jimswims Posted June 13, 2009 #301 Share Posted June 13, 2009 When I left the ship yesterday, at around 10:45, there were no long luggage drop off lines, but there was a long line waiting to get in to the terminal. When I was there last week, I arrived about noonish, and there was a long long luggage drop off line but no line waiitng to get in too the terminal. (The other line was at the check in stations) Radio :rolleyes: Thank you for the info. We usually get there on the early side so this may be why I never noticed the drop off luggage line. Rare Radio Posted June 13, 2009 Author #302 Share Posted June 13, 2009 Are you able to post who else was at dinner with you and the staff? I'm assuming Sean was one of the officers. And thanks again for taking us all with, it was such a large cabin!! Tom We had dinner in a Private room in Cagney's with Captain Kenneth Harstrom, Hotel Director- Sean Wurmhoeringer, Food and Beverage Manager- Bernhard Schindlauer, Staff Captain, Cruise Critic members Margaret Carney, Maggie Cate Carney, Jay Cunha and Clare Donegan. . . What a great memory. . . travelerblue Posted June 13, 2009 #303 Share Posted June 13, 2009 Radio, Thanks so much for all the great posts and pictures. I saw a great picture of what used to be a hotel in Flats Village that I stayed in on a class trip exactly 30 years ago! It is no longer a hotel but it was awesome to see it again. We will be sailing on the Spirit on 7/17. I have a question about this Photo Frenzy I have read about. There seems to be confusion as to whether this is still available. I figured you would know having just sailed. Please let us know when you get a chance. And thanks again for the great updates each day.

Photo Frenzy was still available on NCL Spirit in May.:) It was $119 but if you intend to buy more than a very limited number of photos, it is probably worth the expense as individual photos are pricey.

I was going to post this pic but it seemed so sub-standard compared to Radio's pics LOL! Also, I didn't know if Radio liked traveling incognito! It really was a wonderful evening! The Staff Captain's name is Captain Grbic. He is very, very nice. Captain Harstrom, Sean and Bernhard were also just too wonderful for words. I don't know how NCL finds and retains such great employees but I am certain it is a key component to their success as a company. I felt, at each encounter with each of them that I was a guest on his own personal yacht - like in the movies but waaaay better! By the way, he he, technically, Maggie Cate's last name had been Cunha for two whole days when this pic was taken LOL! I suspect it was Staff Captain Grbic who docked the Spirit in Boston; watching that process from our cabin was a treat. Holy moly! I sweat, sometimes docking my little eighteen foot outboard! If there had been eggs perched on the pier bumpers (we call them bumpers there is probably a more nautical name for them LOL) they would have remained in tact, for heaven's sake. No small task with I think I remember from the tour 7,500 HP for the aft thrusters... It was such a pleasure to have met Radio. He is very sweet, has oooodles of info stored in his memory banks (though a bit time-challenged LOL!) He is just a pleasure to hang out with. I hope some day to cruise with him and Mrs. Radio! Thanks so much, Radio! Clare (and Co.) P.S. The Photo Frenzy was NOT offered on our June 5-12 cruise... I asked specifically.
kparker Posted June 13, 2009 #307 Share Posted June 13, 2009 Radio... What an absolutely amazing review and pictures of the beautiful Spirit and the most beautiful island I know, Bermuda. Thank you so much for taking the time to do do something like this for all of us who are impatiently waiting for our turn.

