On board Credit, make sure it's in black and white

Recommended Posts

We have just cruised on the Independence of the Seas (wonderful Cruise). We booked direct with Royal Caribbean and were given $150 on board credit per cabin early booking bonus. it didn't appear on any of our paperwork so I checked with our cruise specialist and she kept saying we didn't need it in black and white it was definitely on the system. I persisted and after lots of reminders she sent me an email confirming the credit. I am so glad I did because guess what the credit didn't appear on the ship! and the crew on reception have no way of sorting it so if you don't have proof you lose it, they said this happens quite often and causes a lot of upset. I still had to wait 3 days to get it as they had to wait for UK to authorise it. Please get it in black and white or they won't deal with it!

Thanks for the tip - we got $100 per person, so I would hate to lose that (ther are 4 of us going). Took me a while but I found some paperwork confirming it and have put it with our setsail passes in case we have the same problem. I hope it didn't spoil your cruise too much.

Thanks for the tip. I lost out on the 5% online booking discount because I wanted to book specific cabins that weren't showing up online. The man who took my reservation promised me OBC to compensate. I haven't had anything from RCI in the post and it doesn't show up on my online account ... I will call them tomorrow and get it in writing.

I better get something in writing from my TA. We booked 4 cabins during the WOW sale in May. I wouldn't be impressed if we didn't receive our advertised OBC.

On our last cruise we had $450 OBC from three sources, gift, fuel surchange refund, and VISA points. I had the VISA points verified by C&A. The others I took for granted they would be there. Once on board I checked our seapass account and it only showed the gift. I went to the relations desk where I learned the ship would not receive all the OBCs for several hours. Was told to check back in the morning. I did and all were there.

I'm not saying this was the problem in this case, but FYI....if you watch your spending on your stateroom television, the credit does not appear until you have spent that amount. In other words, if you have a $100 OBC, it gets credited when you have spent $100.

Not true. We have so much credit and never spend what we have, we cash out and take it home and use it for our next cruise. We never spend the amount we have and it still shows up. We call our TA and it is on the invoice as how much we have.

Was this in response to my post?

If so, I was only saying that it does not appear on your television right away. I didn't say it wasn't there. This has been my experience every time I had OBC.

Lisa, ask your TA to email or fax you RCCL's Guest Copy Booking Confirmation.

This document will clearly show if your WOW OBC has indeed been applied (listed under code MZC8). This will be your proof.

We returned home from our Brilliance cruise last weekend, we had $200 OBC .... we asked on our First day if it had been added and were told it usually appears on the 2nd day of the cruise, and sure enough on day 2 it appeared. The credit showed up on the TV on the 2nd day even though on the First night we had not spent anything!

When asking about the OBC we were told that if it wasnt there by day 3 the ship would contact RCI head office who would contact the UK and the credit would then be applied.

Hi,

The reason I have put "make sure it is in black and white" is that the Guest Relations desk asked me for written proof, after it had all been sorted they said there is nothing they can do on board without it. I waited 5 days before asking so there was no misunderstanding or delay as we had already had our fuel supplement refunded on day 3. It was probably a computer error in the UK but I spoke to a Senior Officer at Guest Relations and she said it happens to about a 100 people on every cruise and without proof they can't do anything on board as it is a head office error, even with proof it took a further 3 days for them to get authorisation from the UK and only because I made a bit of a nuisance of myself:mad:

I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else but if you have it in writing you have no worries:)

I've seen a negative balance on the TV before.

I once had to bring my laptop to Guest Services because, although I had an email from shareholder services that a $100 OBC would be on my account, it did not appear during the cruise (it can take up to three days). I hadn't printed out the email, so I just brought the computer with me. They took down the information and had it confirmed by Miami a day later.

This thread brings up an interesting point! I booked my cruise thru a major automobile club and for each cabin we booked with them, we are supposed to receive $100 OBC. This obc isn't showing up on my edocuments and she told me that it would be waiting for us when we get on board. After reading this thread, I'm going to email her and insist upon something in writing.
