sunnysideup5 Posted April 12, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2009 Have read somewhere that some people (I think they were American) have been given a refund on the amount they have paid for their cruise due to a reduction in the price. Does anyone know whether the same would apply to the British? Has there been a reduction in the price and if so how do I go about getting my refund? Thanks. From what I've read here, policies are different overseas. I would suggest you call your Travel Agent if you booked through a TA. If not, call your local Azamara office. Hopefully, they will be able to assist. Good luck !
Rare uktog Posted April 12, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2009 Because the £ is less strong than it was, most reductions are offset by the adverse exchange rate. As Andy says unlike those in the USA it is not easy to get a subsequent reduction honoured in the UK - some agents will do it, others you have to battle with and some will not do it because of how they have originally booked with the cruise line
Ex-Airbalancer Posted April 12, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2009 The May 16 departure on the Journey appears to be increasing in CDN funds since we booked in Feb So where are these price deceases  :D
cruiseyguy Posted April 13, 2009 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2009 Azamara bookings must have picked up considerably since many of the senior and residence rates have disappeared. I guess it was a classic "snooze, you loose" situation.
Albert Ross Posted April 13, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2009 Have read somewhere that some people (I think they were American) have been given a refund on the amount they have paid for their cruise due to a reduction in the price. Does anyone know whether the same would apply to the British? Has there been a reduction in the price and if so how do I go about getting my refund? Thanks. Yes the brochure in the UK clearly states that price drops are honoured (1.9 in the T&Cs). The problem is that if you have booked via a high St TA they very very rarely honour this, and if they do there are many reports of people being charged an admin fee. Basically the TA earns less commission on a lower cruise fare which is why they are loath to do it. However, if you have booked with X direct or with one of the cruise specialists then you just call them and they should honour the price drop within minutes. The rules are that there have to be cabins left in your category, and that the new price code is not for new bookings only. Also if you are over 55 and they suddenly put on a Senior rate offer for your cabin grade then you are entitled to that too. Price drops are applied right up to sailing date, so even after final payment. It is your responsibility to watch the prices and if you spot a valid drop call immediately and get it applied. I check the prices on my forthcoming cruises every day, some do it more frequently than that. It is a case of 'you snooze you loose' (great phrase)! Good luck and let us know how it works out for you!

nevernever Posted April 28, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 28, 2009 As of 27 April, there have been significant reductions in the prices for several Azamara cruises. For example, there have been reductions of around AU$2,000 p.p. for 1A and 2A balcony staterooms on the 28 November Quest trip from Athens to Singapore. I'm pleased to report that the Australian office of RCI immediately passed on the full benefit for a booking my wife had already made for this cruise. We also kept the OBC previously granted. Maybe bookings for this cruise are still very low...my wife and i appear to be the only ones that have yet signed up for the Roll Call!! harryh Posted April 28, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 28, 2009 We are booked on the 9 April 2010 sailing Singapore - Athens and the price for that cruise has also recently dropped by A$3700 for our Sky Suite. We are hopeful our TA can get our price adjusted accordingly. Will post the outcome.
Paulchili Posted April 28, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 28, 2009 No such luck on our Sept 2010 B2B cruises on the Quest - but it's still very early; maybe as time goes by they will discount them (I hope).

maryann ns Posted April 28, 2009 #12 Share Posted April 28, 2009 I'm glad I keep checking here and with Azamara. I just upgraded my veranda guarantee to a booked stateroom on the Nov. 14 Quest sailing and for less money! I've been dealing direct with Azamara and they apply the price reductions easily and courteously. I had to wait a while to get through so people are busy booking or changing reservations. j!m Posted April 28, 2009 #13 Share Posted April 28, 2009 maryann thnx for the post just had t/a call AZ and obtained $1250 reduction on our 6/18 journey cruise and we have made final payment this practise is very costly for the cruiselines, not sure why they do it frankly. a deal is a deal and we were happy months ago when we booked and a few weeks ago when we paid. potentially ALL rooms are sold at sale prices. doesnt make sense to me. but what the heck if they are handing out $ i dont mind having some

Perhaps, in this economy, the cruiseline sees a great opportunity to introduce Azamara to a large number of cruisers by offering exceptional deals. Clearly, when the economy picks up so will Azamara's prices. The price reduction refund policy is a great PR tool. It encourages people to book earlier-rather than waiting for a better deal- and to become a captive audience for Azamara.
karolm Posted April 28, 2009 #15 Share Posted April 28, 2009 The cruise lines want to fill cabins. The extra charges, drinks and shore excursions make all the difference.
maryann ns Posted April 28, 2009 #16 Share Posted April 28, 2009 I agree that this is a great policy. along with the long wait time on the phone today, I should mention that there were very few 2A staterooms left to book. So even though I am all alone on our roll call, my husband and I will not be all alone on the cruise!

DebsUK Posted May 1, 2009 #18 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Hello harryh, Husband and I are also booked on the April 9,2010 Singapore to Athens. First time with Azamara. We only booked a week ago......had noticed a price drop at that time from the originally posted amount. Has it gone down again in the last week? Looks like a great itinerary and keen to give a new ship and cruise line a try. Deb.
shoshona2 Posted May 1, 2009 #19 Share Posted May 1, 2009 Hi Deb, Our cruise which is next month went down last week also and Azamara has credited our credit card with the difference since we had paid in full. It's nice to know that the cruise line does this. When you return from your cruise next year, please post a review since we are looking at that cruise for 2011. The itinerary is really interesting. Happy cruising! Sheila

It will be our first cruise on Azamara also. See you next year! harryh
nevernever Posted May 2, 2009 #22 Share Posted May 2, 2009 No idea when the price drop showed up for people in the UK, but the drop first appeared on the Azamara web site accessible to people in Australia on Monday, 27 April. Nevernever
shoshona2 Posted May 2, 2009 #23 Share Posted May 2, 2009 Hi Deb, We were Oceania three times and our friends have been on Azamara. They loved their experience. The ships are basically the same 670 passenger ships with little changes. We loved the informality -- no formal nights. No set time for dinner. Only two smoking areas!!!!! That means no smoking on verandas or in cabins. Celebrity just went to the same smoking policy last October. We usually sail on Celebrity and RCI and now will try their Azamara line. shoshona2 Posted May 2, 2009 #25 Share Posted May 2, 2009 Hi bbqbears, We're on the same cruise as you and we decided to move to a 2A cabin which was one deck down and the EXACT size as our 1A. We saved $3,000 for the cabin which we will use for our next cruise. Sheila