Thanks so much, Radio! Clare (and Co.) >SNIP< Boy was I embarrased :o. To make a long story short. . . We had decided to meet for Breakfast at Cagney's at 9AM. We were supposed to turn our clocks backward 1 hour, and I turned my watch forward 1 Hour. Oooops. . . I was at Cagney's at 7AM (Thinking it was 9AM), and was confused to why they weren't there ? The waiter told me what the real time was, and everything worked out. Clare and Margaret made the Cruise really fun for me. . . Margaret was an Angel, and Clare was a Doll ! ! I finally made it all the way home, and have alot of work to do. . . Dozens of Pics to edit, and post on my Album, and Cruise Critic. I have to Scan all of the Dailies. . . .and oh yeah make a video ! So stay tuned everyone. . . There is much more ;) Radio :rolleyes: Shanghai Bar Entrance (DECK 7 FWD) . DiviAruba Posted June 13, 2009 #311 Share Posted June 13, 2009 I am really getting excited about the cruise. Only 18 Weeks and 6 days.... In the main dining room, what are the restrictions for men? Do they still have formal nights? Is there a restauarant that you don't have to dress up but has the same food? It was like that on our last RCCL cruise. Does my husband need a suit or tie? On dress up nights we will probably not be in the dining room because neither of us like to dress. I will mostly be in sundresses (easy to pack and don't weigh much). Booked my return flight today. We booked a late leaving flight from NOLA (5 p.m.) getting into Boston about midnight, then we'll stay over in Quincy. So instead of staying the night before in Quincy, we will be staying the night we get back.

What NCL has on a few nights is a "Dress Up or Not" evening, so you never has to dress up even then. There is no need for a suit or tie and except for a restriction against shorts in one of the two free dining rooms, you can pretty much dress casually every evening. We even saw shorts in Windows one night so enforcement of even that minimal restriction may not be strict. Even in the fancier specialty restaurants such as Le Bistro and Cagney's, smart casual is usually the order of the day.:)

Tomct Posted June 14, 2009 #314 Share Posted June 14, 2009 Thank you. My husband will be happy. Welcome to NCL FreeStyle, you're gonna love it!! We kinda fell into our first cruise, and it was on the NCL Star, in Hawaii. We have never looked elsewhere, as NCL keeps exceeding our expectations. We recently returned from a May 1st cruise to Bermuda on the Spirit, and the ship, staff and Bermuda were great!!

DiviAruba Posted June 14, 2009 #316 Share Posted June 14, 2009 But now I see that they only have Pepsi products which I do not like. Can I bring a case of Diet Coke onboard? I was going to get the soda card, but probably won't now because of the Pepsi brand. Do all rooms have a refrigerator?
Don Haynes Posted June 14, 2009 #317 Share Posted June 14, 2009 But now I see that they only have Pepsi products which I do not like. Can I bring a case of Diet Coke onboard? I was going to get the soda card, but probably won't now because of the Pepsi brand. Do all rooms have a refrigerator? Yes you can bring soda aboard the ship, in Boston and in Bermuda. Only the suites have the small refrigerators on the Spirit, plus those who need them for medical reasons. But you can ask for one if there are more left. Frankly I have found these small refrigerators on every cruise ship don't keep the product as cold as I would like. I always end up using much of the ice from the ice bucket the stewards refill twice a day. If you drink a lot of sodas, and consume a lot of ice, I would bring one of those foldable ice chests and let the stewards refill it too.
travelerblue Posted June 14, 2009 #318 Share Posted June 14, 2009 See what I mean about the conflicting info regarding Photo Frenzy! It's there, it's not there. My weakness is the photos and this will be our 9th NCL cruise. We have never seen Photo Frenzy before, but it would have been PERFECT for us. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but I feel they may have ended it in May. Thanks for those of you who posted for me.

You really go all out and it is very much appreciated, as you can see from all of the feedback. I didn't even take notes on my last cruise, which is something I always do. (the old memory just isn't what it used to be) I wish I had since it was the first time cruising a line other than NCL in many years. At least I have my pics to try to piece it together! I will try to get back to it on our next cruise though. Jackie

big green Posted June 14, 2009 #325 Share Posted June 14, 2009 Radio-- I asked a question a few days ago about the MDR menus--if they are now like the Dawn --a fixed menu with one daily special for dinner--and a fixed men that does not change for lunch?? Also has the Cagney's lunch menu for suite/VIP guests changed to a fixed lunch menu that does not change on a daily basis--this is being reported on several NCL ships? Thanks Big Green
