Luggage Tags

First-time cruisers, just got our packet from Princess today. We received 3 luggage tags. Total for the 2 of us we are planning 3 checked bags and 2 carry-ons. Just curious why we got 3 luggage tags vs 2 or 4. If we had needed 4, just reproduce one?

Do I understand correctly that while we put our Sailing Date on the luggage tags, since we're going on a curisetour (tour first), our checked bags will ALL come with us to our first lodgings and then we'd get additional tags for "Meet Me at the Ship" vs "Travel with Me"?

Thanks!!

I think that if you flip them over, you will find another 3 luggage tags for a total of 6.

You should have gotten six total three per person. Thats what my husband and I got. But this still wasnt enough for me so I called Princess about getting extra luggage tags and the lady assured me that I could get as many as I needed at the pier, so dont worry. Yeah at first I thought that that meant my husband and I could only have six bags for nine nights...Not going to happen for me!

I thought I only received three as well. I called Princess and they sent three additional tags. Okay so now I have three blue ones and three white ones. Glanced at your reply today at work and decided when I got home to flip the original three over and guess what? Yes, I now have six blue ones. Feeling lucky I then flipped the white ones over and lo and behold three more white ones appeared. I am definitely hitting the casino when I get on board. Thanks for your help with this and yes I do feel a little stupid right now but I'm going on a cruise so it can't be that bad!!

Yep, that happens to a lot of passengers. :) :) I can't even guess as to how many have posted asking why they only received three luggage tags, until we all tell them to flip them as they are one sided, not two sided. Many think they are just three, two sided luggage tags. ;)

Six bags for nine nights, is not enough:eek: I can't imagine what you would do on a world cruise:rolleyes:

We only take one bag each for a 27 night cruise? Use the complimentary Elite laundry, reduces the amount of clothes you need to pack.

ALSO, I cannot recall how long before you sail do the luggage tags arrive in the mail?

Anybody help there?

Question...

I haven't cruised in the last three years so maybe things have

changed.

We used to have luggage tags sent to us by Princess that you

peeled off, and wrapped around the luggage handle. The Princess

logo, ship name and stateroom # were printed on the tag.

Ours have yet to arrive for our 3/17 cruise and I was told by the

travel agency that because they have a discount deal with the cruise

line these are available for "request" only.

So, upon "request" they are sending us BLANK tags.

The agency claims that the old printed luggage tags are no longer

in use because people upgrade their staterooms on the day of the

cruise. Now there are BLANK tags that you can write your stateroom

number and cruise ship name on.

Is this true?

Sounds like you need a new travel agency.....that is "hogwash" for the most part...but the tags are coloured, with the ship's name, and with an "F" or "A" for loading fore or aft, and you fill in your name, sailing date, and cabin number.

The upgrading on the day of the cruise is rare.......and you should be getting your tags with the other sailing documents.

Princess DOES send luggage tags that YOU fill out. I haven't seen a pre-printed luggage tag sent by Princess in YEARS (in fact, it's been so long I can't remember ever receiving a luggage tag from Princess already printed with our names, sailing date and cabin number on them). This is normal procedure with Princess. They are printed with things like Name:, Sailing Date:, Ships Name:. But you fill in the blanks.

But I agree, very rarely does Princess do upgrades at the pier, maybe your TA is thinking of other cruise lines such as RCI, which do a lot of those?

You should have received your luggage tags 30-45 days prior to your cruise.

Just keep in mind, if for some reason they don't arrive, it really isn't a huge problem. Luggage tags are available at the pier (we have forgotten ours a few times over the years :o). So, if they get hung up in transit for any reason, just ask when you arrive, they will supply as many as you need. ;)

The OP also asked about separate tags for "meet me at the ship" and "travel with me" for a cruisetour. I am doing an Alaskan cruisetour and am also interested in the answer to that part of the question.

Does anyone know if we have to have our bags packed separately so we can minimize the "active" luggage on the tour part of our adventure?

Thanks for any info.

Hi Les - received ours two weeks ago for Royal Princess sailing Venice 1st June. Not always easy to pick up tags at the pier - had trouble in Vancouver once and I would think Rome may be the same or worse!!

I'm trying for one bag each of 15 kg for one month's travels ...

  • 2 months later...

Husband and I are on Sapphire July 25th cruise 1st then tour and I am confused about this travel with me/join me onboard luggage. First, who out there brings two suitcases each? Husband says only one for him for entire trip with his backpack. For me, mine will surely weigh 50+ and then handcarry tote. What stays with me and what goes to ???land when I first board ship?? We have six tags from princess so I guess we won't be using many of them?? HELP:eek:

Two or three times I have forgotten my luggage tags OR they were so deep in the luggage I did not dig them out. Each time one of the luggage handlers was very nice about it; getting additional tags (I double tag all "cruise" bags that I surrender at the dock) and looked up my cabin number. I always carry a black permanent marker with me and write my name and cabin # on the new tags. I actually think the plain white generic tag arrives earlier to my cabin. I tag both of the handles, just to be safe...along with tipping the luggage guy.

Yesterday my newest cruise 'toy' arrived. A remote luggage locater. You attach the receiver to your luggage and switch it "on". When you arrive/disembark you simply press a button on the transmitter and your luggage receiver (locater) will flash and 'chirp'. I tested it and found it works from about 75 feet. Can't wait until I can field test it on my next cruise.

Happy sailing.

well, a) got my dox already for Sep 13, and b) WHERE did you get the luggage

locator? never heard of that one. Of course,I've been throwing away my Magellans

lately instead of looking through them. My latest gizmo was a digital luggage weighing

thingie...just hook it under the handle and lift. The weight stays on after you put the

luggage down....saves contortions trying to read it in the air.
