LuckiePuris Posted September 2, 2009 #26 Share Posted September 2, 2009 I am really enjoying reading what everyone else does, it's been great :oA quick question though, what coins do the washing machines take on the Sun? I better make sure I have some on hand. Will have to get a Berocca tube as well. :D Cheers Ellen  I think they take gold coins. They also sell washing powder for a small cost. ozzy_emg Posted September 3, 2009 #27 Share Posted September 3, 2009 Just thought I would share...My husband and I have been collecting $2 coins since Feb this year and putting them in a 600ml coke bottle. Well we counted it last night as it was so full we could not fit another coin in. :) What we were really suprised at was the amount it held. We ended up with $980.00  So that is a great bonus and will go toward our spending money for our cruise. :D Cheers Ellen  Hi Ellen, Did you mean a 1.25L bottle or a 600ml bottle? I just cant imagine that much fitting in a 600ml bottle. It is such a great way to save, I am definately going to try it. Thanks

hungryhippo Posted September 7, 2009 #39 Share Posted September 7, 2009 What a great idea to save money! After reading this, I have unearthed my little money box, and have started putting all my spare coins in it. I hope I save better this way, as saving in the bank doesnt really work for me..It gets to a certain amount and I seem to find a nice pair of shoes or a nice dress and go on a shopping spree!:p

With regards the disney tickets , you may need to save a bit more these days as I am sure the 10 day base ticket start from close to about $300 per person. Not cheap (but worth it for this disneylover!!):D:D
LouLou28 Posted September 7, 2009 #41 Share Posted September 7, 2009 My sister got us doing something similar for our last cruise (that we all went on together). We bought the tins from the cheap shop (the ones you can't open without a tin opener) and we put our $5 notes into them. In about 7 months we saved up almost $1000. We have a tin-opening party a few weeks before our cruise ...the kids count all the money for us! We were amazed at how much we had saved. It's amazing how many $5 notes you get in your change (and yes, sometimes you can't affrod to save them and they have to be spent) - but if we had any left in our wallets at the end of the week in they went. (Although toward the end I was changing notes especially to get $5s to put in the tin!) We've started our next tin already (got a bigger one this time) - although I find I"m a lot more motivated if I actually have a cruise booked!!!
