Here we go Again!

if you believe the law of supply and demand lie! It wont happen because unemployment hovering around 10 percent will artificially keep demand low. So lets speculate for a minute, North Korea is building nuclear weapons, um there has been a surge in violence in Iraq, Iran is saber rattling , Most major refineries are switching to the summer blends, Oh and my fav, the king of Saudi has a tooth ache. OK, so i am a little sarcastic! I am sure the heat wave we have today in tropical Medina has contributed to.

How long till we see fuel charges?

OPEC wants oil to reach $70 a barrel

The key word above is in bold red.

I want someone to pay for all of my vacations so I don't have to, but that is not likely to happen any time soon.

I don't understand why people get so worked up about $9 a day. If they would simply raise the price of the cruise to account for the $9 a day. Then no one would have to worry about fuel prices. People you are going on a cruise, spend $9 a day less in the casino and simply have a good time on your cruises.

Probably because people have budgeted so much money for certain things, and this screws up their budget.

We budget for our cruises to, but there are always theys that can come up. Airfare for one is always changing and could make a change to a budget. We have changed ours several times to add something we decided to do. Most people budget for their monthly bills too. I don't know about theirs, but ours seem to be going up from time to time. So, you change the budget. We don't do cruises two or three times a year or even once a year. We spend two years saving for one, and we feel lucky to be able to do that. So, trust me we know about budgets. It just a little crazy there are three posts on the page 1 of this site.

I think they should just raise the prices. I think the surcharges, they think no one will add them in when they are deciding about their price and its a sneaky way to raise prices. I agree, just add them on to the cruise fare.

I for one dont want to have to worry about how much fuel is going to cost the week I cruise. I want a fixed rate.

Certainly I would prefer NOT to have the fuel surcharges return.

But....IMHO, if the budgets are really that tight...then maybe this is the wrong kind of vacation for them :o. If $126.00 is going to make or break their ability to go - then could they really have afforded to go at all ??

And the over four hundred thousand registered Cruisecritic members want Crude to remain at $ 60 or lower. ;)

We are the consumers of the end product and as long as we work at keeping demand low

presumably the price will follow suit,no?

Therefore no crazy driving all over this summer.

-not if you want to keep Crude under $70/bbl.

Unfortunately, that is the case for many cruisers but i guess when your hooked on cruising you scrape up every dime just to be on that ship.

In my case...I just don't want to pay that extra Bill, when my cruise is already payed in full, i would much rather just have them add it in to the price of the cruise before i pay, not any difference but I don't think people would complain as much about it.

If you watch the news you will see that we are driving less and demand is lower but there greed is very high. there is nothing we can do about it. complaining does not work, but we get poorer as the gas companies reap the benefits. and one more thing how is it we pay almost 3 dollars a gallon here and in venezuela it .30 cents in Iran its cheap but in Iraq its expensive? thats our goverment at work

You would to if the only OTHER thing you had to export was sand.:D

This is purely a supply & demand issue. OPEC controls the supply and cuts the supply whenever the demand drops to a certain level. We could defeat this OPEC control by providing a GREATER SUPPLY of oil by drilling off the west coast, in the gulf, and ANWR, but the POWERS THAT BE have consistently blocked any progress in that area as well as clobbering any attempts to build nuclear power plants (we shouldn't be using ANY FOSSIL FUELS to generate electricity). Don't get me started.

Im another for drilling and trying to end this dependency on countries that hate us. Its not even a supply and demand issue, as inventories of oil reported on thursday were way up, thats why the price dropped, then goldman sacs made a bullish call that they thought the price would rise, they said so up went the price of oil (based on a future price by a broker).

Oil Companies on average earned 8.3% on sales last year.

there is nothing we can do about it. complaining does not work, but we get poorer as the gas companies reap the benefits.

American Oil Companies own less than 6% of their sources of oil. They have to pay the "world price" for their oil as well.

and one more thing how is it we pay almost 3 dollars a gallon here and in venezuela it .30 cents

Nationalized oil companies that are heavily subsidized by the government. This actually means those that don't drive pay for the gasoline of those that do drive. Socialism at work.

in Iran its cheap but in Iraq its expensive? thats our goverment at work

Iran actually IMPORTS much of its gasoline as it has only ONE refinery and can't meet its own demand.

Change your government by electing people who understand the simplest of economic rules, Supply and Demand, and take the necessary steps to alleviate that situation.

It's not OPEC that is doing this....it's the speculators and oil companies on the stock market doing it.

After all, Exxon must make it's 64 BILLION dollar profit again this year.....
