Fridges in hotels?

I hope this is not too dumb a question. I was just reading a tripadvisor review of the Crowne Plaza in Seattle where we are staying. One reviewer said that the hotel offered a fridge to rent?? Are fridges not standard in hotel rooms in the US and what about Canada?

it's about 50-50......more hotels are adding them. many do not charge but some do....(at least in the US they are NOT standard but many brands have them)

if a person needs one for medical reasons though, the hotel MAY not charge....but you never know.

Oh, and those that do have a mini-fridge, you may well find fully stocked with goods for sale. There either may be no space, or has fittings shaped a certain way that many things don't fit, or has sensors that charge you if you remove stuff.

Basically, don't go expecting cool storage to be available, particularly without extra payment.
