Bacon Police on the Glory

OOPS! I think I originally put this in the wrong place! Forgive me, I'm a rookie at this board thing.

Just got back from the Eastern itenerary on the Glory. This was our seventh Carnival cruise. We noticed something new. They now have bacon police at the Lido breakfast buffet. (I think my doctor may have had something to do with this). Yep, you can't serve yourself bacon any more - everything else is the same, you have spoons or grabberdingers to get the eggs, pancakes, etc.; you just can't get your own bacon, sausage, or ham slices. There is a cook standing there and when you ask for some bacon he/she gives you a couple of slices, that's it. If you want a little more, you have to sort of beg for it.

Be very careful about choosing one of the cabins on the extreme aft end of the ship. We were right on the back, looking at the wake, and the noise and vibration were unbelievable. I was worried about getting shaken baby syndrome and going deaf. If you're trying to sleep in a little bit on the port call mornings, forget it. The thrusters are ear shattering and will rattle you right out of bed.

Couldn't help but notice that Carnival definately has adopted a look the other way approach to smoking on board. All week long we saw smokers on the port side and you couldn't walk down our corridor without smelling the smoke. One day I actually saw the resident on one cabin laying in bed with the door propped open just smoking away. Maybe next time I'll carry our kitchen fire extinguisher with me just in case.

Staff were all wonderful. Our Asst Waiter(ess) Irina was without a doubt the best we have ever seen. Embarcation was perfect, we pulled into the parking garage at 11:06 and were sipping our first umbrella drink way less than an hour later. Debarcation was a little better than in the past, they kept the elevator lobby area on deck three clear so that when your number was called you didn't step off of the elevator into a stagnant pool of humanity. We were on the gangway within five minutes of our zone number being called.

Other than the couple of little annoyances I mentioned above, cruise was great. Can't wait for the Dream to come into Canaveral though, not a big fan of the layout of the Glory.

LOL...They did this on the Triumph too!

To the original poster, we just got off the Glory and you were correct, the bacon police was in force. However, a couple of times during the cruise, the "bacon police" fell on their duties. I believe we were in St Maarten and on that day we got to get our own bacon. The other was on disembarkation day.

We were booked in the aft with Cabin 8429(8C) and would not book it again. Our problem was with constant noise from the tables from above. There was some vibration, but that was not that bad for me. Was booked in the aft and above the lido deck on the Liberty and did not have that problem. It seemed the worse between 11:30pm and 1:00am.

Overall, very good cruise. Very friendly crew and overall good service.

No, you can get all you want - they just try to make you feel guilty I guess.

I noticed this for the first time on Triumph in December. I don't mind a bit....you can have as much as you want. It sure must cut down on waste. We've all seen abandoned plates around the buffet areas with piles of wasted food (including bacon).

It's just a shame that some folks think they have to gorge themselves at every eating opportunity simply because "it's free" or they've paid for it.

Some of us have never left the adolescent stage, I guess.

Smoking is allowed on both sides of the ship, even though some tell you it's restricted to one side. Every room except the spa rooms can be smoked in from what I understand. If you get caught smoking in them you get fined $250.00.

On the Glory, it depended on who passed the pork. The first day at sea, went up to the Lido deck and the gentlemen beside me asked for more bacon, he got the same amount as me. Later on, one of the crew members would ask passengers if they wanted more. It was a matter of who you got.

I think that the bacon police are not at all stations all of the time, I was on the Glory May 2 to 9th and only saw the bacon police twice. I was pleased to discover I could have bacon or sausages added to my omelet. Yummy!

My husband is a bacon lover and when we were on Glory 2/28-3/7/09, he just asked for a couple more slices and they were given to him. I, on the other hand, love ham and I asked for 2 slices and got them. I agree that lots of people wasted the breakfast meats and now Carnival "rations" it.

As far as smoking, every cabin can have smoking in it. I know we were on the port side and when we walked down the hall, near the rear elevator, it smelled like someone smoked 24/7. It was really stronger smelling in the hallway.

I wish that the cabins would become non-smoking as they are on some other lines. But, then the smokers would be out on their balconies smoking all the time. I do believe at some point that the cabins and balconies will become non-smoking areas and that all smoking must be done up near the pool on one side of the ship and a couple of lounges.

I also wish the casino had a couple of non-smoking nights as some other lines have. Before anyone tells me I should sail those other lines then, I happen to like Carnival, just not all the smoke.

They had a bacon server on my last two cruises, so its not real new. I saw it back in January first on Ecstasy, then more lately on Conquest. You can pick and choose which are the crispier pieces yourself anymore lmao.

They will give you all you want.

What lines have these nights. I would love to go on them.

Royal Caribbean has had two nights of a 7 night cruise with the casino non-smoking. They were the two formal nights. I haven't been on any RCI ship since October, so I don't know if they are still doing this. It had been posted on the RCI board many times.

On the RCI ships I have been on, even the bar area wasn't smoky like it was on Glory. On Glory, as soon as we walked into the casino, we could really smell the smoke. On RCI, it wasn't like that at all. Perhaps the air circulation was a lot better, as we sailed on many RCI ships and the smoke situation was far less smoke.

RCI also has no smoking in any of the cabins. Celebrity has no smoking in all cabins and also on the balconies. It's been a few years since we sailed Celebrity, so I don't know about their casino.

We have seen this happening since 11/08 Holiday, also 01/09 Fantasy and on the infamous cruise to nowhere 04/09 Ecstacy. Fiancee just keeps holding his plate there. He is a tall, hefty football player kinda guy. The server looks up and sees him and no problem getting more. :) Guess they figure he is for sure going to eat it. I have tiny, dear, female friend that can out eat him! She just makes extra trips.

Love that bacon!

I am sure that it is happening fleet wide. We saw it on the Splendor in November and the Spirit in February.

But, Firefly may be on to something. The "waste" could be what gets broken up - and then is not servable - when guests serve them selves.

Either way....it's not a big deal....they will give you more, if you ask.
