"You can lead a horse to water"..."you can't teach on old dog new tricks"....and in the famous words of Forrest Gump..."stupid is as stupid does" Sorry I have a zero tolerance policy for stupidity. I will stick around, thanks.

Well, I can understand you zero tolerance for stupidity. But who knows? This person can be pulling your chain. LOL!

I am glad to hear you are sticking around. We like to interview this guy more and want you to be here. :D

I never valet park. It is usually quicker to get my car when I leave than to wait for someone else to get it. Besides, I can always find free parking anywhere I go.

DON

Okay. Let me ask you this.

Let's say you are at a nice restaurant. You have to go to the bathroom and once you finish the call of nature you go up to the sink to wash your hands. As you wash them the bathroom attendant squirts some soap in your hands. Then when you are finished he hands you a towel. Do you give him a tip for this? Or instead do you finish your business and wait until he isn't looking and sneak out of the bathroom without washing your hands? Inquiring minds wanna know! :D

I don't tip the dealers because they make small wages (or anyone else for that reason). I tip the dealers when they go above any beyond. their job responsibilities are to keep the game going. However some of them tell jokes, strike up a conversation, or maybe they "squeeze" your cards because you only looked at the first 2 cards and you might have a huge hand. That kind of stuff to me is well worth a few bucks. I have tipped when I am losing as well as when I am winning if the dealer is making my time at the table enjoyable for me. I have also bought the casino staff a drink when they get off work. They can be a really great time to hang out with and you can get some inside information about the islands and sometimes some really funny ship gossip.

The same thing goes for any staff member. The more they go above and beyond the more I am willing to throw their way. After all that is the entire concept behind tipping.

I'm all in.

OK I have one.

Last cruise I hit about a $700.00 jack pot on a slot. (I don't normally play slots) The guy had to come over and pay me with big bills. I tipped this guy a 10 spot just to give me my winnings and reset the machine. Is this standard operating procedure?

It is customary to tip and a ten spot is fine. Some folks like Don wouldn't even give a tip. LOL!

Don what would you do in this situation if you won the $700? Pee in the cup and give it to the coin lady after she pays your winnings because you were to cheap to get up and go to the bathroom while you were playing to avoid tipping the bathroom attendant? HAHA! :D

So you paid a guy $10 for his 5 minute effort of carrying your money from the cage to you. Do you realize that $10 for 5 minutes of work equals $240 per hour salary. Do you get paid $240 per hour to do essentially nothing? Would you like to be?

Jeez Don - it does not work that way. The guy that brought over the money does not get paid every waking moment of his life earning that kind of tip! You are applying analogies to a situation that do not apply. Wait staff in US have *always* been paid low taking into account that they would get tips.

unklez-I now understand Don. Check out his sign he has in his yard. It all makes sense now! :D

Hey unklez:

Hey did you know that Don does shoot craps? He would be able to offer a lot to the game and you can learn a lot from him. In fact he is a member of a club. Perhaps you would be interested in joining? Here is the club logo. :D

You guys do not think that paying some clown a few bucks to perform a sanitary function is is required is not extortion. How hard is it for you to squirt your own soap and to pull a paper towel from the roll?

One of the great things about countries such as Australia is that there are no people who have no discernible skills standing around expecting a tip for so nothing.

I am really glad I found this board, didn't know it existed until yesterday.

Don whats your stance on cow tipping?

Yeah it opened earlier this month. A bunch of us wanted it and I sent a msg to the admin recommending the section and it is here now! It is awesome and doing well. I imagine as more folks find out about it that it will become very popular. Spread the word.

I too like to know about Don's stance on cow tipping as well. HAHA! That was a good one! :D

Poor cows, they give and give their whole life, and not enough of us tip them. I may start a new thread on tipping the cows.

  • 2 weeks later...

I personally don't tip the dealer unless they are friendly, AND i am winning. After all, i usually lose enough as it is to casinos- i shouldn't have to help pay their employees salaries as well. It is sad that we have gotten to a point where jobs for casino dealers and waiters, etc pay so little because the general public is supposed to pay the rest:eek: Ideally, tipping SHOULD be for those who go above and beyond their job description to give you exceptional service that you will want to reward... and businesses should pay their employees a better salary as to not be dependent on tips. That being said, and seeing how it is not an ideal world, I do cave to society's expectation that i tip at restaurants, assuming that the waiter's attitude doesn't change my mind. Not so often at casinos, though. And seriously... why would you tip a bathroom attendant.. is there any job in the world more unnecessary.. not to mention awkward! :D

Sorry "Yo Eleven" this thread has the better of me.. for all of you non-tippers without exceptional service...male or female I don't care I must know.

Do you tip the person who cuts your hair?

Do you tip the manicurist?

Do you tip the mailman at Christmas time?

Do you tip the pizza delivey man?

Do you tip the guy who takes your luggage at the Pier?

Do you tip the Taxi driver?

Do you tip the bellhop in a hotel or carry your own bags to avoid it?

If your answer to any of the above is no...than you should really be giving extra money if you give any at all to a worthwhile charity, because you have alot to make up for.

Maybe it is just the New York City girl in me but this topic just wears away at me.

You are okay

mommy. You are not in the minority. Don't let foolishness, especially when we are dealing with a posting forum. Also remember some folks will post trash to get a rise out of people. Keep a smile on your face and speak your mind. But don't let anyone drive you bananas. LoL
