and lower bunks is on the left. There is a nightstand and small area to hang clothes in there but no TV (kids were disappointed). Continue into the cabin and to the right is a large armoire and a full size (queen?) pull out couch. To the left is the queen bed with nightstands & lights on both sides. To the immediate left wall is the desk/vanity area and a huge walk in closet (the closet space runs along the back of the bunk room area wall). There are 2 large promenade view windows with padded window seats and the area between them is a cabinet with a flat screen tv that rotates so you can watch from any area in the cabin. There is a drape that pulls across the middle of the room between the foot of the bed and the couch area for privacy. Not sure if this helps at all but the room was awesome!

I'm so glad that you liked the cabin. Were you able to watch the parades from up there?
