That is funny StillMysty! My bags are usually overstuffed, and Heather's usually got extra room... boy does she give me hell when I commandeer her extra space for all the shopping I do on vacations :)

We went from Winter to Summer here too, I sure hope Alaska feels like spring. I've been working outside all day, and sweating, I am ready to go rub up on some glaciers!

<not packed> but ready to go! I plan to pack this Thursday! You may hear me complain about weight limits then :)

Good Morning ALL!

The Spirit is on her way to Alaska! On the cruise ship locator, she looks like just like a little red dot in a big ocean, she is about parallel with Washington on her way to Vancouver. She leaves there on Wednesday to meet us in Seattle!

The 10 day forcast sounds like we might have good weathre for our cruise.

Skagway is in the mid to high 50 all this week. Juneau is in the low to mid 50 during the day. Our weather for Seattle looks wonderful! Saturday and Monday mid 60's, Sunday few showers; but still in the 60. Sounds like Great weather to start our Aventure NORTH!

Will anyone be doing a "live from" day-to-day review while on the cruise?

Check out our food! menus

"These are current - from a 12 day cruise, but the 7 day menus are within

(d71 - d77)"

How much different do you think the menus will be for an Alaska cruise?

I hope you all have safe travels getting to Seattle, and I know you'll have a great cruise! :D

AHHH!!! 1 week from today and we'll be in Seattle!! Great news about the weather, Annette, but of course we can make the best of it no matter what :)

Well, I mustered up the energy to get out the luggage today, but nothing has gone in them yet!!! Ugh, I hate packing. I did make a packing list and a list of things to do before leaving, but it's getting that done that's the hard part. Oh, and did I mention DH and I close on a house on Friday!!! SO MUCH STRESS!!!

Ok, now I got that out. I did get some motion sickness pills and bug spray, and DH and I got a new camera and 1 more memory stick for it. Also, laminated and hole punched the luggage tags and got my formalwear drycleaned. Scratching some stuff off that list one by one, but still got a lot more to do.

I'm sure you all share my stress. Hopefully you are more organized that me.

Try Ivar's at the waterfront, they have a walk-up fish & chips, where you can kick back on the side of the place (they have little tables) and feed the seagulls your fries, very entertaining! Or you can go into the restaurant if you prefer indoor dining. Food is good in both, if you ever saw Steven King's Rose Red, it was the place "sister" worked. :)

There are more good eats around the Pike Place Market and the Hard Rock Cafe just opened a couple of months ago in the downtown area.

I ♥ Seattle! :D

Thanks for the tip, sounds like a great place to stop when we are around the waterfront!

Normally I don't pack this early but with working hours to make up for taking off half a day Friday..... I do have the checked baggage packed but not the carry on. One is 35 lbs and the other one 50.10 ; hopefully they will let that go. If not I pull one item out!

Great news agout the house but that is close. I still have to laminate the luggage tags, thanks for reminding us!

Ivars does sound interesting have to see if they have a web site.

I'm back. They do have a website and if you visit and give them your e-mail address, they give you a coupon for $5.00 off. Now ot go check it out. Just wanted to share.

Thanks for that! Printed out the coupon. The place looks delicious, hopefully we'll get a chance to use it!

There have been several threads recently about them taking the power cords out of luggage. Don't know how true they are. I do have a Bi-pap Machine so I called and registered with Guest Service which I have never done in the past. They sent me a letter and advised me to put it and my powercord in my carry on not my checked luggage.

I got a patch, not that I have ever used one in the past but thought it might be good to have in case some in my family group needed it also. My daughter bought the arm bands. She has been on one cruise in the past (10 yrs ago) and did get ill. Her husband has not cruised before.

We always bring a power strip to plug in all our chargers and electronic items. Never had any problems with them being taken out of our luggage.

My mother in law got the patch that goes behind your ear for sea sickness. I got meds to calm me down for the flights:D

Single digits is awesome! I only have 2 & 1/2 days of work left. I can't even think at work, I am all vacation mode. My employees are so sick of me.

Seasickness... Funny story. This couple swears by ginger pills. (From any drug store in the vitamin isle.) One of them got up in the middle of the night because the ship was rolling pretty heavy. She was feeling sick, woke up, threw up, and took the ginger pills. She then woke up her partner out of a deep sleep so they could take ginger too. haha - if I'm sleeping, I'm not sick... I think my friend will never live this down.

My MIL took dramamine for one of her cruises. While she was in the casino, she lost eye sight, and had to have an employee help her walk back to her cabin. She lost an entire day the next day due to issues. Lesson: check with your doctor, and try out any medicines/vitamins/patches while on land, so if you have a reaction, at least it doesn't ruin your vacation.

I still need to go buy hiking shoes/boots & break them in... I am running out of time & I think that's a good thing :)

I got skeecher's shape up for my hiking shoe. They are very comfortable.

I have read several suggesting ginger for motion illness. I tend to get ill after the cruise not on it. It's really weird, I think my middle ear adjusts and then when I get off it is still moving, so verti-go for a few days after the cruise.

I am with you, if I am sleeping, I am OK!

Happy Monday All!

On the two cruises I've taken before, 1 of them I took dramamine and the other I took ginger pills. Both were about equivalent, except I stopped taking the dramamine on the first cruise and ended up real sick for the formal night.

I bought dramamine for this cruise, since it's a real medicine and is FDA approved. Not saying there's anything wrong with ginger, just that I'd rather error on the side of caution and get something that I know works because a doctor told me so :). I'm more concerned about the small boats (ferry in Seattle, fishing in Ketchikan, whale watching in Juneau) then the cruise ship, since I'm sure it will be very calm along the inside passage.

Good Evening fellow Carnival Spirit cruisers! I am sailing 3 weeks after you, on 6/1/10. I was hoping you all could help me and let me know the answers when you get back. I have read what is the usual/norm but I would like to know what is actually your experience. Could you tell me:

1. What time is embarkation? For VIPs?

2. Is there a Happy hour? What are the drink prices?

3. What is the DOD price?

4. Since you are the first Carnival Spirit cruise of the Alaska season, could someone get an extra Fun Times every day, and then scan and email them or snail mail them to me? Menus would be nice too, but the Fun Times are more important.

5. How did they display the photographs? On the Carnival Dream they have multiple touch screen displays set up in and near the photo display areas for you to look at your photos (I think they had the regular printed ones, too.) Is this on the Carnival Spirit yet?

6. Could someone measure the fridge? Both the door and the inside. The fridge on the Oosterdam the wine bottle had to lean over in the door.

I appreciate any answers you could give me. Thanks and I hope you all have a great time! :D

I thought of another question:

7. Could you find out how much the wine packages are and what wines are in each? I think they are different for different itineraries/length. Thanks!

Ok, so I'm starting to get concerned now about being off the ship in time for our excursions. Did anyone else book independent tours in or Ketchikan? If so, what time did you book them for? Because of the short time in port, I booked the Ketchikan tour at 7:15 (ship in at 7:00). The one in Juneau is at 8:30, and we dock at 7:00, so that should be ok. Ugh...stress!

From what I have read we will be docked by the time we get up. We have one booked at 7:30 with Dynea Dave in Skagway. I will have to check to see what time ORCA is book for in Juneau! I know they are all early, early!

We are doing Orca Enterprises in Juneau, too!! We have to be there by 8:30am, but the ship docks at 7:00 so no biggie on that one.
